Could really just say "Men" instead of NeoGAF and it would fit

There is a series of movies that is nothing but outtakes and behind the scenes stuff. It is like herding cats. There was one scene where a chick got drunk and shitted on her costars during an orgy.

Lexington Stelle told a story about him trying to break up a fight on a pornset and having to get between two dudes with hardons whilst voiding their boners. hahah

Holy crap! 300k a year? Maaaan...
Relatively few girls make that. From the stories I've heard, most girls make a lot the first few weeks but then it can easily drop to the point where it's not viable anymore. So for someone wanting to get into it, it's worth knowing that the chances of making that 300K a year are very slim.

A lot of these shoots are multiple hours of stopping and starting.

Yeah pretty much. I remember Esperanza Gomez doing an interview where she basically said as much. She also talk about how the industry is pretty harsh which is why a lot of new comers thing is going to be really easy because they were sluts/man sluts already and now they are getting pay to do so and then get the boot out because they can't take the hours it takes to shoot most of the scenes.

This is perfect.
Now I'm curious as how a male gets into porn.
Does he send the producer a demotape of his skills?

The "standard" way is:

You go to an agency, strip naked, have Polaroids taken, fill out some forms.

Wait to hear back, if you accept the scene, go to scene, if you complete scene, get paid.

If you performed well, acted professionally, on time, etc, expect more work.

If you couldn't perform (in all aspects, Cialis fixes stage fright), expect one or two more chances, if you still can't perform, considering your career over.

Actually the easiest way to get into porn as a male (it's actually very difficult "professionally", i.e with an agency/larger company), is to enter porn with a girl, a girl who will only perform male/female scenes with you.

You can also get into it via contacts, making home content, and so on too, cams are a good in for females.

It's hard work, for average money, with little job security, unless you make it big, which frankly aren't on odds that far away from making it big in any other profession.

Also, men don't get paid more for straight sex, females do, the data isn't showing male/male, which pays much more than male/female and female/female. If it isn't obvious, gang bangs and extreme fetish et al get higher rates too.

Tube sites almost destroyed the professional industry a few years ago.

Thanks for that well informed answer. You could call yourself ConceptXXX.
I'll stick to my current career choice though.

Nah man. You simply attend one of my "Saturday night parties". iPhone 6S, decent upload speed, Xhamster account, vodka and some filthy skanks. I can make you a star!

This is something I cannot understand.
As previously stated, a smaller pool of capable men, plus gay porn pays more than straight/lesbian.
Furthermore, there has been a (relatively) recent influx of Eastern European (and Ukrainian/Russian) girls willing to perform all sorts of pretty heavy duty acts for slightly less than the median pay.

I'm gonna guess more women than men wanting to get into the industry. Even if they don't stay, there's enough girls willing to replace them. I imagine the number of girls auditioning for a part is far greater than the number of guys.

Does the article go into the economics of how actually money is made in the porn industry? How many people still pay for porn, how much money do they make from doing movies/scenes vs strip club appearances or webcams or whatever else?

It seems like one of those industries where the supply far, far exceeds the demand so I wonder how the average person in the industry fares, money wise.

In my mind its always been weird the line between porn and prostitution. Like if I put up a craigslist ad saying "looking for a girl to bang, paying $500" thats illegal. But if I add the line "will use condom and film and distribute, you get nothing I keep all the money I make but I pay you $500" thats legal?

What about janitor who has to clean up the set?

That just reminds be that Arthur geis (yes that one) has a good story about when he was younger and worked an adult video store that had viewing booths in the back and that people did nasty shit back there and that the janitor, deservedly, made more money than the other staff.

I actually think porn with a story is dumb and annoying. I'm watching porn to see people fuck, not have them awkwardly deliver utterly cringeworthy lines while dressed in lo-fi theatre costumes.

Joymii/X-Art/Explicite Art/PassionHD/AbbyWinters/etc. style videos where beautiful people just fuck with no lameshit 'exposition' are my faves.

I feel like you'd have some pretty interesting stories to tell.

For the preformer the prices are good, considering porn as it stands is more publicity and getting yourself out there. Most, at least in the US and Europe, are making their money from webcams, free gifts, an escorting.

Director making quite a bit. It's usually them drilling the women. I believe they film in their homes too, then sell for profit. Seem to be the real earners here.

One of the few industries where the younger you are, the more you're worth. A 28 y/o female porn actress with 10 years of porn experience is worth less than her 18 year old self with no experience. Fresh girls are more valuable than experienced ones in porn, unless you're Lisa Anne or one of the other select few MILF porn actresses

The similarities between Porn and Hollywood are a mile long

Plus Amazon

I wonder if they file taxes on any of that?

I know one cam girl who use to claim her rent as expenses.... Her house cost over 1k a month. She was making 80k a year.

You would think more guys want to get into it than girls given alot of guys are actually the ones that watch porn.

What about the poor poor soul who has to clean up the set after the fucking & jizzing & squirting & possible scatting? Not sure that is worth any amount of money.
