Wonder how many fake goals the umpires give away for interchange infringements on the geelong bench now.

Geelong's an amazing team. Superb team effort five years on.

But so are Collingwood. They'll be back right up there next year. No doubt about that.

Can they keep it up next year year? I thought they were gone at the end of last season though
 
I believe Geelong have the best winning percentage of all the great teams, truly one of the best teams ever. I wonder how comfortable the cash Gary Ablett sleeps on is tonight

Nah, I reckon this is the end of the era. They'll still be a good side but I just can't see them dominating.

If I say it at the end of every year I'll be right eventually.
 
In context - Geelong 07-11 is probably right up there now with the 1980s Hawks (83/6/8/9, and 3 losing GFs).

It will be a long time til we see another side this good.

Everyone said that after the Lions won 3 in a row, but along came Geelong. There'll be another dominant team in 5-6 years

They both played in 4 GFs, Brisbane did it all in a row and Geelong did it over five years. and they both won 3/4.

I still rate Brisbane just a touch ahead. Just winning three in a row is amazing. I think this Geelong side shows that even more - as absolutely amazing as they are, they haven't won back to back yet.

Geelong flag in 2013 confirmed.

Nah fair enough. Both have played in 4 GFs, won 3, but Geelong have kept coming back over an extra year. :P

Marginal in any case.

I dont think theyll drop off quick either. Lots of players are young and very strong players. Depends who retires I guess.

Yeah, we'll see. As of next year, 9 players in this team will be over 30.

They have to drop off eventually.
 
The one thing I personally think that gives the edge to geelong is their winning %. GFs are just one match. Albeit a big game, consistent wins all the time is key. Theyve lost something like only a dozen games in 5 years.

Yeah it's more than a little sour and it wouldn't surprise me if it bites them in the arse. I hope Malthouse takes a year off and then moves on to another team. I'm sure any other side would love his services for another 5-10 years if he is willing.

He may have coached the team that I am supposed to hate no matter what, but I still respect him for what he was able to do for West Coast back in the 90s.
 
Cleaned up. I put $50 on Geelong to win and $15 on Bartel for Norm Smith. $189 is now mine! What a great game that fizzled out in the end.

Carn the Eagles next year!
 
Malthouse will coach again. Todays loss just feeds into the hunger and passion even more. Expect him to coach in 2013 - You can count on it!
 
He's only 58 and hasn't been able to coach a side that absolutely dominates grand finals. The teams that he has taken through the years were top tier but not to the point where they were the absolutes.

I imagine there is a lot of hunger still there within him that wants to take a team and create an undeniable legacy of greatness. I'd kill for him to take the reins of Carlton simply to see the team turn around their chances rather than constantly squander, but it wouldn't surprise me if St Kilda or Richmond are whispering in his ears currently.
 
Give him a 10 year contract and the Tigers would turn it around. They've already got an excellent goal scorer.

Just remember Collingwood were mid-bottom tier before he took over. Even then he had to suffer a few lean years in between and still managed to turn them in to what they are today.
 
Fuck me, that was intense. The only things that really soured it were that both Pods and Menzel couldn't give the GF a good crack. Oh, and the shitful umpiring. Glad it didn't cost us. Good to see Stevie J. have some impact, too.

Heading into the city (of Geelong) tonight. Little excited, more scared for my safety, though. Sure as shit not getting on the piss.

Did anyone else think that Pods going off actually threw the Collingwood strategy off a bit? It was like they knew to focus on holding him back but once he was gone, they had no idea what to do.

Well done Geelong. Absolutely wrapped with the result. I thought Collingwood has us beat with how well they were playing into the 3rd. I really couldn't see who was willing to step up and win the game for us. I was in raptures when Hawkins imposed himself on the game.

Reminded me of the '09 GF where we just willed ourselves to a win. Gutsy, hard fought footy.

The only things that really soured it were that both Pods and Menzel couldn't give the GF a good crack.

My disappointment was seeing Milburn and Mooney miss out. Was hoping they'd get the send off they deserved, being champions of our club.

They seemed to get credit when it was possible to be given. Stokes had really big things to say about Mooney both before and after the GF.
 
Hmm, just realised that every team I preferred winning lost...

St Kilda, Sydney, West Coast and then Collingwood. A jinx I am.
 
Way late to the party - its been a hell of a weekend - but well done to Geelong. I still think Brisbane are the marginally better team when it comes to 'best AFL team ever', but Geelong are phenomenal.
