the gameplay is trash but the game does have some really good environments and atmosphere. some really cool and unique stuff. if the gameplay was good honestly it would be a pretty dope game

who the fuck else would censor it? this is just PR/marketing bullshit because neither the ESRB nor PEGI have any control over whether a game gets published. they are just guidelines and if you want their rating you follow their guidelines. nothing is stopping anyone from releasing a game without their blessing.
claming that your game is so hardcore it had to have some content removed is obviously working because so many people here are amped to buy it now because of the "controversy".
they were not censored. censorship implies either government or a controlling platform (like valve's steam) demanding change. neither of that happened here.

Our goal is for each person that already owns Agony on Steam to be able to buy Agony Unrated with the biggest discount possible on that platform – 99% – or release it as a free DLC. We are currently talking with the Steam representatives to make sure it is doable.
Agony Unrated will be released about three months from now and it will include all the updates from the standard version of the game.
Agony Unrated also brings:
· Additional sounds in the game and the cutscenes.
· Additional erotic animations for characters in the backgrounds.
· High resolution textures and models – without any censorship.
· All the scenes that have been removed from the standard version of Agony.
· Agony Mode unlocked from the beginning.

Regarding the Xbox One patch - we have managed to find and fix the bug that was present on the Xbox One X console. We have sent the improved update to our publisher, who will pass it to the Microsoft today or tomorrow and we are expecting it to be approved in the next couple of days.
PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC will get another patch this week. It will introduce many fixes and a highly refined lighting system.

i mean no. not really. in fact the atmosphere and the 'shock' is probably the best things about it since it really set it apart. the gameplay was clearly the worst part. if the gameplay had just been slightly better with no 'shock' it was have been an even worse game. not only bad gameplay but bland atmosphere as well. you really dont think about these things do you

Except it's not like that and this case has nothing to do with free speech.
No one forced this studio to do anything. They were just told to cut content if they wanted to avoid an AO rating and they thought they could do so and then just update the game later with the cut content. Which is obviously not ok in the same way that the creators of the Venom movie can't just submit a PG13 cut of the movie for rating but then send theaters an R rated version.
There were literally no legal limitations that prevented the studio from selling the uncut version independently on their website. But they wanted the game to release on Steam (which back then had other policies) and consoles (which by default don't allow AO games) so they needed to adapt, just like every single company doing a product. Or do you think companies in other industries can just produce whatever they want and then legally demand Walmart/Best Buy/Home Depot/etc sell it in all of their stores?
