Aion: The Tower Of Eternity

I care about the male armor! =( I'm going to be the only male character in our Legion, I just know it. :lol

BTW, the Legion name in the Beta (server is...Zizol or something with a Z) is SoD. So, if you want in next beta go around.

In retail, maybe we'll name it simply GAF or keep the SoD moniker for another game (SoD was the GAF FFXI linkshell).

What does SoD stand for?

Also, make sure we all check in on release, so we can determine the official GAF server (Or are they keeping the same names? Whatever). I'd love to have both RL and 'net friends on the same server. In the beta, though, I'm on...the one that begins with an I. Or Siel. Don't remember.

Anyone playing (the beta) on a machine that is closer to the minimum requirements, and if so, how does Aion run and look? I am really interested in Aion, but I am unsure of how well it will run on my laptop.

SoD stands for Stars of Destiny. At the time at US FFXI launch, we couldn't decide on a name. So, Shouta, being the Suikoden fan, just went with that.

The real challeneg in MMOs like this (with sides) is picking an official GAF side. The folks in the beta pretty much love being Asmodian so, we're going with that methinks. I'm not a fan of the more lighter side and after reading the lore, I dig Asmodians more. :D Plus I look freakin' BOSS with a sword and board with claws.

What sever will the GAF legion be on?

I'm currently playing on a HP HDX 18t and it runs very smooth at 720p (45-60 FPS)
If I change everything to the lowest setting it runs above 120 FPS.

My impressions of Aion so far are positive. I played Lineage II for 3 years and while some elements of the game feel like L2 its definitely not the bad elements.
While there is a slight grindy feeling to some of the quest it's not as bad as L2. In L2 you were tasked to kill 50 to 100 mobs on some starter quest. In Aion the most I've had to kill was 15. ( Some mobs do not always drop quest items)
The class balance feels light years ahead of the L2 archers vs nuker fest. Gladiators in Aion are Destroyers, Warlords and Gladiators of L2 rolled into one class; which is great!
Archers seem a little underpowered at lower levels but will probably be beast at higher levels. =)
I love the flying/gliding aspect and the world is beautifully modeled. However some ground and foliage textures are really ugly away from the city. (Nothing really lost)

I have nothing on PVP as I did not make it a priority to check out.

New to the thread, but I heard about this game from a friend i made from WOW, Played wow for the better part of 2 years. A big group of us just got tired of it. Seemed boring and nothing seemed worth it. Putting time into raids and getting great progression to get the gear didn't seem the same with them handing it out (badge turnins for tier). So we kinda stopped playin it for a while.

This led to many long talks on vent, We decided to all try something new out and this game came up. So i picked up a pre order along with a few friends and gave it ago last weekend. I was personally blown away by the graphics. I think the main part of the game that grabbed me was how polished the game was. I played a few other MMO's to give them a go, but this one seemed to have alot of things on the right track.

The combat system seems really nice, i love the Chains and such. Kinda brings more fun to combat and i can't wait to pvp(didnt' like it too much in wow). I ran out of time on the beta and couldn't get the wings, next weekend for sure, so i can't comment on the flight.

I love LOVE storys of games, wow had a good story and that is one of the reasons i played it. Aions story seems fresh and new, I just want to learn more about it.

Does anyone know any sites that can help fill my need of info on this game!? tryed a few but they don't have much!

Cant wait for this to come out!

Jesus, that's a lot more than I had expected. And it's permanent?

I'm not quite sure but I think it only works for early release aka few days you have before it hits the stores. Or something like that. Gonna check on that now and post back.

Now that I think about it... while this game looks great, it's really just going to tide me over until I see more of NCSoft's Blade and Soul.

That game looks even more gorgeous, and it looks like the gameplay is more dynamic as well.

There's another MMO with more dynamic style of combat as well that was shown not long ago... didn't look as good as Blade and Soul, but showed more gameplay... wonder what that one was called.

Haven't seen much of Blade and Soul but from what I've read, there's high possibility that that game won't be coming out next year

Both Blade&Sould and Terra Online are on my watch list. Especially Terra.

God what I would do for another high production open PvP nonfactioned MMO. L2 grew into an unmanageable beast, but in the beginning it was amazing.

Player driven content in the form of hate, PKing and dungeon whoring. It was great.

So how are those items being distributed? Do you get only 1 of each and do you have to transfer it if you want it to be on another character, or will every character automatically get it upon creation with a char-bind?

I hate you all!

Watching those videos make me pre-order this game.

See you in game :)

?????

You have common items and unique, epic and heroic stuff. Some are soul bind and some are not. So everyone can get them.

I meant the pre-order bonus items; the ring, wings etc.

3) Combat is neat. At least to me. Sort of a mix between WoW and Conan? Can't recall which other MMO used a combo system. There's the usual auto attacking, but then some of the abilities will lead into each other to combos with different effects. More abilities are acquired through leveling which can add to the combos or create different ones.
Dark Age of Camelot

So on the topic of combos, anyone here familiar with Cabal Online's combo system? It was a total new experience for me. A combo was basically a skill, performing a combo would increase all of your skills' power and casting speed, but you had to time them perfectly, or the combo would fail. After 8 or so succesfull strikes you had to time it perfectly in like 0.1 seconds, it was really hard to do.
The only thing I hated about this was that only the cast time of skills got increased in speed, the cooldown was still the same. I had to alter my skill sets a lot just to get a perfect DPS combo set.

So: Zikel server and Asmodian race?

Thinking of pre-ordering this to get in on some beta action...bastards!

Played the last beta. It was fun. I'm down for a GAF guild (or whatever they call them in Aion). Who's going to organize it? Seems like there is mounting interest here. We should make one for the next beta period!

So how user friendly easy is this game? Similar to WoW? My wife would love this game just on how it looks alone but shes not a hardcore gamer so some games can be a bit much for her.... she could handle WoW though.

it's pretty user friendly. most of the quests have the ability to locate the targets on the map, and you get more than enough XP to solo it. you can also party up and take on tougher monsters and such.

there's not really a skill tree, so it's just a matter of buying your new skills from your proper class trainer, and then equipping them.

if she could handle WoW, she'd be able to handle this easily.

There's one up on Zikel on the Asmodian side. The beta toons carry over until the last beta so our Legion should still be active. Can PM here on GAF whenever you're in for an invite. I dunno Velion's GAF name, but he got me hooked on Aion and made the Legion/Guild.

So I see the min specs listed, and I've read a couple threads on AionSource about systems people are running this on, but I'm curious if anyone is running this on a MacBook Pro or similar system?

2.4GHz Dual-Core Intel
2GB of 667MHz DDR2 RAM
Nvidia 8600M GT Video Card

Anyone running something like that that could speak to how the game runs? I'm positive I can run the game, but I'm curious if it will be playable for fast action sequences like PvP or city travel.

Any incite would be greatly appreciated.

I'm probably gonna run down the street and pick up a 4GB RAM kit as I can only imagine that this game is a RAM hog like all MMOs.

Edit: I did pre-order the game so I'll be in the next beta, fellow SoD'ers from FFXI :D

It's WoW with wings and prettier areas. Oh, and less lore.

So it's not one constant beta, they have like mini-sessions setup where you can play during a set time period and that time period has a theme?

It looks like there is no beta to be had at the moment.

That is correct. They seem to open the servers up every other weekend. This past weekend was the most recent, so this coming weekend, the servers will be down. They add some new stuff each weekend, increase the level cap, etc. It's neat.

Does anyone know for sure whether or not beta characters are carrying over? I'd guess not, but you never know.

Like to the live servers? There's no way they'd allow that.

If you mean from one beta to the next, I assume it all depends on what level content they want to test.

So I finally finished downloading and installing the thing, and when the game boots up and I attempt to log in I get greeted with the message:

That account does not have access to Aion...or something like that.

Is this because the beta isn't currently going on right now, or some other account issue? I was hoping that I could at least play around with the character creator during the offtime :(
