Where is Everquest on that chart or their website?
 
Is there a specific server that gaffers are choosing? Perhaps a Gaf guild aswell, or will that be something more focused on with the actual release?

I purchased the CE last night so I'm looking to start testing on this weekends event (starting today at 3PM EST). I'd love to join fellow Aion Gaf members if possible. Sorry if this information has already been posted and I failed to find it. I did search, I even checked in the online/matchup with no luck. :(

That's what happens when your servers get taken down in a big area that thrives on grindfest MMOs. They immediately flock to another one.

The government is trying to stifle foreign MMOs to give a boost to Chinese-made MMOs.

They also banned WotLK for having the undead in it (even after Blizzard removed the Death Knight and put meat on skeletons).

Correct. The closed beta though; and I think this is either the last closed event or the second last before the open beta. The open beta anyone will be able to join. Other than that, the only other way to get into a closed event is to get a key code from a website that might be giving away closed beta codes through a contest or registration process or something like that. I believe only one site has done this though and I haven't seen or heard of any others doing it. This was also a few weeks ago.
 
Okay. Since NC Soft are being douches this beta go around, there's a bit of a change in plans for US GAF on the Asmodian side.

Our server last time out was Zikel. We had a Legion there and everything. Since then, there's been a surge of people looking to play and since toons and legions carried over, we assumed Zikel will be open again.

Not so much. NC Soft is opening two new servers this time out and locking out new character creations on the other servers for a set amount of time. They think that after Comic Con, a big surge of people will be hopping on (when two servers were completely dead last beta weekend and all servers populations were "low" by the middle of Saturday). How long is the lock out? We don't know.

However, for those looking to start new characters (including people from previous beta since everything is voiced now and the starting prologue cutscenes are in now), we will be forming on the Vaizel server.

Repeat, Vaizel.

We'll try to get a Legion up ASAP. I'll post who you can send a whisper to for an invite when we get in and get our names settled.

As far as I know, you can only create characters on the 2 new servers in the beginning of this event. Ereshkigal and Beritra for EU and Vaizel and Triniel for US. They're going to allow new characters on the others a bit later afaik.

Wow, the Steam version is a fucking joke. I wait until now to start up the NCSoft Launcher from Steam, thinking that Steam had any updating taken care of. Now what do I get? A fucking ~500MB update. And the NCSoft Updater isn't much better, that's not even connecting to the download server. So this is a great start for me.

Oh well, found a Mirror that seems to be working well on the AionSource.com forums.
 
I'm wondering something and I'm hoping you guys who are in the beta can answer me :)

Is Aion more PvP-centric or PvE-centric? Or is there a good balance between the two?

I'm asking because I really don't like PvP-centric games. I love PvE though, and a good balance between the two I can handle since I can just ignore PvP. But if the PvE content sucks, there's no way I'll play it for a long period of time, unless the PvP is REALLY stellar.

A good example of a PvP-centric MMO is Warhammer Online. All the progression in that game was more or less PvP-centric and the PvE content was rather bad - little to no dungeons, crappy quests, etc.

I realize it's a Korean MMO, which means it'll probably be pretty grindy, but still.

I'd say it's PvE centric from 1-40, and then PvP centric from 40-50.

Sorta like how WAR was supposed to be. :) I guess it's not a huge deal if it's PvP centric from high on up, but are those "raids" I see more like WAR's idea of raids (keep raids and city raids, where it's a bunch of nobodies working together to capture a city with other players in it) or actual PvE raids?

I'm so on the fence about these types of games.. There's usually a ton of griefing and it just kills any sort of enjoyment I might have. I have horrible flashbacks of trying to level a little Warlock in a PvP server in WoW and just getting continually ganked by level 60s, or idiots who thought world pvp was fun and were coming to kill quest givers and such. I really found that idiotic.

Or in AoC, where, you know, you could get ganked during a cutscene...
 
there is a HUGE SWARM OF PEOPLE over on Valziel (I think?) right now, it's awesome, haven't seen so many since WoW beta. If anyone wants to give it a whirl (it's a new server, and only one of 2 that allows for new character creation atm), I'm Maltheism on the Asmodian side, feel free to say hi, maybe we could get a guild going or somethin.
 
Hey. Need some help. A friend gave me, what he told me, was an Aion CE code. Now when I added it to my NCSoft Master account, it came up as Beta. I'm assuming its only that because the game is currently in Beta. I just was curious if anyone knows if my friend was telling the truth or if he just gave me some beta code that will expire. Or is this how everyone elses account is even though they preordered.

Does anyone know how to change the Windowed size?

The options black out if you choose this setting, and then when the game opens in windowed mode it is a very small window, something like 800x600 would be my guess, impossible to play on it tho.

I just want to have a bigger game window but not in full mode since I want to multi-task while I play and alt+tab won't cut it.

I think it should be system.cfg the file to modify, however everything on it appears with weird characters, and not even numbers, example:

The game is on beta right now, unless you are corean or chinese.

That's how it appears for everyone and your character will die at the end of the beta.

It's only a Beta code right now, you'll get the full game code on release.
 
Ended up not preordering due to some real-life stuff stealing any time I'd have to play. Now I'm debating getting it or not. Decisions, decisions... ARGH!

...My friend bought a CE account. Didn't want it. And gave me this code. I am asking if the account will automatically be upgraded to a full account upon release or will I have to get the actual code to upgrade it from a beta one from my friend.

You'll get the actual code on release. Otherwise people would be pre-ordering and then cancelling to get free access.

Ok thanks, so basically I just have a beta account and when the game comes out, I'll have to get the full game code from a friend to play it after the beta.

My friend just told me, that he pre-ordered it from NCSoft and that the email on the Master Account will be sent the full game code upon release. So I guess We'll see. Can't wait to get back into the beta.
 
WTF ? We agreed with some friends to meet on the start place after we created our asmodian charcaters. And.... we can't see each other although we're on the same servers and at the same place. What the hell...

..anybody knowing what those "channel" things are ? I am on Channel 2, my first friends on channel 3 and the second one on channel 6. And we can't see each other's character. We can communicate though :'(

I just resized it by dragging the window edges like a normal window. Don't think you can select a set resolution for it, though.

Menu (little arrow thingy between your action bars and flight icon) -> Support -> Change Channel, and select the same one, you should see each other then.

Created my guys on Vaizel, ran around, then got disconnected. Sever is going through massive lag right now

You guys are going Asmodian, right?
 
Right now, Vaizel is the server, Asmodian is the side. Game is laggy right now, but changing channels helped (phasing or whatever it does). We're getting the Legion set up. Can send a whisper to Kara or Darsh (me) in a bit. BTW, when you group up, make sure the entire group is on the same channel.

Ah, my fellow MMO freak: How's the game? As good as WoW? Better? Worse? Be honest with me. I'll take your word for it.

I have to honest, I'm not going to compare it to WoW. I will say that it's the Eastern take on WoW. It has many elements of WoW, with some from Warhammer (RvR, PvPvE later in the game) with its own thing going on. If you enjoy the Eastern style of art with some unique takes on familiar ideas, rock on. That's the general jist. I fall into that, so I enjoy it.

I'm not going to say its better or worse than WoW since I'm not qualified to make that statement.

Awesome. I'm downloading the beta client now, torrenting it, so it should take another 8-10 more hours.
 
I had the sam problem as Kenka at the beginning, I was on channel 1 and my gf was on ch4, it took me a bit to find out why could we talk but not see each other.

Server and Channel distribtion is sorta like PSO/U. I'm just used to FFXI, SWG and RO where everyone was in just the same place if the same server was chosen.

I'm a veteran RO, SWG and FFXI player. I've nver liked WoW, I played the beta and hated it, as many FFXI players would concur.

So now after playing Aion, I can't give you any comparisions with WoW, but I can tell you that the game is very easy to control, chats get a little bit to get used, I still forgot to press Enter before chatting so I end up opening lots of windows and jumping before releasing that I forgot to press Enter.

Point and click works just fine, and better than some other games imo. he quick action bar (numeric bar) is very nice for quick actions like attacking and using your skills. I haven't gotten around to use any macros yet, and will probably pass from using them until the game is released, I'm playing Warrior and will go Gladiator, so I'm not in need of using them right now, but for what I've read in some boards, they are basic enough, there could be much deeper uses, but so far I think the macro system is on FFXI level.

The fun factor is really high, well I don't know, I guess this comes differently to everybody, but I'll be happy playing it during the following months and keep playing it unless SW:TOR comes out much better than this one, but right now I'm very hyped for Aion.

Btw, a tip for everyone: If you preorder the game from Amazon, Play.com, or any other website in the US or EU, you will receive the pre-order beta key from almost any site, I got like 5 of them and alreayd gave them all around to some friends and co-workers, I just canceled the pre-orders after receiving the codes.

Oh, I don't think if you make the pre-order today you will receive the code quick enough for this beta weekend. I did all this about 10 days ago, and just got my codes yesterday, so most likely, if you pre-order the game today, you will get them before the last beta weekend.
