You can't play an Assassin until level 9 because you don't get to choose to become an Assassin until level 10. You played a Scout and 1-9 is nothing. It's just a simple introduction to the world of Aion.

There will be tons of 6-man party "raids" / dungeons / instances.
However, PvP is the major focus of Aion, as it should be.

Well, this sucks. I had decided I was going to play a Chanter quite a while ago, but now I dont think I do, I've been playing my Druid in WoW for the past couple weeks as something to do while I wait for Aion, but I'm bored of playing my Druid, and the Chanter seems like such a similar class in terms of play style.

So what do I do? Ive got a few other classes I wouldnt mind playing, but which to pick? I like Ranger classes, and this one seems pretty good, I'm leaning twards this currently, but how are they in groups? Rangers in any game arent really sought after, but if I can be of use through damage or fill some other niche that would be nice, do rangers have any special skills that are good for groups? Another class I'm looking at is Templar, I used to play a Paladin in DAoC, and this class seems very similar, I'm just not sure I want to play another Melee class in a PvP game, especialy one with people flying all over the place. The Cleric is probably the only other class I would want to play, but I dont think I want to be a main healer anytime soon.


Too long didn't read version:

- Ranger; Wanted in groups? any group skills at all?
- Templar; Good in PvP? Being Melee only doesnt screw you over when everyone can fly?
 
Are they extending the open beta a few days?? why am i downloading a 618 MB patch this morning if it's the last few hours of OB? (EURO)

Well looks like the beta is over,I get a can't launch the game after the patch heh...anyway,I liked what I saw in the OP but I can't dedicate enough time to another MMO for now,I only reached level 9 with a Mage in the OP,and as far as solo'ing goes,I was feeling the grind already...with a nice guild and all though,I think it should do fairly well...the game is very well done,plays well and probably looks great on a high end PC,I was surprised I can run this on my 4 year old rig,no AA and the like and at 1024x768,I was getting good Frames per second and looked ok.

True, but with the stealth and all it felt assassin like. I know most classes don't come to their own till the higher lvls, but i just wanted an early taste of 3 classes to choose one for retail. No point in spending all that time to 20+ if it's gonna get wiped anyway.

Ranger: One of the best PVP classes. Absolutely insane burst. Typically, Sorc. does not want to fight a Ranger, its one of their tough matchups.

PVE: Burst does not equal good, consistent dps. They are typically not sought after too much. Play with friends for PVE imo if your going to go Ranger. I am sure they will balance it out though. They do have traps and sleep arrow for crowd control, but a Sorc. can do the same, but provide higher overall dps.

Templar: PVP is actually pretty interesting. Your goal is to grab their healer (or whatever the biggest threat is) and pull it into the melee group so that you can all destroy it. But thats about it.

To sum up Templar in PVP, its a lot like a wall of text. Annoying, and typically ignored.

I don't think even NC Soft knows yet. We'll find out at launch. We were supposed to get them on the 20th, but not anymore. Sucks ass. Getting out of the starting area faster is worth the preorder alone.
 
Speaking of pre-order, my friend asked me a question earlier that I had no idea how to answer.

Regarding early access on the 20th, how will that work? I know they gave you the pre-order key, but it still seems like you need to enter your CD key in order to activate your account fully. So how will that work for people who pre-ordered at Gamestop for instance, since they won't have their CD key till 21-22?

I'd assume you just play off your pre order key, and then once you get your box you have to input your CD key within a certain amount of time after launch otherwise the game would lock you out until you enter the key.
 
Are you guys playing right now still? i repaired the patch,since i was getting a "fail to launch" error since this morning and now it says my ID and password dont match but i can log into my account just fine...I even changed my password,which works but I can't connec in the game...
 
I logged in like an hour ago and ran around for a sec. Can't bring myself to do any more quests if we're getting wiped at midnight here. :lol

Same. Had some fun in open beta, enough so to get me to buy the game. Now I just wanna start fresh with a character I can keep :lol
 
Don't know what was going on but I was finally able to log back in...looks like i'll be able to do my "Ascension" quest at least and reach level 10 ;)

Same here. I got to the point where I feel I have a good idea of how the Chanter plays, so I don't really feel like going further before launch.

Is it possible for my shitty Dell Inpsiron 1525 to runs this at low settings? Getting bored of WoW and thinking of switching over to this.

You can do it just as well, if not better, as a Ranger or Sorcerer.

The ONLY advantage Sins get is Hide (II). We get 1 attack from behind (big whoop) and get to run away / re-Hide after the gank.

Right. Sins are the best at it.

Anyway, I think I'm rolling chanter instead of Cleric. I know Cleric would be more useful in the long run, but I had more fun with the Chanter class. Now, to decide a server...
 
Im getting some weird rubberbanding lag, anyone have any insight as to why this is happening to me?

its a brand new PC, pretty high end, im running wireless N, and none of the other PCs in the house are on. this PC is running the game, and thats it, no steam, no itunes, hell even firefox was closed before this.

Driving me bonkers!

And this is the reason I am still hesitating about getting the game,even if I loved the open beta..I realise that if you are in a PvP area,you have to expect this kind of thing but i can't stand it if i'm doing a quest or if i'm down to half health after a NPC fight and get attacked by a "ganker" right after.

Not sure about the specs of your machine but my PC is like 4 years old,I dont even have 2 gig of ram(1.75),a 7950 on a P4 3.00ghz and it ran well enough,playable,at 1024x768,with no AA and the like...
 
anyone know if this game supports 5.1 sound? I pluged my computer into my receiver to display from my TV, but the receiver didn't show any sort of dolby digital support or whatever... had to use Dolby PLII and even then it wasn't true 5.1.

GAF - After playing the Beta I've decided to jump on the bandwagon. I'd like to be in the American GAF guild. Who is the leader of this operation? :)
 
I've got to figure out if I'm really wanting to play this anymore. I like the ideas they've got going on, but a lot of little things bug me. Especially coming over from WoW where things have just become so polished over time. Yeah, it's not fair to Aion, but that's the way it is.

Velion is the leader I believe, I will add you to the list. Starting Friday when preselect begins I will have a list of Character names that way everyone can get their friend list situated. For those still asking we will be on the Vaziel server. I fully understand if there are people that want to go to a different server due to time zone restrictions either way we will have a very good group to play with on Vaziel. Also please remember that the intial limit for the Legion is 30 members until we can raise the 120k Kinah to up the limit to 60. Also if it is ok with the EU Legion we would like to use the same Legion Symbol as you guys. Once we get thing rolling we will post the information in the Online forum also this Legion will be open not just to Neogaf member but also to friends and people in the Vaziel Community as space allows. I look forward to seeing everyone in game!

Seems to be like that for every MMO I've tried since WoW. Lot of things I hate about WoW and I've subbed on and off of WoW since it's launch even till today, yet any MMO I try just is never as polished as WoW.

I would say that EQ2 is just as polished...both games came out around the same time, and both have their pluses and minuses.
