Aion: The Tower Of Eternity

Marchutan has been a bit unstable (went down a couple of times) but no queue as of yet compared to many of the other servers. Today will be the real test though. Game has been pretty easy so far even as a cleric, although I've begun to hit a wall at 18 in terms of soloing and it seems that grouping will be needed to tackle the Tursin campaigns and quests. We tried 3-manning it with a Gladiator, Chanter and Cleric but those mobs are tough, and we can't deal with adds at all. Waiting for the others in my legion to catch up so we can get a party of 5-6 to go through the place.

I guess I'm a bit of an "old school" because I prefer the grinding of xp over the easy quest-based ones. Too bad everyone copies off of WoW's formula, but at least Aion's implementation has been even more streamlined. Can't wait to see what the group content is like.

It's kinda lonely playing by myself on Nezekan. Are there any Oceanic legions that'd want a Scout/Assassin? There seems to be a lot but that may just be me looking out. Oh well, if anyone wants me, send an invite to Tyveri.

For a Cleric it should be easier to get a group for the Tursin missions, however if for any reason you can't get one group, go all the way south to the Holy Ground of Miraju which is the place for soloing at 17-20.

Thanks for the tip but I've actually already done all of the quests in Ardus Shrine which got me 1/3 into 18. Those spirits hit really hard though so I'm not going to grind on those mobs. I think I'll head out to the Observatory and see if I can get to 19 after work. As for the Tursin stuff, I'd rather wait for my Legion to catch up. Most of us are ex-FFXI players so partying wouldn't be much of a problem for us and I think we could clear the place up pretty easily. I know the grouping for Aion is fairly casual but I'd rather not take my chances with pubs =P

I'm surprised how quickly the leveling is going so far. I made it up to 16 yesterday, seems like it usually takes me quite a bit longer in most MMOs. The quests have been pretty trivial solo so far with a couple exceptions, sounds like it's going to be a bit more difficult soon.

I get you. I had a random group of 5 there, (Templar, Chanter, Priest, Sorcerer and Gladiator) and we just failed because the Templar wanted to pull and didn't know how, the Sorcerer had a hard time trying to figure out how to do some crowd control or they would just aggro anything and everything.

I was in a nother one with 4 ppl (Cht, Src, Sin, Gld), with not real tank, but kinda like a TP burn sharing all hate and we did surprisingly well, way better than with the other party, so it's all down to the people and not to the group set up.

When I hit 20 or so, I noticed that the exp tnl was of 1M or so, and I said shit, however after a while of killing mobs and doing quests, I saw how all the exp is rather well scaled up, so although it did take a little more time to get the next level, it didn't really felt as it was too much as one would think after seeing 1M.

Would you say grouping becomes more emphasized as you get to higher levels or is it still geared towards soloing?

Seemed pretty stable for a launch day. I wasn't expecting to play much, but after a 40 minute queue on Lumiel after work I was in and didn't have any lag all night. My progress has definitely slowed though, the mobs are starting to take quite a bit more effort to kill solo and I received my first group quests. So far everyone in my legion is going off on their own so I may have to submit myself to some pugs soon.

The exp is about 30% (or maybe a little higher) better in groups so obviously that's the fast way if you have a good SP. However there is always alternatives to solo, and as far as you aren't a Priest, I think you can solo all the way. Priest would have to kill 1 or 2 lower level mobs so I guess would take loner that way.

Setting up shop now so I can go to work...

My buddies and I got our guild up and running. If you are on Marchutan and need a home, whisper Andal, Quix or just about anyone else in Betrayal and we'll hook you up with an invite. Most of us are high playtime and come from WoW with about 4 years of heavy raiding invested. Tomorrow we're upgrading to Legion Rank 2, so we have plenty of room.

must be you I have been lag free with no disconnects since day one headstart

Its not just me, I've seen a few reports of people and hell half of my friends guild was saying they were getting weird lag the same time I was. I know its this game, I can run WoW and WAR at the same time with no lag, but this game effects me for some reason.

The servers are pretty packed though, I dont lag during the day, but come 6pm and boom it starts getting worse and worse.

I wish I could hardwire my PC, I'm sure it would help, but I wish this game could run a little better over wifi.

Back up again. I have a 30min queue on Spatalos :/

Is there an option to transfer a character to another server?

Oh great. 4 hours+ wait tonight it is.

I guess I'll watch the mancs match and after that the Madrid match before being able to log on.

Yeah, I was bored. Not an AFK store, I was actually selling some pretty decent items.

Their web features are pretty extensive. I just found out you can even check your ingame mail and auctions online.

http://uk.aiononline.com/

The above link is just their main EU site. Just login with your game account and setup your main character from the menu. You can do all sorts of other things too, like leave comments on character pages or check your friends list/legion online.

Good stuff!

So what do you do when you hit 17/18. Quests are really starting to dry up, and I only have one major campaign to finish. I'm anticipating having to grind, but I'm more than willing to hear differently. :)

Think I shall pick this up tomorrow. Go trade in ODSAT for what I paid for it and buy this.
Feel kinda stupid now as ive been off work sick all week and I could have played through the head start but I was being cautious.

Hows the class balance? Im thinking ill stick to Sorc like in OB but some kind of tank might be fun..:D

If you don't want to do the group quests (or can't get groups to do them) just grind until 20 and then move into the next region.

Does anyone know if it's possible to map the camera to the keyboard?

You actually named the store "I'm in a tent store"?

When you had the option of "Loitering within tent"?

Missed opportunity!

How are people finding the game now it's live? Been looking for a WoW replacement but having been dissapointed by Conan AND Warhammer I'm a bit more cautious to jump in without a free trial of some sort (missed the Beta as I was away from home for a while).

Love the game but I get random crashes on every major town load. Its not every single time but its a 50/50 chance to crash and its a full freeze have to restart can't alt delete out. My computer isnt the greatest but its not bad either corei7 920, 6gb ddr 3, 4850hd vista 64. I get good performance from the game but its a full on crash every time I fly or rez froma death.

5 crashes this morning just trying to load into the ice fortress :(

Love the game, and will love it even more once I can find a solution to this. Gonna go update drivers and see if that helps at all.

I want to play this with my girlfriend, but her computer is pretty weak. It's a two year old Dell XPS laptop, and it can barely run Age of Conan as it is.

Should we try it out?

Yea this runs great, I was able to run it on a 2.4 single core with 2 gbs of mem and the 4850.

I've had the same problems playing on Vista 32. Lots and lots of crashes. There is one workaround and one solution:
The Workaround: Set your texture level to lowest whenever you enter a town or a fortress.
The Solution: Upgrade to SP2 and reinstall the game. Worked perfectly!

It's the best MMO I've played other than WoW.

WoW has gotten quite stale for me now, so I'm liking this more. Levels are well paced so far (17-18). The quests are fairly generic, but they're fun thanks to spawns that are generally far less annoying than they are in WoW. The built in location services make quests easier to complete than they are in WoW, but more involved than WoW + Questhelper. I'm at level 18 now, and solo quests have dried up for my area. It seems I should be grouping to finish the last part of this zone for the next two levels. I grouped a bit yesterday and did some elite hunting, it was a lot of fun.

Anyways, to put it in short: interface is great, game is extremely responsive (especially compared to crap like WAR), servers are running really smooth other than queue times, and the game looks gorgeous.

Give it a shot.

That's not exactly a comparable system to a 2 year old XPS laptop.

The laptop likely has an integrated card...he should see if other people have tried to run this off of integrated graphics.

Went into a brick and mortar shop and heaven above they wanted £40 for the normal game!?!

So now im paying out £30 for a code which kind of irks me as I like to have the box and manual when im paying this much but hey ho..

Join the DD revolution! I can't be bothered to keep space for a useless cardboard box and manual that I won't spend more than 5 minutes reading.

Or you could have gone to Amazon or Play.com and get the game for the same £30 and besides getting your code, you would get the discs, manual and useless cardboard box TheExodu5 said.

Age of Conan is a Beast though, so if it can even load Conan, it should run this game.

Are the EU Servers still down due to maintenance, or is it just me who gets this weird "nothing happens, and after a minute... - cannot connect to authentication server" problem?

Except its going to take 4 days if I ordered this morning? I wasn't planing on playing as I usually get burnt out on the early access.

tried D2D site and they wont take my mastercard or paypal and GAME has it listed for £30 until you click and it jumps to £35.

Edit: seems they dont like my free email (no mention of it anywhere other than in support) and now ive blocked my CC and pay pal :lol

Not even a queue - " "You cannot connect to the server because there are too many users right now""

I guess today it officially launches in Europe, but still :/

I was hoping they'd added those new servers before launch. Seriously though, what were they thinking? Only 5 English servers for Europe. 4 German and 3 French seems disproportionate, as everybody who doesn't speak German or French (and there's a lot!) will flood those English servers.

On another note; After hitting level 17, I kinda need to go through the Tursin outpost in a group. Died a few times trying to solo it :/ I'm more of a solo player, but let's see if I can get into a good group.

Wow, I think I never deleted my first character in a new MMO this fast. I thought creating a small guy for my priest would be cool, but man was I wrong. :lol

Just curious but why is this? I have a midget cleric as well and I haven't had any issues thus far. Am I missing something?

Animations look terrible scaled to a small character and for some reason he had to say something with his incredible horrible (german) voice I chose everytime I cast a spell.
The whole thing was just terrible and I had to delete him at level 3. :lol
