Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed will launch for PC via Steam on May 26, XSEED Games announced. The game will cost $29.99 / €26.99 / £19.99, but be sold at a 10 percent discount during its first week.

The Steam version will include the “Visual Editor” added in the PlayStation 4 version that allows players to customize every aspect of the game’s look, enhanced visuals with support for a wide variety of screen resolutions including 1080p, and numerous Steam features such as achievements and trading cards.

Here’s a summary of the game, via XSEED:

In Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed, players take an eclectic trip through a meticulous recreation of Tokyo’s “Electric Town” district, Akihabara (Akiba for short), to halt a growing malevolence that threatens everything the so-called “geek mecca” represents. Akiba has been invaded by vampiric monsters called “Synthisters” who prey on the anime- and game-obsessed patrons of Akiba – but these vampires feast on their victims’ social energy and will to live rather than their blood.

Taking on the role of a typical but naive local student named Nanashi, who has been transformed into a member of the walking undead himself, players must use an in-game smartphone app to identify which of the outwardly human inhabitants of Akiba are Synthisters, then free them of their clothes, exposing them to sunlight and sending them to the netherworld. To achieve this, players will use everyday objects from baseball bats to comic books to motherboards as weapons, beating enemies into submission before attempting to literally grab the shirts off their backs.

Dual Audio with English and Japanese voiceovers complement a narrative dripping with satire and nods to Japanese culture to create a bewitching modern day supernatural “otaku” adventure.

I'm looking forward to this, but I will stay my purchase until someone can confirm whether or not you can crack the framerate open.

EDIT: I'm not exactly sure how this is going to perform. Vita, PS3 and PS4 got it first and way ahead of this release, and this is based off the PS4 version. I don't see a bright future for this PC release, but you never know. I can't predict the market worth a damn.

I honestly thought that the game was already out on PC?

Looking forward to Trails in the Sky: SC now.

PS3 and Vita came first, then we got the PS4 version a few months later. The PC version XSEED is releasing was developed by Acquire, XSEED will handle the PC release worldwide through Steam.

Pretty sure Tom will post here, so might just leave this here.

Am I going to be able to play it at 60fps, no problem? Or framerate will be locked at 30, like PS4 version?

"To my knowledge, the game only supports 720p and 1080p HD"

Yeah guess you have to look for workarounds and ways to break the game again to get the most out of it.

" Acquire literally ported the game's code verbatim to PC, which means anything that held true of the console versions will also be true of the PC version." This bit seems kinda crazy though.

"You can't choose any others, at least not in the current build. We have advised Acquire that a wide selection of resolutions is important to Western PC gamers, so maybe more will be added, but 720p and 1080p are the only options guaranteed to be selectable at launch."

:(

For those wondering about resolution, this was said not too long ago.

We once said that AKIBA'S TRIP supported only 1080p & 720p, but ACQUIRE took fan feedback seriously, so it now supports 19 resolutions. YAY

Had fun with the Vita version so I'll pick this up to support them. Bummed about the 30 fps but if bringing games to PC with limited options is the start to more games on PC then I'm cool with that.

Hopefully future releases will see the viability of the PC market and weigh the decision as to whether or not to include the usual PC features.

I wonder why japanese developers don't just outsource their ports. If you have 0 experience with the platform, surely it would be cheaper to just let someone, who has done this for years, do it? Sure you'd pay them once, but it's not like getting a good port out is cheap when you have never done it before.

Maybe they simply have no idea what constitutes a good port? Isn't there an article by Durante that's been translated to Japanese?

What exactly is it missing that makes it a "bad port" other than it being 30fps? The resolution issue that people had is appaerently fixed since the developers actually paid attention to feedback. If 30fps is the issue though, then it's a lot more than just "Japanese developers" that are guilty of not adding in something higher.

The very fact that they originally thought offering only two resolution options is adequate, is enough for me to come to that conclusion. Games on PC have been around for a while and there are certain technical features, that are so basic, that you don't even really think about them. Offering a wide range of resolution options, and most importanly, your native resolution is among them. Arbitrary framerate too, though I actually understand that this can be (nearly) impossible if the original game has been programmed in a certain way. Animation comes to mind.

I'm not saying they cannot get better at this. I belive and hope they can. I'm just asking: Why bother? There are companies that would do it for them, and probably faster as well. I know I'm a bit selfish here, I just don't want every single developer out there to produce a few turds, before they get their shit together.

Uh... what?

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
OS: Windows Vista (SP2)
Processor: Intel Core i3-530 @ 2.93 GHz / AMD Phenom II X4 810 @ 2.60 GHz
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 / ATI Radeon HD 5870 (1GB VRAM)
DirectX: Version 11
Hard Drive: 3 GB available space
Sound Card: Compatible with DirectX 11

Aren't these requirements a bit on the high side? I fail even the RAM requirements... *sigh*

Wish they didn't used the PS4 version as the base...

Someone on Steam reminded me that the original game's framedrops on Vita didn't impact gameplay speed (action still takes the same amount of time regardless of how many frames are visible to the player), so it's very unlikely physics are tied to framerate.

Not sure why Acquire didn't step up to change that for either PS4 or PC but perhaps they are not aware of expectations for this sort of thing or perhaps there's a missing variable that makes it a lot more difficult than normal to do.

There's a lot of movement and unique animations in this game (it is a brawler, after all), so not having 60fps is a big downer. I still am wavering on whether I should just go ahead and buy it anyway though.

Also some of you guys are too quick to give up hope for Sen no Kiseki. :p

Uh... what?

Trust me, ratings these days on Steam are always overestimations. There's no way it requires that much juice to run this game.

It's a dev that doesn't historically release PC games. They always overestimate it. There's no way the game will be using 6 gigs of RAM.

Good news. I do wish games like this were announced a bit more in advance though, I'll have to hold off from buying it a launch due to being all gamed out.

Not really? That graphics card's pushing 5 years old, and the i3-530's of similar vintage.

The only thing that put me off the Vita version of this was the tiny zones. Literally every five seconds you would hit a loading screen. I know you can fast travel, but that kind of destroys the idea of an open-world recreation of Akihabara.

I keep meaning to go back, because the humour is excellent, but I just can't get up the enthusiasm.

If they fix that for the next one, I'm there.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Sounds like they've put a bit more effort into the port than it sounded like a couple months ago. Cool.

But it sounds like it's Steam-only for now? Wake me up when it hits GOG.

So is this game actually any good?

I know it's hard NOT to think I'm biased, but this was one of my top five games of the year for 2014 (if it counts as 2014!).

It's clearly very divisive, but it's one of the few games we worked on at XSEED solely because we evaluated it and unanimously loved it. And we all loved it for different reasons, too, which I found really fascinating!

For me, it was the quality satirical writing coupled with the likable characters and the huge variety of weapon types. I loved that if I ever got bored of attacking with one weapon, I could just switch to another and it was like I was playing a whole other game.

It's definitely not for everybody (again, clearly, given the negative/mediocre reception in these last few responses), but if it LOOKS like something you'd enjoy, I'd urge you to at least give it a shot. It's an acquired taste (ehh? ehh?!), but one I find to be quite delicious. ;)

Interesting to hear that Sara thinks it's a well-built port, knowing also that hypothetical specs for running it aren't representative often. Hopefully the game will do well in this post-graduation season.
