Alan Wake not on PC?

brain_stew said:
Any games that feature that logo must meet a certain amount of quality standards (stuff like widescreen resolution support, 360 controller support where relevant, Vista games explorer integration, that sort of thing), so your two initial statements are simply incompatible.
there already have been GFW branded games that didn't met all the standarts. Currently it truly tured into mere brand logo, nothing more

This was just posted by a Remedy employee on the Alan Wake community forums.

It sounds like it'll be a timed exclusive with the PC coming out after the 360 version. Considering they were still discussing the PC version earlier this year, it seems unlikely that it's been cancelled altogether.

Yup definitely seems like the case now;

The PC version of Alan Wake, if it does come at all, will be after Remedy releases it on Xbox 360 and they "evaluate the situation."

by IndustryGamers on Friday, July 10, 2009
Alan Wake has been in development for several years, long enough to have potentially had a PS3 release before Microsoft picked up the publishing rights, limiting the game to the Xbox 360 and PC. Now, however, it appears as though the game's release on PC is tenuous at best.

“We are fully concentrated on the Xbox 360 version,” said Sam Lake, lead writer for Alan Wake to Edge. “Other than that the plans are up in the air and open. Once we get this version done we’ll see.”

When pressed about bringing Alan Wake to PC, Lake responded, “As I said, the plans are open, and once we’re done with the 360 version we’ll evaluate the situation and see what makes sense.”

Microsoft Game Studios is pushing a game onto the Xbox 360 instead of PC, yet another piece of evidence why they murdered PC gaming.

For games published by MS I see more and more of this for the rest of this gen.

what horseshit. this is why i got a quad core processor.

not gonna play some inferior console version unless a pc version is confirmed not coming out.

PC gaming fuck yeah

:lol Awesome avatar.

Nice shank right to the testicles for the PC gamers who stood by Remedy all these years. I wonder how the situation looks over on their forums.

I wonder what would make them port it to PC. I can see them justifying not porting it to PC if it sells well or even if it sells horribly on 360.

I guess that means Alan Wake won't be worth playing...
It won't be playable at all "anytime soon". If it does come out, and if it is published by MGS, there's a chance that it will be the last MGS published PC game you will play.

Why the fuck announce something for one system then change it? Fucking arseholes.
Just to be clear, when was the last time that they had talked about the PC version of AW? I can't remember anything since that on-stage demo for Intel a couple of years ago. And, jeeze, guys...try not to sound too self-entitled and bitter about something that hasn't even been confirmed yet.

Remedy officially confirms it clearly.

Thank you for your continued interest in Alan Wake. It is accurate that we are currently working exclusively on the Xbox360 version of Alan Wake. PC plans are currently open, and therefore it’s safe to say that at least a simultaneous launch with the Xbox version will not happen at this late stage. Remedy has a deep heritage in PC gaming and would love to see a PC version available to its PC followers, ultimately however this decision lies with our publisher.”

We’ve also taken the time to update the FAQ to correctly reference the new situation.

Wow. This is the last remnant all over again. what a joke to all those that waited. I still remember the Intel demo from way back! Sucks for you PC guys :/

Microsofts wants to sell more consoles. That's all there reasoning there is behind this.

I'm going to wait for PC version as long as it needs... I have a 360, but I'm only interested on playing Alan Wake on PC.

Well, at least the PC version of the last remnant was vastly superior.

They're not going to shut out pc gamers. Microsoft wouldn't do that! All they're doing is delaying it so it can be released as a Windows 7/DirectX 11/Games for Windows Live exclusive. So turn those frowns upside-down!

Wow I didn't think it would be anything but a simultaneous release. The fact that it's not makes me believe it won't be released at all. They did it with Gears of War 2, they did it with Fable II, they're doing it with Alan Wake.

Oh well, I will only buy this on PC eventually, even though I own a 360. If it never hits PC I will never, ever play this game.

take that MS! TAKE THaT!1

I don't even play games on PC other than Braid and this pisses me off. There is so much bullshit like this that goes on these days, its quite sad. I'll still be getting this day one, but I wish these companies (Microsoft especially) would cut back on the moneyhat/exclusivity/dlc shit its really sickening. This game was demo'd on pc for crying out loud.

Microsoft trolling gamers once again. :/

:lol

Devs are so stuck on direct x that it means pc gaming is stuck to msoft, and they know it >_<

This is the IE monopoly all over again!.... PC gaming dies while microsoft concentrates 100% on the console, and apple and linux cant do much, and pc gamers cant do much...

BOOOOOOOOO!

GFWL is pretty much all the evidence you need of how terribad msoft is for pc... And they just suck.

I hate the xbox cause it kills pc gaming cause microsoft gets royalties from one.........

>_<

Hmph!

I'll just pretend that a PC version was never announced or shown, so I won't think "oh what could've been" constantly when I play Alan Wake in 720p and 30fps (with dips) on the 360. :/

I'll wait a few month a play a ultra superior version on my PC, like I did with Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge...

No offense but if you won't be able to enjoy a game because it's not at 1080p/120fps then I feel bad for you...I guess you don't even have a Wii because gaming at 480p would've been atrocious.

wouldn't doubt it.

So first Alan Wake was promoting DX10, then it disappeared for two eternities and when it comes back it's basically X360 game with the PC version having huge 'maybe' all over its face. Oh Microsoft how I love you.

They never announced Fable 2 or Gears Of War 2 for the PC though, did they? Just because MS are publishing the games, they have no obligation to put them on the PC. Alan Wake is a different case because of its history but you can't blame MS for wanting to push the 360. When their games come out on PC and 360 people are all 'xbox has few real exclusives because they're all available on PC', then when they make them exclusive to the 360 it's 'MS keeps screwing over PC gamers.'

Sorta sucks. Alan Wake felt like it would be more immersive on PC. I don't know what it is, I think it's the fact that you're sitting a lot closer to your monitor than you are on a couch with your TV.

Deus Ex comes to mind. I never played it on console but I did on PC and I can't imagine it any other way.

Damn! What the hell, I can wait for the PC version no matter how long it takes, I don't want to play a Remedy game with shit graphics.

Dammit they're gonna make me buy it for 360 too. Such a whore.

I think you've missed the point. Given the choice between playing a game in sub 720p at choppy framerates and playing it at 1080p at 60fps, he'd rather be playing the better quality version.

If a game has no alternative version to play, you don't have to think about it in the back of your mind every time the frame rates drops, as you wouldn't have that problem on the PC version. Most Wii games don't have PC versions, so this isn't the same thing.

It's sort of like if there's a Wii version and a 360 version of the game, and you own both consoles, how often do you buy the game on the Wii if the game doesn't use any of the Wii's features?

Basically.

I was referring to the fact that we've seen a PC version already. It was announced, it was shown, and there's the possibility when we'll play Alan Wake on our 360s, there's that lingering feeling of "what could've been".

Alan Wake was, imo, the best game at MS's E3 press conference, so I'm just extra concerned about this one. It's clearly a case of a game (and a game's dev, if I read that Remedy comment right) being held back by the publisher.

I hate you.

Honestly, Microsoft spent years to help build up PC gaming as a viable platform, then pisses it all away when they have a new plaything (consoles), fucking terrible.

I feel sorry for Remedy, it is clear they want tyo make Alan Wake for PC as intended, but MS are calling the shots here and clearly hate what was their main platform. I hope Remedy learns from this as ditches MGS as a publisher post haste once Alan Wake hits retail.

As much as it pisses me off that its not coming to PC (at least not immediately), I'm going to look at the brighter side of this news, albiet it being small.

If Microsoft is hoarding it to push sales to the 360, I'm going to take that as meaning they have seen it and think there is a quality product there and can get a significant contingent of the installed base. With MS meteing out the availability perhaps that means the game will be worth it.
