Alan Wake - The First 12 Minutes (German)

Right. I have like 5 post in this thread. Im totally hard on for alan wake. I just like pointing out stupid post. like the one you currently did.
And I have "0" posts attacking this game or any game I have never played so your desperate attempt to make it seem like a attack on the game when all that was mentioned in my post was what you get in the CE package that was posted. So yes save the fanboy drama.

The lighting is really just insane. I mean, just hearing the concept of the game you'd expect amazing lighting, but it really does surpass almost everything else, including God of War 3, which also had incredible lighting.

Do you have the game to make such comparisons?

Linkzg said:
I don't think it is robotic but it does seem to have similar problems to Uncharted 1 where the transitions between different animations are a bit rough. It doesn't bother me since it is usually to make the gameplay more responsive. Otherwise you'd have a GTA4 situation where everything feels sluggish.

I have always thought the transitions were one of the strong points of the Uncharted dynamic animation system.

any idea how much the DLC will be on its own? if it is 800 points, it seems like a good deal to just get the collectors edition. then again, Amazon has $10 credit back with the regular version of Alan Wake.
Remedy have mentioned on their forums that the first DLC will be included in all new copies of the game, but they've never reiterated that. Maybe they want people to assume it's a benefit of getting the collectors' edition?

It's an off-cam footage, so comments about the game being crisp are dubious, at best...

Easily one of the best looking games this gen.

It belongs in my top 5 personally... great use of texturing and amazing lighting all around. Epic has a lot to live up to on the 360 now...

Obviously I don't own Alan Wake yet since it isn't out. I'm still between RDR and Alan Wake for the game I buy on May 18th and I'm leaning towards RDR and passing on Alan Wake for now. I'm judging Alan Wake's lighting from the videos I've seen of it. If you're talking about God of War 3, then yes, I do own and have played it.

Actually, if the DLC comes will all new copies of the game like Heavy Rain's did, I might get it day one even if I might not play it right away. The bigger problem is time to play these games.

As for the transitions, I'm almost positive I'm not alone in thinking the animation transitions in Uncharted 1 were wonky. It wasn't as weird as Tomb Raider Underworld, which is like an extreme version of it, but it was still a bit jarring. One of the big improvements to Uncharted 2's visuals were making everything more consistent and smooth. And it is just the transitions. I think Uncharted and Alan Wake seem to have very nice animations regardless.

Someone needs to clarify what the 'Bright Falls pre-order bonus pack' actually is... the sites that I've seen advertise just state it's a t-shirt for your avatar and a theme... but I thought both of those were already included in the CE.

Looks like Banjo has been dethroned.

It is 2 additional Avatar Shirts and an additional theme. At least that tells me my store.

# 2 x Xbox Live Avatar T-Shirt
# Xbox Live Alan Wake Theme
# 10 T shirt sweepstake (real shirts, shop exclusive I think)

Yep, I'm equally torn between RDR and AW. I guess I will pick up both at the end.
AW will have awesome lighting, but I don't think it will top GoW or some other games due to the lager scale. But who knows, lets wait for the release.

Uncharted transitions might seem wonky because it actually has transitions ;)
I thought they were groundbreaking back in the day and most games are still far away from that level. I'm more than happy if AW can achieve this quality.

Using procedural animations on Uncharted has paid off tremendously. I think that what makes the cohesiveness of Drake's adventures visuals is the comination of eye pleasing graphics and natural, fluid movements...

Those Brightfalls episodes are great, and i must tip my hat to Remedy/MS for doing this. Shows how important story is, a trend i hope continues into next gen. Perfect way to build familiarity to the universe and appreciation of whats to come.

Might be the best mix of film and videogaming yet! Halo would benefit from this i think, though the budget might be pretty steep.

How many episodes of Brightfals will be released? And can I also download the HD versions on my computer?

I must see them (in HD) before I plunge into Alan Wake.

Arggh GAF this or Read Dead Redemption?

I'm leaning to Wake, appeals to me so much more. I'm not sure what they're like on the marketplace, but watching the brightfalls vids online is pretty cool. The quality isn't great but I love the way they've used the rest of the screen for effect. Genuinely scary.

Six. And I guess, you can use Youtube downloader or something if they can't be downloaded from Brightfalls.com

I'm going with Wake day 1, but will be picking up RDR in June likely.

The reviews are embargoed until 6am BST on 5th May.

A good bit earlier than most MS released games iirc.

So no remedy staff on gaf?

Pretty sure if there are any they rarely come around. Anyhow it's getting time for that official thread.

i also always thought transitions in uncharted were quite jarring...i could never understand people praising uncharted animations.

I'm getting both.

No way i'm passing up any of them though with AW you run the risk of the game being spoiled for you the longer you don't play it.

Also get the marketplace HD episodes miles better watching them on your TV.

That's not going anywhere. It's already been confirmed as fair game pretty much forever.

Yeah don't expect anything different the same names will be back.

Now Amirox also said that it's up to the people in the thread to lead the conversation which i hope people will be doing and not quoting people seeking certain responses.

Though by the games release i would imagine most people will be more interested in story discussion and those of us not getting the game... will find their own talking points ignored.

It's pretty simple to have the conversations you want and not pay attention to the ones you don't.

Which is great if you live in a Live supported country, here in South Africa it's the no bonus dlc standard and collectors editions for us just like Gears 2 and Forza 3.:S

Game does look great though.:D

BenKuchera Just finished the first Episode of Alan Wake. Holy shit this is good

Uhhh, need this game.

BenKuchera The use of music so far has been the biggest surprise: great soundtrack.

I knew this would be the case.

BenKuchera We're allowed to preview the first episode of the game, so I hope to have a writeup for you guys tomorrow.

I see ars technica is liking the game. It seems a lot of reviewers who are playing the game are allowed to say something about the first episode and so far everyone is amazed by it.

Holy **** you guys need to check out this new vid

Don't worry there aren't a lot of spoilers, since there is no sound and the subtitles are in korean. But seriously check it out it, the game looks VERY crisp, no way that looks blurry in any way.

:O

First time I've watched any footage since the first reveal trailer. Holy **** is right. Game looks incredible.

Do you mean it won't top GoW or other games because these games have a larger scale than Alan Wake or that Alan Wake's larger scale makes it not able to top the lighting?

Just curious on clarification. =P
