Alan Wake - The First 12 Minutes (German)

Well, GamePro is not really a good magazine (well most of german game magazines sucks).

This "Leak" (there are no screens for this review) gives 10/10 for graphics (!). So - I don't know, seems like a lot of bullshit.

Some people on other German forums like consolewars confirm the review.

87 and 93 from the no name Euro reviews so far eh not bad. Although 10/10 on Graphics from GP Germany well let's just say I think we're all ready for the big western reviews. I'm not sure they actually moved anything up just based on that Kotaku comment. Late tomorrow night/early Weds is still likely I'm thinking. If that IGN comment is correct 11:00 on the west coast would still make it Weds for us on the east coast.

Seems like German Gamepro reviewed the game. Here's what they had to say (taken from videogameszone.de forums):

Graphics:
+ great landscapes and special effects
- lots of tearing (!)
- strange animations

Sound
+ great soundtrack and sound effects
+ English language included
- bad German dub

Other:
+ Interesting story
+ atmospheric setting
+ lots of checkpoints
+ feels like a TV show
- game is missing highlights gameplay wise
- too easy
- camera can be annoying in action sequences
- too many walks through the woods

87%

Yeah, Gamepro sucks, I wouldn't pay much attention to their scores. I'm waiting for the Eurogamer review.

960x540 with larger tearing problems. This was always destined as a PC game it seems. Just fantastic.

... Yet it still got a 10 in graphics. :lol Doesn't sound too much of an issue judging by that.

Yep, 10 out of 10 for graphics is pretty fantastic :p

I'm actually a bit confused. Didn't Remedy promise to get rid of the tearing?

Yeah, what the fuck? Has Remedy always lied this much? I remember reading that post from Remedy saying that they got rid of tearing and that it was only tearing in recorded videos. After Alan Wake I'm probably never buying another Remedy game if they keep lying to their fans.

why wait until after?

Urgh, tearing. The 540p was disappointing, but I'd rather it be 540p with no tearing, but we get both. Triple buffer that shit Remedy. Hopefully it won't be too distracting.

Been waiting five years for this game, I just won't care about their next product and get hyped. I actually don't mind the fact that it's sub-hd and that it tears, my main problem is the way Remedy spins everything to try and fool their fanbase. Either don't say anything like most devs, or tell the truth.

"Well, it's not really a bug; it's just that when you're capturing video, it tends to get kind of complicated. The screen tears all the time in this video, and in general the game looks very choppy -- I mean, just to pick an example, take the part starting at 2:10, when Wake's running towards the wooden stairs: at least on my computer, you can actually clearly see the screen freeze for a fraction of a second a couple of times, at always the exact same spots. That's definitely not what happens when you're actually playing the game. It's just one of those things."

I don't have an account to confirm, btw.

Tearing? It may be a video only artifact. The game should not tear...
Facials - sure.
Driving - yea I think something like that is in the plans
Bugs in Digital Foundry's tech video? I don't know what that refers to.

But yeah we should have ample time to optimize and tweak stuff like the above.

that's crazier than your first post! i don't think they're really trying to fool anyone here...

What exactly did Remedy lie about? Before it went gold they said it was locked at 30 FPS, and would resort to tearing in some situations to keep that 30 FPS, which is what a lot of games do. They promised to further minimize any tearing/FPS dips, and I'm sure they have done that.

Brilliant how so many people jump straight to a conclusion like it's a solid fact after reading a review from some unknown German site.

Hey guys tonight at 6 pm pst, if you want to take a listen to the Whatever podcast featuring Don (Scitek) and myself. You know, if it's a good review, it's from moneyhats and complete bullshit.

If it's bad, it's the truth yet unspoken.

And viceversa, according to the occasion and the platform of choice :lol

Awesome dude, going to... 3AM??? ;) Hopefully it is downloadable later.

Gametrailers has 4 new developer walkthrough videos up. There is quite a lot of tearing.

:EDIT: Sorry the tearing was actually the video buffering on my computer, when its playing smoothly you can't actually see hardly any tearing at all.

The game looks great from those videos, definitely getting a nice Resident Evil/Silent Hill vibe from it. Does anyone know if there is going to be a demo?
