Alan Wake - The First 12 Minutes (German)

Just watched the HD Briftfalls episodes. Wow, this is amazing (blatant Twin Peaks copy of course)! Shame they fucked up the gamma and the sound. Now please put episode 3 on the marketplace.

Didn't see this posted, checked couple of pages back.

Finnish gaming magazine Pelit has a review for Alan Wake.

Good: Magnificent atmosphere, good pacing, combat supports the vibe
Bad: Narrator is bland, some technical issues, the hud is useless

87/100, and Pelit recommends award.

They really dislike the narrator, though agree that despite how bad it is, it's kinda needed for the great atmosphere. The atmosphere also comes from great sound and music, the actual gameworld, references to some TV shows and movies, and good characters. The story is pretty basic, but the pacing makes it work with help of the good combat. And the use-of-light-sources -system actually works well. They say the animation of the characters looks old, lip sync is off sometimes, the textures are pretty low res and the hud is useless and takes a bit away from the atmosphere showing there all the time. Not quite a masterpiece, but pretty close.

There's also 2 page stuff about Remedy and stuff about making Alan Wake.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who noticed this. You mean the one's that are on XBL right?
CAN'T SEE SHIT!

That's a weird one. A lot of other peeps are raving about the textures.

Well, that one other person who's played it also said they looked bad from up close. From what I managed to gather from the videos, environmental textures look great, but various interior decals like text signs and hanging paintings do seem to be low res.

If the game is running at 540p, that would probably make even high res textures look a bit blurry. Game still looks great regardless.

There's a difference between textures that are blurry because of upscaling and textures that are low res from the get go. From what I've seen, some of Alan Wake's textures are simply low res, which is not that uncommon, especially not in console games.

Well the games been leaked as expected. My little Pirate friend around the corner who ruined bits of Mass Effect 2 for me by posting up pictures of Garrus will probably get it some how. Might see if I can get some hands on time with the game over at his place and post up some impressions.

that's probably not a good idea.

I wouldn't bother. Even if it's your friend's pirated game and not yours it's probably best to avoid a ban by giving impressions from leaked games.

I really don't have an explanation for it but i definitely will be picking this up, but I haven't really seen much about it.

Don't condone pirating with pirated impressions bro.

Again another clear reason it should have been released this week. Stop shipping your games so early MS and learn something. Not that it will prevent pirates however. It will stop the blatant spoilers all over the net before it's actually released however.

Wait, there is a PC version of Alan Wake? :lol

edit:
Kotaku AU impression of Episode 1. More like a detailed writedown, so spoilers ahead

Wat? I expect the story to be top notch. Especially after watching Darkfalls.

Article is not actually saying that the story is basic. There are two reviewers, one says that the story is "not much better than your average Stephen King story" and also says that the pacing is really good. The other points out that plot twists are hard to predict. Both praise the atmosphere.

I really hope I manage to avoid spoilers.

What games have even close to Stephen King storys anyways? lol:lol As if thats normal or something.

At the way things are going, I think it's a little less about money and part of getting it so early. Heck the guy that you're replying to can't wait to get to his house to play, and you guys might actually be looking forward to his impressions. They gotta stop the leaks. Banning xbox consoles don't seem to be enough of a deterrent. The pirates might not even go online with those boxes.

There is a world of difference between Stephen King writing and a Stephen King story. It is not what he writes about (the premise), but how he writes it.

Nah.. something more mysterious and creepy please.
Agreed, something that'll intrigue/interest people for the right reasons, not the wrong ones.

My name is Alan Wake. I'm a writer. | The Official Thread is much better, but not perfect.

When I watched the Alan Wake episodes, they were really dark, I could barely make anything out. Is this a problem or the way the episodes are suppose to be?

It was corrected by Machinma or whatever it was, see last page.

I posted it several times now and this is my last time I hope. Watch/download the episodes on the youtube channel of machinima.com. The black levels are fixed and the quality is nice as well.

It's great that they plaster the video with banners, completely ruining the atmosphere. "THE END OF EPISODE 3 IS CRAZY....."

Machinima sucks, I rather wait for the XBL verison.

I just watched the Bright Falls episodes and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised, they're nice little shorts.

Which reminds me, has any of you heard of Marble Hornets? I thinks some of you people might find it interesting. Here's the introductory episode which explains the basic premise:

Some weird shit happening on the later tapes.

Never heard of this and looking into it now. Pretty creepy stuff.

To wait in anticipation for 5 years and buy, or to wait in anticipation for 6 years and receive from Goozex.

That is the question.
