'ALIEN' monster design stolen . . . how many times??

That isn't an alien without a dome. That's that wierd alien/human hybrid from Alien Resurrection.
The alien from the first movie actually has a human skull under the shiny dome. Look for pics of the alien and you can see the skull pretty clearly.

The whole marine cam homage cutscene made me nauseous. I'm really, really tired of any Aliens reference in games. Yeah, I've seen the movie too game industry.

It's a testament to how 'right' Cameron got the future military soldier. No spandex suits, no space lasers, no red plexiglass space helmets, just badass marines.

Nah. The Alien from Ressurection looks horrible. Puppy eyes and wierd pointy nose.

That's a domeless Alien. Ridley Scott's movie had the original creatures with the skull underneath the dome. Its supposed to be the genetic traces of the Alien's raped host.

Then Cameron came along and fucked everything with those stupid ribcage heads.

Eh, all he really did was remove the dome. Even though there are "canonical" reasons for this (maturation of those ones vs. the "newborn" in Alien), I think I read (on IMDB?) that they went with the ridges because they were able to incorporate a more flexible design, as the Xeno's in Aliens were a lot more "active" than the original.

I'll take your word for it because I don't feel like looking up pictures and info on google :lol Although I don't agree about Cameron fucking anything up.

Wow. The human skull inside the 70's version all along is a fucking bomb shell. When was this revealed or whatever? Is there some back story that I missed out on?

He did it for budget reasons, the domes would break easily if not carefully handed.
But it wasnt just the dome, the skull was gone too, and it really was a huge part of the whole Alien concept of assimilating some of its host's characteristics, mannerisms and even feelings.

Cameron´s Alien

Dont get me wrong, i LOVE Aliens. And Cameron "redeemed" himself with the Queen anyway :D

edit: Well, that was pointless :lol

I prefer the idea that the aliens are eyeless and noseless creatures.

edit: I just noticed the alien figure (from a aliens vs predator todd mcfarlane figure set) I have on top of my desk has a transparent dome (no skull underneath). And it's body is the same as Cameron's alien design.

The concept is that the Alien assimilates some of its hosts memories, personality and physical traits.

Remember when the Alien slowly wraps its tail around the chick that screamed alot in Alien79?
Supposedly, that was the only way Ridley found to emply that she was gonna be rapped before being killed without the board jumping on his back.
The idea was that the crew member that gave birth to the Alien was sexually attracted to her, and that carried over.

They have no eyes though. Like i said, the skull is just DNA leftovers from its original host

Yeah :-\ Domed/undomed original Alien are terrifying--shame he removed that. Even if you couldn't even see it in the movie, it's awesome :D

It's a shame that the franchise was kinda bastardized in the last two movies. I was reading up on all the rewrites for Alien 3 and some of the ideas were great...some of them...eh. I think one of the scripts involved the Alien DNA getting into butterflies, mosquitoes, deer, and even inorganic forms, so the ship slow starting turning into a huge Alien :lol

I love the biomechanical aspect, but a giant ship Xeno would have been too much, I think.

Some of the scripts also focused on Newt and Hicks...which makes the final script even more infuriating.

People can make fun of the alien design all they want, but if you saw one of those things IRL you'd literally flip your shit....

Who in the history of sanity has ever made fun of the alien designs?

Wow, it's been a while since I've seen the original, but I didn't even pick up on that. Holy shit.

I never picked up on this either. Is it in the commentary? I recently watched both Alien and Aliens, and despite watching the director's cuts of both, I've yet to listen to the commentary for either. I might change that tonight.

Yeah the concept of a wooden planet with monks and Aliens running through cornfields and wooden gothic cathedrals in space was the very definition of "out there". I remember laughing when i saw a concept of an Alien/sheep hybrid (i think it was a sheep) :lol

Doesn't infuriate me at all. Too idyllic, really. Though that's not to say the final script was a stunner or anything, far from it. But considering all the production problems that movie faced, yeah, I am stunned it turned out as good as it did.

I also saw all of the "restored footage" for Alien 3. I can tell Terry Rawlings was only cutting around some rather weak - or I would say more poorly executed - ideas. The theatrical cut was quite a bit better with a few small tradeoffs. I'm no film editor, but I have to do this all the damn time with music. You have to hide as many clumsy parts as you can with as few detriments to the final product as possible. Ultimately you're never going to be able to get a great product because you weren't handed the core parts to get that. Still, you can improve on what's there, and he did his job well.

The way it was described on the DVD was fantastic in my opinion. I would love to see that movie.

Guess it didn't infuriate me, but it seemed so ham-fisted, the way the characters' fates were handled.

For anyone interested...Giger's original work:

Not necessarily NSFW but I'll leave this right here: http://purearts.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/hr_giger_necronom_v.jpg?w=450&h=303

For all its flaws, one thing no-one can take away from Alien3 is the photography. Goddamn that movie is a beauty at times.

Thank god for the latest cut, the damn studios left so much material in the editing room its not even funny.

Fincher's look when the dog started hopping around the sets with the loose Alien head bobbing around was priceless :lol

I know! The last time that happened to me, I freaked the hell out. I was screaming like a wounded rabbit as I ran for my life. But the glistening horror of the xenomorph kept getting closer, and closer... Then it hit me: I was totally fine. I've never even been to Mount Vesuvius.

Everyone who copies the Alien design and also adds visible eyes should be shot.

haha, it does take away so much of what makes them so terrifying. I always liked the "unknown" feeling you had when seeing an Alien that isn't using the same senses that a human would (though, for biological reasons is still a hominid)

looking into the faceless no-eyes of an Alien gives you the idea that something extrasensory is going on beyond man's ignorance.

Actually the one thing no one can take away from Alien 3 is its soundtrack. But it also looks fantastic. Those sets too... I think a high point in my life was seeing David Giler rake Fox over the coals in the Alien Quadrilogy extras. Hoo boy.

The material they left on the cutting room floor was best left cut. I know it had potential, but.. What it looked like is what it looked like. If I would've been editing, those are definitely the cuts I would've made.

Aliens 3 is a funny beast. There's a lot I like about it. It just can't live up to the first two movies, and the abomination that followed made it more pronounced.

Giger's work is just amazing. Truly in a class of its own. So iconic. People aren't 'stealing' when they mimic it. It's a standard.

What i meant was that he downplayed the "rape scene" that preceded her death so the Censorship Board wouldnt mess with the movie.

Imagine a world in which Jodorowsky's "Dune" was actually made, and Giger designed Geidi Prime. Imagine it!

David Lynch's Dune is still great.

I think I would have liked it a lot better.
