If the multiplayer in this is reminiscent of the previous AvP games with the replayability of Modern Warfare, I can EASILY see this stuck in my 360 for the next 2 years like Modern Warfare has been. I'll be Aliens all the way, but the info that's come out about the Pred has made them pretty damn intriguing. This and MW2 are the two games I can't wait to get spinnin' in my box within the next 8 months.

So at this point, does anybody even care about Gearbox's Alien game? There's been no news about it for some time now.

I'll play any Alien game. Only games based around a movie franchise that are actually good.

God damn, the Predator just looks so badass in this game. And the multiplayer modes sound awesome. I really really hope this turns out well. It sounds like it would consume a lot of my time online.

If they can do a great job sure. The ideas they had for that game sounded great.

I've said it too many times now, but I'll say it again: day fucking one.

Ah, good ol' juniors. The AvP video game franchise is a lot older than the movie franchise.

I didn't mention AvP movie franchise. I specifically mentioned the "Alien" movie franchise, which began in Late 70's ('79 for Alien, correct?)

I've been reading the AvP comics since the early 90's and the Alien comics back in the late 80's, so I think it's safe to say I know my timeline in terms of Alien, Pred, and AvP media.

I understand Juniors get some jive, but at least call me out on something I legitimately get wrong.

Sounds and looks great. I would love some L4D VS-esque action, but I'll take what I can get when it's AvP and this is more than I was expecting.

I was hyped for the game remembering how awesome first AvP on PC is. But to be honest my hype was gone after watching the E3 walkthrough video. After watching it I thought to myself: "What a clunky pos!". Of course it was e3 build and rebellion is solid so I'm hoping it will turn out good, but I can't shake that feeling of numbness about the title. The trailers do nothing for me.

Wait ,I found the vid.

This was a very pleasant surprise for me at E3. For those of you that played 'em, this is the same team that made the first AvP, and it was the scariest fucking game short of System Shock 2. I was dangerously close to pissing myself while playing the original game, and after seeing the setup of a crashed ship with acid burns that went up multiple decks and through the floor to the dusty planet underneath, I was very very into things. The rest of the demo was classic Cameron-era Aliens treatment, with an auto turret tearing through multiple hordes of xenomorphs coming down the hallway with a constantly-ticking-down ammo counter from the other side of the "protective" door to the way they didn't break in but crawled all over the ceiling and fucked everyone up.

This game is going to scare the shit out of me. And it looks quite nice to boot.

Wait, is this the same game as "Aliens vs Predator"?

Yes? It's the third major entry in the franchise. Rebellion handled the first way back when, Monolith handled the second, and now Rebellion and coming back for the third (minus the 3 tag).

Anyone figured out what "18 way multiplay" means yet?

I think it could mean Aliens Vs Predators Vs Humans. 3 teams of 6. So 3 way gameplay. Or it just means 18 players. :lol

This has got the potential to be such an incredible game and as a previous poster commented, this could be 'the next Modern Warfare' for me as well.

4 player co-op vs hordes of Aliens FTW.......ALONE.

I thought the same but not necessarily 3 teams of 6. The original and it's sequel never had team balance. I'm thinking that "18 way" sort of describes that. An example would be 2 Preds v 10 Bugs v 6 Marines or any other combination. It also used a point system which balanced out quite well, Preds were 150, Marines 100 and Aliens 50.

I can't remember the original player cap, I'm thinking it was 8 (maybe 10?) but myself and a friend used to play as Preds versus a bunch of marines and vice versa. Great fun all round! 1 Pred V 17 Marines has a delicious ring to it.

Looking forward to the game. I thought AvP2 was a really awesome and scary game. It was fun to play as each side, and I hope that the same will hold for this game.

Aye, I always found Pred vs Marine, Or Marine v Aliens to be the most fun. Havin all 3 species in the same session just made it to hectic and messy for my taste. Hopefully that will change for the better with this one!

Don't play aliens.

Hope it's as vomit inducing as the first game :)
You either could handle them or you couldn't. Running around on ceilings and jumping from wall to wall to get right over a marine's head so you can pounce on them from above was awesome. :D

Rebellion also made the old jaguar version of Alien VS Predator.

It was mostly when there were bumps on the ceiling or wall that got my head spinning. If they somehow just made the screen gradually move to signify you're traversing un-level planes, then it would greatly increase my enjoyment of the Aliens. it was the constant 90 degree pivots every time a tiny air duct was maneuvered across that made me disoriented.

Are Rebellion still a good (or even competent) developer? I remember their last game Judge Dredd, also a FPS, wasn't well very received at all.

.......

I never played AVP1 or 2, but I was wondering how Monolith's take on the franchise held up comared to Rebellions? (ie. what were the main differences, if any, between how the two games played?)

Monolith's AvP2 just seemed overall more polished IMO...probably had something to do with being prettier though. I liked the pacing better than that of AvP1.

Why are people freaking out?

The Darkness and Stranglehold had multiplayer too.
Because AvP2 was one of the best multiplayer games ever, and if this is half as good it'll still be better than every other multiplayer game this year.

After BiA: HH, I pretty much lost faith in Gearbox. That game was terrible to the max.

I think it looks fine. Just weird because they're playing it on a gamepad.

They were pretty similar. Campaigns were a lot better in avp2. In terms of mechanics I think monolith were content just recreating what rebellion had done.

Check in again for Borderlands in a few months.

Kibbles that is blasphemy. BiH: HH is the best world war 2 videogame this side of Allied Assualt. I honestly thought you had more class than that.

Thanks. I guess also the online multiplayer was also an aspect of Monolith's game that has been quite praised as seen throughout this thread.

Sorry for being a broken record, but I really hope this game does well. I love these franchises a lot and it sucks how FOX has screwed up the movies of them recently. Having a great game do them justice will negate that though. :D
