I need news on expansions/DLC
I would love to see DLC sooner rather than later, but it seems pretty early. It was seven months between Resogun and its Heroes DLC. I don't think it was even detailed until a couple weeks before release.

Is it worth getting this game for single player?
i don`t have a plus subscription and don`t think i will buy one for this game alone (maybe there wont be an active community for his soon).

It's more fun in co-op, but it's a really REALLY fun shooter mechanics wise that you will definitely be able to enjoy single player. The only real complaint (lack of variety at end game) about the game is valid regardless of whether you play co-op or solo.

Agree with everything.
Though getting to the end-game with a single character will take you between 15 and 20 hours. And there's 3 characters. So I'm close to having played 40 hours and still haven't had issues with the lack of "end-game".

On the other hand, I read today that news on the next patch or DLC should drop on the 21st.

I'm really looking forward to it, I've enjoyed this game A LOT.

Got this earlier today. Had been a bit apphensive because I had gotten Helldivers on Steam about two months ago, and this seemed pretty similar, and really focused on co-op. But then I realized it was from the Dead Nation devs and saw the comments here about the solo play being really solid (and I just got a PS4)

So yeah, this is awesome. Helldivers' is still unmatched in the satisfying feedback department, the guns there just feel so damn powerful to fire, but here, the visuals of it all more than make up for that. This game is absolutely gorgeous, the explosion and effects of your attacks and weapons are just non-stop eye candy, and it's really fun in single player. In SP, you definitely need to take advantage of everything, from timing your reloads to funneling enemies.

If you ever want to team up give me a shout. I absolutely love this game and am always looking for people to play with. Got one character to hero level 100 but have two still sitting in World 1, one around level 18 and one around level 10. I'd start a new one as well. PSN: rarbusto, even if I'm playing something else hit me up.

I put it down a couple weeks ago after we beat the Ark ship and hit top 1000 score, but wouldn't mind experiencing it all again.

First free update hitting July 5th. Local co-op is in, as well as leagues, some other stuff and DLC.

Hi there,

At Housemarque, we believe community is king. We read and discuss every comment you write, every feedback you send. Your opinions are really important to us, and we heard you loud and clear: local co-op will be added to Alienation on July 5th! So gather your friends and spouses, buy some snacks and make space on the sofa: local co-op comes with 4 concurrent players on the same screen, and in classic friendship-breaking fashion you’ll have to fight over who gets the best loot when opening a crate!

The new update also introduces the much requested Leagues system: divided into 5 Ranks and 1-week cycles, Leagues will allow you to climb the ladders of glory and unlock new bullet colors in the process.

In addition to that we’re adding two new difficulty levels for all the Alienation veterans: Expert and Master. Along with these, you’ll find 3 new trophies, a richer Arkship experience (with new rooms, harder enemies, better loot), adjustments to Legendary weapons loot drop rates and increased Hero levels cap.

All of this comes for free. If you’d like to support us, on July 5th we’re also releasing on PlayStation Store Survivor’s Pack, Alienation’s first DLC, individual items to purchase separately and the Alienation Season Pass!

Survivor’s Pack includes the possibility to make all main weapons available to all classes, a new piece of gear (the Vortex Grenade, which sucks all enemies to a central gravity point dealing constant damage) and three exclusive bullet colors. Get it for only $5.99/2.99€. The Season Pass, priced $9.99/7.99€, gives you a big bundle discount on this and upcoming DLC, including Conqueror’s Pack, Veteran Heroes Pack, the game’s soundtrack and Alienation’s Dynamic Theme.

So they want $6 for....a grenade and some primary weapons that have already been in the game since launch? Did I read that right?

I like this game alot but that seems extremely bare for DLC.

Excited about higher difficulties and better Ark ship. Was getting a bit easy with all that health at the higher hero levels. I'll buy the Season Pass, was worth it for Resogun. I just hope the leagues can keep the community alive long enough for a new locations and Ark like activities.

Also being able to use any primary with any class is a game changer. I'll actually play my tank now.

I actually really like the tank primary, but it's great that you can swap out for better range if necessary.

It's a good weapon but if you are underleveled getting too close to some encounters can result in insta-death. I like playing further away giving me more time to dodge incoming attacks. Didn't really fit my play style well but I do like the special abilities so I'm happy I can trade it out for a Bio-Specialist weapon now.

The PS4 just started downloading update 1.03 here in Australia. Woohoo, bring on the couch co-op tonight.

Edit - Update is 1.6GB

Great to finally have local co-op but there are a LOT of limitations. Helldivers can do most of these so it's a shame the same functionality isn't in here. Hopefully they are taking feedback onboard and some of these things get fixed. The game is a blast to play otherwise.

- The camera doesn't zoom out or move in the direction you are aiming which makes it a very cramped experience.
- There doesn't appear to be a way to play with both local and online players. For example, two players on the one console and two players online.
- Inventory screens are shared so while one person is doing something, the other is locked out.
- There can only be one tooltip active for items dropped in the world, meaning one person can't pick up cores while another is picking up a weapon. One player has to move off an item for the tooltip to show up for the other player.

This is a shame. Was a massive fan of dead nation and was looking forward to couch co-op here, but it sounds like it needs some work to me.

I loved Dead Nation and I have it on PS3, PS4 and Vita.
Yet I love Alienation even more.

Much more than enough to double dip on this one as well and get the following:

They're generally very good at post game support so I'm confident they'll fix most if not all of those issues over time. I guess it's been hard for them because the game wasn't designed around providing local co-op, which was definitely an unusual decision for tihs kind of game.

It's certainly not bad. I mean, it works and all and you can play with up to 4 players on the same screen which is a great start, but it lacks the refinement of other games such as Helldivers and Diablo 3 for example. Hopefully they will continue working on it and get it to the point that it doesn't just work, but really excels at it too. You can certainly feel that the game wasn't designed around local co-op though, as it feels like an after thought rather than built around it from the ground up. It was a strange choice given their previous games all featured local co-op from the start.

Is it worth coming back to after the patch? Haven't played in awhile. Felt like I did all there was to do.

Definitely. There are two new, harder difficulties now which have been really great with the better drop rates. The league stuff seems cool enough, but it will be interesting to see how it is in a few weeks time when everyone isn't a bronze rank. Can't say I remember if it was in before but there's now 9 voice binds rather than 3. You press a direction on the d-pad which then gives you 3 choices. Great changes.

Right, really wondering about that, as I would assume that their previous games had a huge fanbase because of great couch coop action. Hope they´ll fix the issues.

The Arks have some nifty and trickier new rooms added in, using variations on the laser beam obstacles. The new difficulty levels are great additions too.

Yeah, seems pretty weak to me.
Eh, I don't know why you'd even pay any attention to the individual purchases when the season pass is loaded for just $10. All the packs and the soundtrack. It's basically how Resogun was too, the season pass is overwhelmingly the best way to get the DLC.

So my buddy had a legendary crate(the big orange ones) in one of the missions, anyone know how to spawn them??
They're random, and super rare.

Housemarque was definitely blindsided by how much people demanded local co-op, especially with how people didn't care that it wasn't really designed for it. The weapons, enemies, abilities, environments, etc are pretty designed for players to be able to move all over, while local co-op mostly requires a relatively small screen area to confine players. While it's nice that Helldivers supported all kinds of co-op, the confined space and requirement that all players stick together could be pretty limited in that, even when it was designed for it. I feel like Alienation would really take a hit if I ever felt confined in my movements based on where my co-op partner was in relation to me.

Ran my first, full course of Legendary Ark Ship, today, and the rewards were generous, though not useful.

Think I've also discovered my current favorite team strategy: lob and separate a Cluster Grenade inside a teammate's Vortex Grenade.

In fact, the Vortex Grenade just seems to mesh extremely well with a lot of other things. Like Shoot: Lightning and Melee: Boomerang.

Hi all, thinking of picking up Alienation in the PSN sale.
Would be interested in playing couch co-op at home, as I did for dead nation.
However, I've heard something about there being no trophy support etc for player 2, and that generally its not a great couch co-op experience. Anyone care to fill me in on the current state of things?

Have another question relating to local co-op.

Can you mix local and online play, i.e., could a friend and I play on one console with a friend who's on another?

Trophies actually do unlock for other players in local co-op, not just player one. I originally reported that they did not unlock, but that was incorrect information.

Unfortunately you cannot mix local co-op and online play at this stage :(

OK thanks for that - does it save the progress for player 2 - i.e any exp, weapons, etc or does player two essentially start with a blank slate every time you fire up the console?

The no trophies thing for player one seems odd, maybe they'll patch it.

I think he meant that all players get trophies, nor exclusively player one

Thanks. Still going to buy it regardless, but was just wondering if I should have had a friend bring an extra console over this weekend, so we could have two players on each.

Have another question, if someone doesn't mind. Are there multiple character/save slots? Just wondering, as I'd like to have one character for solo play, and one that's designated for coop.

How frequently are folks getting 12 slot weapons in the highest (new) difficulties? I'm still pining for that platinum and it's all I'm missing.

Would like to know if it keeps a local profile for player 2 though with character progress and gear.

Every local player that turns on a controller has to select a user on the PS4 console. Progress is saved separately for each user. So yes, everything gets saved :)

Yep. There are 10 save slots for your characters (actually, they call them 'campaigns' in the game) and you can load them up quickly and easily from the options menu or when you start the game.

How frequently are folks getting 12 slot weapons in the highest (new) difficulties?

Unfortunately, not that regularly. I'm around hero level 220 and I'm still yet to see a 12 slot primary, or a 12 slot shotgun for my secondary. I've gotten a 12 slot launcher and a 12 slot revolver but that's it. Legendary drop rates certainly seem higher, but chances of getting a 12 slot still seem quite low.

Any solo mothership tips?

Haven't seen any re-spawn beacons in there.. Can you re-spawn?
No respawning on the mothership, so it's probably best to go slow and steady. If you need to, no shame in replaying other stages to level up, find improved guns, get cores for upgrading, etc. Reroll your weapon stats if you haven't and can afford it. Everything helps.

I'm loving this game still. Purchased the dlc and am loving the new grenade and ability to use all the primary weapons on each class.

However I feel there aren't enough weapons. I'm dying for more variety, obviously I'm not expecting Borderlands levels of variety but I defintely want more.

I've ranked all 3 classes to level 30, and am working up my hero levels, but having legendary weapons in primary secondary, equipment etc I'm starting to want something more to work for, simply leveling up my hero level is not enough. I've also noticed the online population is already getting pretty small.

I'd also like some new levels, new enemy types etc. To be honest there's so much they could do to this game to make it even more awesome, fingers crossed for the future.....

This game is so much fun. I bought it a while back, and played a little bit of it, but I was waiting for couch co-op so me and my wife could play together like we did with Dean Nation on PS3 and PS4. Wasn't disappointed.

We had a lot of fun, but we don't get to play much until the weekends. I may try and squeeze in a game tonight though. Really love this game. I was watching some Youtube video the other day, and they put Dead Nation on a list of "2016's most disappointing games." I seriously have no idea what he was on. Game is just as fun as Dead Nation, if not moreso because of the skill progression and weapons, among other things. I HOPE they release a Vita version someday. Dead Nation was fun on the Vita, but I could kill my commute if this one ended up on it as well.

Posts over on the Housemarque forums suggest that if sales are good enough there might be more content in the future, but they've also said that their sales 'could be better'. The structure of the DLC (including pricing, release dates and what's inside) was decided by the publisher, so it seems like Housemarque didn't have much say on what was added with the DLC. Like you said, I'd much rather have some more variety at end game, some new areas, more challenging content outside of the Ark ship and some more variety in weaponry. We'll have to wait and see but don't get your hopes up I guess.

The replayability factor would have been much higher if they'd had more random or procedurally generated levels. Most of the time it's just too monotonous. Especially after 40+ hours.

wow, at 10€ in the current eu psn digital sale, this game is an absolute steal!
tried it solo yesterday and couldn´t stop for about 3 hrs.

Bought this in the recent sale and loving it so far. Up to level 8 and only on the 4th mission. Running as a tank but gonna try a saboteur later tonight.

Just a quick question: If I were to join a randoms game, and they are a lower level than me, will the loot drops be locked to their level or is it based on the level I am?

I think it depends on the hosts level.
