Aliens vs Predator multiplayer demo incoming!

Shit.
I really wanted the console versions to get dedicated servers too... I probably will still get the Steam version eventually, but I'm not so sure about getting the console version anymore after seeing how horrendous this game's matchmaking can get...

Maybe this'll be a larger scale Turok (reboot). Where I will love it, but this time more people will be like me and the rest of the world will think it's an abomination.

Turok (reboot) gets unneeded hate and I'm still sad the sequel got canned.
Me too man :(

-edit- most people I play the demo with hate it, even the ones that were excited. Why oh why wasn't the demo a team game?

If it wasn't for the videos I've seen, I'd pass on it too. But knowing there are co-op survivial modes......hmm mmmmm.

Holy, shit, Derek Mears? He was the guy hired to play Jason in that Friday the 13th movie last year, and his physicality and presence were fucking awesome in that.

Imagine. You're a dude in your early thirties, and you get cast to play both Jason Voorhees and a Predator.

That's real wealth.

The guy was scared of walking by windows, thanks to F13th Part 2 and now he's Jason, and quite the Jason at that. Like you said, what a presence!

I really hope that he's playing a Predator in the movie. Man, Derek Mears IS living the dream.

Well, it said on that AVP site he is. I could see him playing one of those human commandos too.

Man, I really, really want to see a trailer for Predators, like, right now. I never thought I'd see a Predator sequel in my lifetime.

The most gratifying aspect is seeing people totally get into the species themselves and just get lost in the experience, even working together as teams even though it's not a team mode that's on offer."
Yeah you know what would have been even more gratifying? If your demo had been species/team deathmatch to begin with.

I do wonder if they did it on purpose, so that if you liked the demo even though it was free for all you could imagine how good it would be played properly. But, seems like kind of a backasswards way to go anyway.

"Had we left Create and Browse Games in there as with the full game the problem wouldn't have been so serious. Bottom line is we're really sorry to all those PS3 owners and are working as fast as possible to find a solution which will help them enjoy the demo too."
Hopefully the create and browse games option will be in the full game. I don't understand why having more options isn't always a good thing.

It might make it too easy, but...

Playing the Alien in third-person would fucking rock.

I don't think that would make it much easier at all, the alien can already see through walls, and in third person you'd likely see even in less in front of you.

Just a quick 30 second video of trying to kill a predator with a plasma caster in the middle of a hectic game.

the people i'm playing with on PC at least at this point all seem to be enjoying it, but that's hardly surprising. i'm sure enough alien/predator fans will pick it up given the franchise's pulling power, and of them, i'm sure most of them will like it once they realise how many modes and options there are.
How is he getting that many shots? I'm all out of energy after no more than 5... Unless the cannon consumes less energy if it doesn't fully lock-on.

On another note: is there some information out there regarding the Predator and when he doesn't get picked up by the Marine's motion radar? Been grabbed by a few without them being detected and I'm positive they didn't just spawn behind me at that point. I'm guessing that walking might make Predators 'invisible', but I'm doubting whether or not this is also the case with his standard running speed since the aforementioned approach is rather slow...

I bugged the hell out, when I quick killed a predator by knocking his mask off, and then using the Alien's tail to DRILL INTO HIS FACE!

The alien really needs a leap function. I can't believe the predators can leap while the aliens can only run on the walls.

you can leap from surface to surface, sometimes pretty good distance, try leaping from beam to beam in the ceiling of the large room, it works

I've also been able to leap from wall to ceiling and vice versa with no problem once I got the controls down

you can also leap attack by holding the focus button then press light attack

i don't think he's charging them... but i haven't played as predator so i honestly don't know. an uncharged shot can still stun an alien, meaning you can trophy kill them or get a free melee hit on them. or hell, charge up a cannon shot.

you see predator's spamming out shots in melee and it's something you have to be very wary of during meleeing a predator, just like the disk. at least with the spear you can see quite clearly that he's holding it once he's outlined.

as far as those predators grabbing you... they can sprint really fast, and without any kind of indicator telling you what people's pings are, if you're high latency and he's low latency, he'll have grabbed you before you'd have picked him up with the motion scanner.

even if you're both low latency... he can still sprint right up behind you and you only have a fraction of a second to react. also it's plausible he sprinted between 'tics' of the motion scanner.

Hold the focus button to lock on to someone, and press Light Attack.

Kinda works like the Pred's leap.

Shift (focus) + Spacebar

Or the above :P.

This is a little off topic but how has no one made a colonial marines motion sensor app for the iPhone? How cool would that be? Especially if it actually worked, using movement from the camera or something.

You've got some great videos man. Best quality gameplay videos out there.

To be fair, the motion detector usually picks up even sprinting Aliens on time, so I tend to believe there's some sort of trick involved with the Predator as he's slower than them. Might experiment later on, unless someone else finds 'it' out.

Is the online multi-player demo for PS3 broken?

Downloaded, jumped online, searching..............................................................Nothing,

Is there really no-one playing online?

I broke down and preordered AvP from Steam. Don't know if I'll ever get around to playing Universe at War, but slaughtering people in AvP is too much fun. Now, if I can only play as someone other than Marines. :(

You are a good alien. Would love to test my predator or marine against you. I tend to favor the disc as predator though, it gets so many people on the return to my hand, even more than it does going out. Most people tend to forget it comes back at some point. :lol

Its broken, they fucked up and still havent released a patch for the PS3 version.
Yea I just tried it, this shit pisses me off. If they don't fix it I really hope nobody buys the PS3 version.

Suddenly hearing an Alien's growl while recharging at one of those terminals as a Predator is frightening. Fortunately, I always plant a precautionary mine before activating it if possible.

Speaking of mines: I had a Marine freeze on the spot as soon as he heard one being thrown behind him the instant he picked up the Smartgun, not knowing its exact location. An Alien attempting to mow him down stepped on it shortly afterwards, effectively killing 'em both. Fun tool.

Just had a 2 on 2 and teamed up with my friend. Both aliens against 2 marines. Was so much fun working together. One sprinting by hissing while the other would stealth kill them while they were distracted trying to shoot me. Also finally got an acid blood kill that game. Haha!

When you see the reticule glow, press jump and you'll leap to wherever you're aiming. Also, holding focus will let you lock on to enemies and pressing light attack will let you lunge at them and attack. Reticule jumping has increased my alien playing 20-fold.

i find it easier to look for the extra notches. normally the line has one perpendicular notch, when you are near enough to jump to a surface it will have three.

oh hey, look it's me being stupid with predators. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7I1VevJBRo

sorry you can't really hear the narration. though maybe you think it's a good thing.

Personally, a giant glowing reticule is easier to see than 3 pixel thin lines, but that's just me.

ive been slacking off on getting the demo because of all of the negative impressions, but watching plagiarize's videos has me wanting to try it out asap.

great vids. im going to check out the pc demo tomorrow.

I had a 1v1 earlier today with him a Pred and me an alien. He won by two, but it was so much fun to screw with him. At one point he was sitting on a ledge convinced I was hiding in some corner, pot shotting plasma caster rounds over there, all the while I was about foot above his head watching.

Swift tale slam to the head didnt kill him, but made him jump off spinning round in circles (I could see his lock on lazer) on the ground below :lol.

Hissing at him was also good fun.

Hate coming from people who don't know how to play. I'm hooked. This game will be one of the best I play this gen. Can't wait to see some mods too

yeah, honestly there have been plenty of folks in this thread really digging the game. i hadnt even seen the game in motion until tonight though, just some screens (which looked pretty good).

im looking forward to checking it out. will DL in the morning asap.

Every once in awhile I'll die and respawn and the game will go from ~60fps to literally 4 - 5fps, forcing me to quit. Whatever bug causes that better be fixed in the retail release.

Haven't seen that and I've been playing all day on 360.
