The Border obviously uses SNES but I think emulator creators just took it upon themself to emulate what was needed to get them working.

It is literally just a bitmap that any emulator can grab from the ROM to use. It's no more complicated than that. Nothing additional needs emulating.
This is a really good article on how the SGB works and why not many games took advantage of it like DK '94 did:

Good timing! I just picked up a SGB2 on eBay and should be arriving next week. Awfully glad to learn about the Dragon Warrior backgrounds because that was the cart I wanted to play with it.

I never had a Super Gameboy, but I always wished I did. This thread is making me envious all over again.
I like the Mole Mania one.
Donkey Kong is my favorite.
These, the Kirby ones, and Link's Awakening were my favorites

I have the SGB (since i was 15 i think) but me and my sister only used it for the pokemon games. I should have bought WarioLand 2... but now that I've done a little research on the games that use SNES functionalities, I might get DK 94 or Space Invaders online somewhere.
