Amazing Infamous: Second Son gameplay video [Neon powers shown]

The first game was fantastic. A very enjoyable experience.

I completed the second and I was honestly let down. It felt like a bloated experience versus being more impactful and refined in the first game.

I really miss the shield from infamous 1. why do they remove it when enemy are still mostly range attack based.

other than that, infamous 1 also have more varied side mission, platforming are more used in there as well.

I like infamous 2, but it's too focused on combat, even the side mission is mostly go to destination and kill enemies.

we still haven't seen some kind of ultimate attack ala ionic vortex. I hope they still have it and each power will have their own ultimate attack.

ground pound is not an ultimate attack. imo
The Karmic Bomb (the one with him smiling at the peak) is on the same position as the most powerful weapon in Infamous 1 & 2.

The, what I believe is the, equivalent for Neon we saw very shortly before the end in the Fetch trailer.

There were also way too many side missions in the second game. It should always be quality over quantity.

We seen he Karmic bomb, and some of the neon ultimate attack as well.

which one is karmic bomb? the one he grins at the screen and do a more powerful ground pound? that's just to similar with the basic ground pound attack, rather disappointing if that's the ultimate attack. I hope there are others

what is neon's ultimate attack?

Not quite sure what to think. The game looks good but nothing has blown me away yet.

I liked the first but the second was pretty disappointing and also pretty short if i'm not mistaken (think I completed it in one playthrough).

Guess i'll wait till I see more of the game to decide whether I'll get it or not. I don't like how all the gameplay videos have been around the same area, would be nice to see the actual city for once.

Neon FX look absolutely gorgeous, but Sucker Punch's sound design continues to disappoint me. It's hard to hear in the video, but the visually impressive neon run is accompanied by a completely pedestrian buzzing sound that actually lessens the overall impact of the effect instead of complimenting it.

I found the sound design extremely weak in the first two games as well, for both primary sounds and secondary environmental sounds. Just not one of Sucker Punch's strengths.

I'm not a side quest kind of guy but I keep track of how much time I play games and Infamous 1 took me a little bit less than 10 hours and Infamous 2 was a little bit below 12 hours 30 minutes.

If I had to take a wild guess, knowing that there wont be ice or water powers, I would say 'Earth' is going to be one of the powers.

Earthquakes etc..

maybe something like

That might be right, because in the first gameplay footage Delsin was fighting enemy guards who were doing little 'earth' jumps similar to Cole's ice leap in the second game. There are parts in the trailer where you can see they leave a spike of earth where they jumped from.

Edit - here, at about 3:10 into the video you can see two soldiers with the earth leap ability.

Likin' what I've seen in this video even though I'm still not digging so much for Delsin.
Anyway I'm really hopin for a right mix beetween the first two games, the first favoured for the side missions (the sewers parts ruled) and the second one for the combat and the graphics, hope that sp guys will deliver the definitive infamous experience :D

People ran away because it's a combat zone.

Of course you can argue the 30+ pedestrians that you see running around in the start of the video is not representative of how dense a modern city is.

Yeah, I know it's a combat zone. But when he's fighting those bad guys it still feels empty. I hope they mix it up a bit and make it feel more alive.

The combat still looks terrible, the way he is running around at the start having trouble finishing any one guy off, shooting like he's got a gun not super powers and trying to melee while getting shot to pieces.

It just looks so damn good.

I thought the power switching was more of a press up on the dpad sort of thing, but i guess they are going to use those for supers, I'm ok with draining different sources for different power sets, frees up those buttons so that each set can have super moves etc.

those were the only side missions in inf1 that were good. all the others like the cctvs and escort missions were just repetitive. inf2 had better variety.

I played the Infamous game for the story. I hope this one is good as I don't like how they've retconned the events of the Second to give him powers.

Buying day 1.

I would've liked for him to have a better stance/animation when shooting his standard shots. He looks kinda stale.

Anyway... Thankfully I don't think we're gonna miss the ice jump that much with the options SP is giving us to traverse the area. Looks so fucking awesome.

Looks like they just made faster sprinting a super power. From the video it plays no different than the default smoke.

Not sure if I understand. From the videos we've seen, smoke allows you to teleport forward again and again (not sure for how long or if powers run out like the previous games), but Neon seems to let you run or "fly" continuously without short pauses (I think), unlike the smoke traverse.

EDIT: I think I misread what you said tbh.

The combat looks bland and so does the traversal system. I guess I'm picking this up just for the story.

I'm pretty sure there was an Ice Shield you could get towards the end of the game.
I generally loved 2 because the Ice Powers like the Ice Jump made platforming so much more fun.

I think I agree with you ,although only because I played Infamous 1 to death back then. I was much more impressed initially. If I had played the second before the first, I'd probably think otherwise though.

Anyway Second Son. Can't wait!

No, you read correctly.

The flying and sprinting from the neon looks like it could be easily added into upgraded movement skills for the smoke power. Instead of a short thruster glide for smoke, a longer and faster glide, instead of a short dash a longer dash etc...

I'm a little worried that the powers won't feel diverse enough. Other than traversal, he does the same shooting, and the same air drop for both neon and smoke. Maybe they just aren't showing some stuff yet which is fine, I just hope there's some diversity in the actual combat mechanics for the different powers.

Platinum'd 1 and 2 + DLC (100%). PS4 Purchased. Collector's edition preordered.

Neon power looks amazing. I am a little concerned at how it will control though - it seems so fast that it may be difficult to make the movements that you want.

Please show me a game that has cooler looking traversal than this game. I really want to see it. Because dashing around as plumes of fire and smoke, through air vents and up shafts etc, speeding around as neon light lightning fast up buildings and the like….I don't think I've ever seen cooler traversal in any game. I suppose Hulk and Spiderman are also pretty cool with the crazy high jumps and spider webbing….but still not as cool looking as this.

This is how the same traversal as in the OP looks with Smoke powers:

I think the traversal in Infamous is one of the best in any games, and this looks even better than the previous ones. Gravity Rush also had great traversal IMO.

Absolutely love the trails left behind in neon. After moving around the map and seeing your trails, it makes you realize just how fast you were really going

That's what I'm saying. How can anyone this this sort of traversal looks boring?

Plus this…

Don't know what to feel. Looks like I can mash my way to victory but I'm sure they are playing on God mode.
Surprised I'm not being sold on this even though I'm known to buy games just for the graphics. Hmmm?

Looks both incredible and annoyingly repetitive at the same time. Looking forward to seeing more areas and powers. The part they showed here would get old fast.

Love how fast you can get to anywhere you want, including up a building.

The only downside to this style of traversal IMO is that it feels very physically disconnected from the world. Infamous already has sort of a floaty, old-school physics feel to the character movement, and I would have liked it if the character felt/looked more physically connected to the wall when he was running up it.

I'm sure the approach they've chosen ultimately allows for more freedom and flexibility (i.e., the player not getting stuck to a particular surface for longer than they want to), but it would still feel more next gen to me if the animations had more grounded physicality.
