Fuck yeah.

Amazon customers made The Man in the High Castle the most watched pilot ever

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2015-- (NASDAQ: AMZN)—An intriguing tale about alternative history, a twisted story of friendship put to the ultimate test, a docu-series based on America’s most award-winning magazine, a kids series based on magic and another about being stinky and dirty—all coming exclusively to Prime Instant Video. Amazon today announced it has greenlit five new Amazon Original Series, including The Man in the High Castle, which is based on the Philip K. Dick alternative history novel; an hour-long dark comedy Mad Dogs; docu-series The New Yorker Presents; along with kids shows Just Add Magic, and The Stinky & Dirty Show. The new Amazon Original Series come from an acclaimed creative roster including Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files), Ridley Scott (Blade Runner), Cris Cole (The Good Times Are Killing Me), Shawn Ryan (The Shield), Alex Gibney (The Armstrong Lie), Joe Nussbaum (George Lucas in Love, Awkward), and Kate & Jim McMullan (I’m Dirty!). These new shows will premiere exclusively to Prime members in the US, UK and Germany later this year and in 2016.

As part of its unique development process, Amazon gives customers an opportunity to provide feedback on which pilots they want turned into series that are then available to Prime members. During pilot season, any Amazon customer in the US, UK, and Germany can watch, rate and comment on the pilots. At the end of pilot season, that feedback helps determine the shows that become an Amazon Original Series. To date, customers have helped Amazon greenlight 13 series including the multi-Golden Globe-winning show Transparent, which will return for a second season later this year.

“During the latest pilot season, Amazon customers made The Man in the High Castle our most watched pilot ever,” said Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios. “These new series, including our first docu-series, are some of our most ambitious to date and I’m looking forward to their premieres in the future.”

Amazon Original Series are available for Prime members to stream and enjoy through the Amazon Instant Video app for TVs, connected devices and mobile devices, or online at Amazon.com/originals, at no additional cost to their membership. Customers who are not already a Prime member can sign up for a free trial at www.amazon.com/prime.

The pilot for Man in the High Castle was simply amazing, even if a bit rough at times. High concept alt history done right. I cannot wait to watch the full show.

Paper or plastic?
I anticipate great things for The Man in the High Castle. Such a disturbing pilot. What I thought was done really well was the lack of clunky exposition. They tell you so much through visuals and drop hints through casual dialogue. So many shows and movies have difficulty doing this nowadays.

I even loved the
twist at the end of the episode
, and I generally despise twists.

I'm not surprised that The New Yorker Presents and The Man in the High Castle got greenlit, but I am surprised that Mad Dogs made the cut and not any of the other shows.

Man in the High Castle!

get

Despite being totally inaccurate and farcical, I wanted the Civil War show to be a thing. Pumped about the New Yorker show though, I dig short-form video content after switching to the Youtube TV life.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
Man in the High Castle was fantastic. It was kinda a given that it would get a full series.

I saw the first 10 minutes of Man in the High Castle and noped out of it to wait for the full season. It looked too good to watch the pilot and wait around months for the season.

Yea, I kinda wished that I did the same. It has the potential to be something really great and the wait is painful.

Watched both Mad Dogs and Man in the High Castle. While both were great and I am onboard for both...man I LOVED Mad Dogs.

That show left me with a big dumb grin. Love the style and the energy of it, such a great pilot.

Awesome! I didn't want to watch and get attached to MitHC if it wasn't going to get greenlit. Definitely going to give it a watch now.

Excellent. I loved the TMHC pilot. Not sure there was much doubt about a pick up after all the praise it received.

How long do you guys think until we get new episodes for The Man in the High Castle? Could this year be possible?

Next year at the earliest.

Mad Dogs did have the second highest rating and views -- maybe that does matter?

Yes! Though it didn't seem like it was in doubt. Hopefully they are able to maintain the pilot's style and feeling of dread throughout the season.

Is Mad Dogs an adaptation of the Sky one? I can't help but feel that remaking it with an American cast might somewhat miss the point of the title.

Nice to see Man in the High Castle finally get ordered to series. I held off on watching the pilot because I knew it'd get a full season and I didn't want to have to wait a year+ for the second episode.

Yes.

Yikes!

I thought MitHC was embarrassingly bad although the premise is fantastic. Hopefully the series will be much better. I also HATED Mad Dogs. I actually thought Salem Rogers was pretty funny. Meh.

Man in the High Castle was one of the stronger pilots I've seen in some time. Excited to see that it got ordered.

I still haven't watched Mad Dogs yet -- I'll wait until it comes out to series.

Man in the High Castle was brilliant, expected that to get greenlit. I kinda wish I waited until the full season was out before watching the pilot though.

I will admit, I've never read the Man in the high castle, and know very little outside it's praise.

Doesn't it have no signular main character and just a collection of stories that somehow connect or am I wrong?

I would say there's a few main characters. Or at least it seemed that there were 3 specific ones from the pilot so far.

Wow I'm surprised that MITHC is held in such high regard here. I watched the pilot and it left me underwhelmed. Especially the acting left a lot to be desired. I had high hopes for he material :/

Yay, I really enjoyed the Man in the High Castle pilot. The setting is great. I will probably end up reading the book before the rest of the season is produced as I love Dick. Philip K. Dick.

Can someone give me a basic overview of the man in high castle's pilot? Nothing too detailed. I've read the book and found it quite boring overall. People told me previously it was following it somewhat closely.

MITHC was indeed pretty good. A few parts were clunky but I chalk that up to really having to overuse greenscreens really. Otherwise it seems intriguing. I've not read the book it's based on but it probably had some changes in the adaption, which is fine by me.

Mad Dogs was ... alright. Kinda meandered for a while for most of the run, but was fine. It has a lot of promise in where it wants to go but I wish the pilot had maybe a bit more life in it during the middle parts.

East Coast, male lead (forget their names) says he wants to spy for America, take it back from the Nazis. The local spy ring tell him to drive a truck to the neutral zone, on the way there it paints the sense he's legit. He finds the film can under his truck at the border of Nazi states/neutral zone.

West Coast, female lead's half sister is killed in front of her after she hands her the film reel. She watches it through the whole night; her fiance tells her to hand it in, maybe the Japanese will be lenient. She takes the ticket her half-sister has and heads for the neutral zone, bumps into the male lead. At the very end the twist is that the male lead is actually working for the Nazis.

Other plot points include the Japanese emperor's son and wife visiting, obvious tensions b/w Nazis and Japanese, etc. That's mostly it.
