Amazon locked my account because of "unsual activity"

Which is bullshit, but they won't unlock and ship my PS5 to me (bought in September, nothing else bought since) unless I provide them with billing statements.

Has anyone had to go through this unlocking procedure before? Any tips?

Any tips...
Provide them with the billing statements (I presume this means your confirmation email) or if they mean your CC statement you can grab that from your bank online pretty easily no? Whats the issue providing that?

Call 1800 Amazon or whatever their number is
But I would check your order history and make sure everything you see is what you ordered. Also change your password and enable OTP/2FA

Why should I give Amazon access to my financial statements? I can't prove it's me through a myriad of other ways

Block out everything that is not your name, address, credit card number and the line showing your purchase...you wouldn't be providing them anything you haven't already. You don't HAVE to do this. They don't HAVE to sell you this.
Have you asked *by phone not by email* if they have any alternative confirmation and if you have and if this is the only one available to you then you'll have to decide.

You sure this is not from a fishing website? Rather sounds like it tho when you describe it...

It's not spam. I can't login to my account. Countless other people on the Net have had this issue too, so I'm not worried about being phished

Then do whatever they say and hope they unlock it. I have personally never heard of this happening to anyone tbh. Where are you supposed to send the billing statememts to? Is it an official Amazon email?

1. It's so hard to communicate with someone directly at Amazon

2. I can't remember exactly how I paid my deposit. I think it was ZIP pay or Afterpay but I can't remember exactly

The only case where they lock your account and ask for that is if you chargeback the money through your bank or use a stolen card to pay. There is no way around it, if you don't provide the info you'll never be able to access your account. As for communication, you can use the live chat.

Well yes...it'll take a little time to get a human, try live chat. As for the other, I've never dealt with jank ass payment methods but it's likely part of the problem. Presumably it doesn't take much effort to log into zip and afterpay and check?

Amazon deleted my account once for no reason until I changed my password then they were like "welcome back!"

Tell us your login credentials so we can look into it and try to fix it for you.

Managed to find their complaints line, which they've hidden oh so well and spoke to someone.

I'm in Australia by the way

Strange, I've never heard about this happening to anyone else.

Though recently my sister did tell me she was blocked from leaving reviews. Somehow her reviews were phished but her account and credentials were fine. They left a butt ton of reviews on random merchandise and now she can't leave reviews on anything, lmao.

This actually has happened to me before. Its usually when you change addresses or update payment methods on your account...its quite random.

I ordered my nieces some barbies and set the address to my older brothers address since he was in the next state and they immediately cancelled the prders, refunded the charges, and locked me out until i showed them something proving i was real. I think I showed them a credit card statement like theyre asking you to do(it was almost a year ago when we were xmas shopping.

They'll unlock it once you provide the proof. Hopefully they didnt cancel your order cause that warning they give says theyre gonna cancel all pending orders smh

Unusual activity may mean someone has logged in or trying to log in from another country, for example.

As someone said. Change your password and call them.

Yeah I'm super worried about my order being cancelled. It just said everything's on hold for now

Should I be worried?

I did a Google search and it's pretty common

Amazon locks my personal and business account routinely when I forget and buy digital credit (PSN/Google/Apple/Steam cards) for testing or whatever. Apparently there is CRAZY high fraud with those. It happened last year and I did it again last month when not thinking about it I bought a few $100 psn digital cards.

I just buy those at BestBuy.com now. I had to call amazon, prove who I was, and they were both unlocked within 10 minutes.
I have never been asked for "Statements" though.

Ah, I was referring to people I actually know. I believe it, you find practically every example for anything via Google, haha.

I know, but if it's scam territory you normally find out very quickly

All it usually takes is a cursory Google search and you can know one way or the other pretty well instantly

Or at worst, a teensy bit of digging

People tend to be loudest when they've been fucked over

one time i added another (wasnt mine) i activated prime then bought a 200 bucks watch and got the lock, i provided the cc statment and a day later they released the purchase and everything was fine.

The net it's full of horror stories of impossible-to-reach customer service, between Amazon, Google and Apple.
Once you get this big, you can afford ignoring a couple hundred thousand paying customers behind a flawed but unstoppable automated system.

What are you going to do anyway? Buy elsewhere? Lol.

That said, feel for you man, I would be furious too. I try to avoid amazon as much as i can because they're becoming shittier every day, and items cost the same as other places anyway.

did you receive a confirmation email for ur order? shouldn't that be the end of it?

When they reinstated my account from the non existent fraud which was a cluster fuck on their part, they cancelled all my existing orders because reasons

Yes, I have a confirmation email of my (now cancelled) order

Op, did you change payment method recently after ordering the PS5? Maybe this was it.

It's fucking horseshit.

They send you an email saying your order is on hold while they "investigate" the "fraud" on your account

Then they just go and cancel everything for no fucking reason

But good news, your account is up and running again!!!

SO FUCKING ANNOYED

I had my Amazon account locked for using an auto-refresher to hammer their site to buy both the PS5 and the XBOX SERIES X. I've been a customer since 2002 though (and spend good money with them) so they unlocked it pretty quickly.

I did change very shortly after ordering in September to take advantage of an offer

No reason to fuck me over 2 months later

Check your orders, make sure nothings been archived etc, and do as TheContact TheContact suggests and change your password and set up 2-factor on your account using something like Google Authenticator or Lastpass Authenticator on your phone. The telltale that your accounts been compromised is amazon gift card purchases and or PSN codes.
