AMAZON US Switch up

Sort of out of the loop here, are pre-orders not available yet, or are they out of stock? I've checked most of the major retailers here

Yep, it is right. There seem to be two downsides, the d-pad doesn't look very good, and it's wired. But for half the price I doubt most people would care.

Considering that the Pro controller isn't available in the US yet, imagine if that Hori controller was available, they would be selling tons of them. Missed opportunity. Or maybe they are contractually obligated to wait.

We need a Walmart employee to confirm this, I saw the same sign today too and went to a few Walmarts and found one still taking preorders the manager at that location told me it was for guaranteed unit and they could only take a certain amount of pre orders which kinda makes sense since the 3 walmarts i went to prior to that one but then again I wouldn't trust them too much.

No not really. If you read other threads on Gaf there are many places in Europe where you can walk into a game store and walk out with a pre order of either the grey or neon Switch. Same for Japan except Amazon.


It's predicting which regions will habe the most demand that's a pain for Nintendo to do.

People keep forgetting that 2 million is worldwide, and not even for launch but for the whole month of March (so less than 2 million on launch divided for all the countries).

On top of that the Neon SKU was not known until after the presentation, and stores did not have allotment numbers for it like they did for the grey one since before the presentation, and it ended up being just a few extra Neons per store, nothing substantial.

Fair enough. I know nothing about logistics. 2 million is not a small amount but seems that way for a console release targeting multiple regions at once.

I actually went ahead and pre-ordered at my local Walmart today and I asked several employees repeatedly if it was a guaranteed unit, to which all of them answered yes. There was even another kid behind me who also pre ordered and asked the sams. Apparently I can just go on launch date and pick up, guaranteed. Hopefully I didnt screw myself up by trusting Walmart.

They also said their pre-orders end on 01/23. This is in the northeast. I have a buddy in Tampa who went to his local walmart and they told him they ended pre orders on Friday there and were sold out.

If the cable is long enough for most households it'll be a steal. It would be a shame if it's wired and it's a short cable as well.

I don't know if I'd care too much for gyro (which I'll turn off in Zelda) or HD rumble. I can use joycon plus grip charger to have those features. But it'd be nice to have another option that seems to be better for bigger hands.

Yeah, and even if you want those features on your main controller, this could be good for people who want extra controllers for multiplayer. The dock has two usb ports so it would be possible.

EDIT: damn, almost half the price of the Switch on an sdcard. I'll stick with my 64GB. Plan to go physical for all posible games.

same here i had to go to a few to get mine in texas, definitely confirmed with a manager too. they were just putting up signs for it at my walmart. Did yours have the option for neon? mine did not

Lots of people responding to your second sentence, but to answer your first, you are right, Amazon hasn't had the Neon Switch for sale yet.
 
I have no idea where to properly discuss this stuff anymore but Best Buy finally added a bunch of the official stuff to preorder in the US. They had listings for a bunch of stuff but until today it was marked as "coming soon". So if anyone wanted the official case from nintendo they have it.
 
Don't know where else to ask this, but does anyone have the dimensions of the Switch?

I'm not really feeling any of the official cases out there right now, and I'm considering picking up the Gear Pouch Large from Waterfield instead which is like 11.5" by 6" with 4 internal pockets..I'm sure that is big enough but I want to see if I can drop down to the medium (which is 10 by 5.3).

Ughhhhh, the charging grip still isn't available. Wonder what the hold up is there.
 
Sorry for the oddball question but are there any images of what the Switch game cases look like? More importantly how they look inside? I'm just really curious if Nintendo is done using those evil eco cases.

I haven't seen the inside of the cases, but they were probably shown at the one of Treehouse videos.

Edit: Thought you also wanted to see the game carts.

The medium size should be able to fit the Switch albeit a bit snug, but be warned that the Waterfield Gear Pouch, while absolutely fantastic, has little to no padding protection. It'll be fine as a case to keep at home or for very light travel, but I wouldn't use it for anything beyond that such as being stuffed in a crowded bag or constantly being knocked around.

If you want to be on the safe side, spring for the large size and add some of your own padding.
 
I just cancelled my Switch pre-order. Couldn't justify the cost with nothing coming out until Mario. Already had Splatoon and Mario Kart on Wii U.
 
People! Please STOP cancelling your pre-orders! They don't just go back out into the wild. Help out gaffers who are trying to get a pre-order. Especially Amazon. It's super easy to change the address to a gaffer's address and they can paypal you the $$.

This isn't about me. I already have a pre-order locked in. But lots of people are trying to secure one.

Yeah the lack of padding has me worried. Wish I knew if the Switch could fit the padded gear pouch but considering the length of the Switch seems about the same as the gamepad, I doubt it would fit. I'm too impatient to wait for dimensions. =p interesting idea on adding my own padding. I'll have to consider that.

Speaking of which, I have a gray and a Neon console already preordered from amazon. I'm still debating which one I'll eventually get, surprisingly. Sooner or later though I must make the decision for one console and I'll give another gaffer my pre order if they like if no one else wants it from real life friends.

However, two things must be noted:

1) The Neon version is from amazon france (I've said this like 5 times in this thread but I need to be especially clear here) and chances are this is the one I'll keep.

2) Some reports are stating that changing a preorder might make the switch arrive later than march 3rd, so be warned.

I'll make the decision next week, but until then, anyone interested?

EDIT: My offer is already taken, sorry everyone else.

This is a good point i didn't think of. Just be careful when dealing with online transactions people. I'd like to think that problem wouldn't occur on gaf but anything can happen.

We have a BST thread over at the Community Subforum with a very robust feedback system set up. If anyone is worried about getting scammed but want to help someone get their Switch instead of outright cancelling their order, they can always go there and sell it; that way you're helping a fellow GAFfer out in the safest way possible :)

I've bought and sold from other gafers many times, never ran into an issue. And in this case with the pre-order you'd be the seller, so you don't have to worry since you'll receive full payment before changing the address on your order. There is virtually no way for the buyer to scam you. The reverse is possible though, so buyers need to be a little more careful I guess, but the length of time a user has been a member is usually a good indicator that you can trust them, also check the B/S/T feedback database.
