GameStop doesn't charge you until the item ships
Dang, missed out on this one. I'm hoping to get my preorder through Amazon since I have an Amazon store card which gives me 5% cash back, or $15 in the case of a Switch. I have a preorder locked in for local pickup at Best Buy now, but still hoping Amazon puts it up again soon.
Still not sure I'm even keeping the preorder but might as well get one put in so I have a month and a half to think about it.

Went to sleep at 12 AM PST......salty as hell right now, my last hope is the neon switch, come on amazon...
I am with you on that. Did the same exact thing. I was really hoping Amazon would do the Amiibo/NES Classic thing of announcing when they were going to put them up so everyone had a fair shot. I guess their site dying like I had never seen Amazon die before during the NES Classic nightmare made then rethink that strategy...

Love how i have email alerts turned on for the Switch on Amazon and got no email from them saying that pre-orders are live.

I had the Amazon alerts on, set my phone super loud, and went to bed. It worked for me, but I know some here are saying otherwise. Woke up, preorder the grey (even though I'm going to cancel if I can get a neon), and went back to bed.
Edit: ACTUALLY. It was an email from Travelocity that happens to hit at 2am and say "Open ASAP" LOL what luck!

They always send those like a day late. Used them once and never again.
Likely is an authorization for the full amount that will drop off after a few days. They did that with my NES Classic preorder.
Use NowinStock.net.
Email alerts never work on Amazon with stuff like this. They must have to manually set them to send, because with high demand items they either come really late or don't trigger at all. The console seemed to be up for like an hour and a half too, so it sucks it didn't send the alert.

I got one on Gamestop with zero issues? Like I just went to their Switch section, pre-ordered the grey joycon system for $299, and got guaranteed two day delivery. No hassles, or freezes or anything. Unless I'm missing something, this was the easiest piece of Nintendo hardware I've ever ordered.

So those that scalp will easily return them if supply keeps coming back
It is a Nintendo Console. Unfortunately, scalpers are going to have no problem selling these for the first few weeks.

GameStop charges when they process the order. This can occur up to a week before they ship it so just keep an eye out.

I wonder if Gamestop's site is indicative of how they'll sell the consoles in stores. You can't buy a neon switch by itself online, which is really frustrating.

Looks like Best buy is still adding stores for instore pickup. A store or 2 just popped up when I tried to select a store to preorder. Otherwise the preorders are sold out for 250 miles around me.

Same. Ordered a neon Switch without anything bundled from GameStop.
I didn't get charged anything yet. And I didn't get forced into some shitty bundle with a bunch of stuff I didn't want either, which is uncanny for Gamestop. Just the system and free two-day shipping. Since amazon charges sales tax in my state, it would have been the exact same price there.

Me too. I got the neon one minutes before people were saying they were gone, and I just happened upon it.

Tried the grey one at gamestop and it said there were out when I tried to check out. Tried neon and it worked.
