Hahaha. I feel a bit guilty because I got a Gamestop neon bundle pre-ordered and I'm looking to switch to an Amazon neon bundle when/if it pops up.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were re-purposing hardware from the Wii/Wii U ones.I haven't seen it for sale anywhere yet. But all of HORI's planned accessories got leaked a few days before the big Switch conference. We had a thread about it somewhere.
I'm assuming it plugs into 1 of the 3 available USB ports on the dock.
My question is, is it USB 2.0 like both the Wii and Wii U USB Ethernet adapters or is it USB 3.1?
Not out of the box, I'm not sure it's a foregone conclusion that it won't though. It might be possible with a USB-C to HDMI adapter but we don't know how the system would respond to such a cable until someone tries it out.
This has sort of become a catch-all topic for preorder discussion while people wait for the neon to go up, but as many people have stated, you're probably better off using another service like http://www.nowinstock.net/videogaming/consoles/nintendoswitch/ if you want to be notified when it's in stock.

WTF. So Nintendo really expects us to all huddle around a tiny little screen if I want to play multiplayer on a portable console?
Or do they live in a fantasy land where all my friends also own Switches?
Hopefully an adapter is all that's needed.

You don't need the dock to play multiplayer...
You do if you intend to play local multiplayer and have it display on a television set which appears to be what they're complaining about.
It's pretty clear Nintendo's pretty darn naive and out-of-touch when it comes to multiplayer experiences. "Take your Nintendo Switch and pass out your second Joy-Con to a stranger on a street corner." "Take your Nintendo Switch to your local bar and have a good ol' time hosting a multiplayer session huddled around a 6.2 inch screen!"
Hopefully there's a way to circumvent the dock, but some reports have already said it's proprietary in how the signal is addressed.

My daughter just told my wife and I that she wants a Nintendo Switch for her birthday, March 6. I'm fucked. No one is accepting pre orders anymore.
I'm curious. How old is she?
Try the Gamestops in the area. Amazon also hasn't put up their neon preorders yet so I'm assuming those will be available sometime between now and launch.
Also, Newegg hasn't put up preorders yet either.
I kind of regret cancelling my Best Buy preorder now because I would've been happy to pass it on to you.

Turning 8. She plays on the Wii U just about everyday. She regularly plays Minecraft, Minecraft Story Mode, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World.
My daughter is so fucking cool. She's gonna break hearts one day. She loves video games, Pokemon, Star Wars and football.
Awesome. I set up to be notified for both versions. She prefers the neon one though.

So I'm looking to preorder the following things in prep for launch day.
1: System with neon controllers (why else would I be in this thread)
2: Memory card (bigger the better- looking at 200gig)
3: System Case
4: Extra charge cable (for next to the bed)
Looking for suggestions about which case I should get. I am leaning toward

I'm having a hard time not flipping my table at your comment. My first reaction is that it just sounds incredibly entitled. You can play it in the dock on the TV or on the go on the mobile screen. You can totally play local multiplayer on the small screen (which people at the event said was great) but if you know you want to plug it into another TV, take the dock with you, like you would any other console you're going to connect to a TV.
Took the plunge, ordered the Neon console from amazon.fr.
Surprisingly the price did not vary that much, But I am anxious now because of the arrival time. I think I can wait one more week for the console version I am looking for, rather than being paranoid about missing out a preorder from Amazon US.

Have you tried going to a Wal-Mart? Some stores are still taking pre-orders.
You should look into the Hori Tough Case for the Nintendo Switch if you're concerned about the PDP cases. A couple of PDP cases look amazing, but they seem to sacrifice protection and durability.
Aside from that, maybe the Hori Compact Stand might be useful if you ever intend to use the tabletop mode? There's also the Hybrid Cover from Power A which seems crucial if you're going to largely use the portable function of the system.

I've called all the gamestops and best buys, but that's all. It's hard for me to go to places, because I'm always with my daughter. My wifes and In N Out Manager, so her schedule is crazy, and I have a normal office schedule, which makes me the always on duty parent. Not that I'm complaining. Our schedules also allow for me to game a lot at home, and not feel guilty, lol.

I would wait for Waterfield Designs' Switch case. They made hands down the best 3DS cases.
With the news that the cartridges are read only I'll probably have to get an SD card too.
In the middle east, but I have forwarding addresses for both France and the U.S.
From personal experience the U.S. shipments are faster and more reliable but the Neon console is right there in front of me. So I chose to switch my preorder.

Heh, I'm in the middle east too, and also have forwarding addresses in the US and France (shopandship.com by any chance?). I was hoping Amazon (from any country) would directly ship the Switch to my country (as they do with many other consoles), so that way I know how much I'm paying for customs tax upfront, but sadly none of them ship the Switch overseas, so gotta go blind with the forwarding service.
I'm also worried what if the Switch from France will have French language only (like Japanese 3DS for example), even if it plays games from any region, that would suck.
I'm honestly surprised someone is facing the exact problems I'm having in this thread. And yes I am using shop&ship. That shit is convenient as hell.
EDIT: My french isn't too shabby as i was able to navigate the french site with ease, setting up the system and changing configurations should not be a problem at all for me. But yeah I hope they give us the option to change languages.
I think it depends on the case. But most I've seen show the joy-cons connected.

Sony and Microsoft must be pretty dam naive too, Dam them for making me lug around my PS4 and XBox One if I want to play local multiplayer with friends on a TV. Come on man... Has GB, GBC, GBA, DS, or 3DS ever let you play local multplayer without having your friends need their own consoles? No. The Switch is a Hybrid, if you want the home console TV experience you need the dock, if you want the handheld experience then your friends will need their own Switch. I dont know how you can call them naive when Tabletop mode for multiplayer is a bonus experience that would not be possible if they built the Switch as strictly a handheld or strictly a home console. Not to mention Nintendo is pretty much the only one who actually cares about local multiplayer nowadays.

Thanks. Not really feeling the hybrid cover as it wont protect the joycons. I like the easy "clamshell" style cover but I think a regular case would be better for my usage as this thing probably wont ever leave the house, just be used throughout.
My 3ds and vita both use the animal crossing pouches that were nintendo rewards one year which have been my favorite cases.
Oh please, don't take my post out of context. I'm not complaining about the dock nor the local experience since they're not isssues for me personally. It is naive though that Nintendo's advertising the local multiplayer functionality of the Switch as convenient and something to share with complete strangers and/or in convoluted situations when the reality couldn't be further from that. It's great when other Nintendo Switch consoles are present, cumbersome otherwise.
Sony and Microsoft don't advertise their consoles as portable, let alone something convenient to share with friends and strangers in any given situation... so I don't see the comparison at all.
It really depends on your personal use cases for the system. I'm very much looking forward to playing local multiplayer with my coworkers during lunch, and I rarely need my 3DS' battery to last beyond 3 hours. Plus I'm way more likely to finish games in portable consoles than in home consoles, so I'm super excited that they're marketing it as a portable console and it's not just a gimmick - it's pretty much the perfect combination for me. In fact, if there was no dock at all I'd want it just as much, 3-hour battery life and all.

Poor choice of using the word "technically" then, that word is used for the exact opposite purpose he's trying to use it for. If today was February 28th and Switch was releasing on March 1st, it would technically be next month
Oh, I love the portable aspect of the Switch, and will be using it solely as a portable since the home console experience doesn't meet my interests all that much when it concerns Nintendo these days. I can understand though why others would have an issue with certain aspects surrounding the dock and the current message Nintendo is sending about local multiplayer.
Many people have complained that the tabletop mode is cumbersome and hard to see at a marginal distance even when playing alone. It's better than nothing, sure, but hardly something people will want to do in a group of two or more.
The ideal local multiplayer experience will be with others who own a Switch themselves; carrying the dock around isn't practical, but it's not a massive issue either. People still have a right to point out that it's annoying to have to bring the dock to a friend's house in order to display the Switch on a TV should said friend not own one themselves.
Hopefully an adapter can circumvent the issue, but if not, it's a valid complaint when Nintendo claims the Switch is convenient to share with everyone in all modes all the while being portable.
