AMAZON US Switch up

Thanks for the heads up! I love how fast Amazon JP global shipping is to get to US.

I preordered through Amazon JP as well. I paid $72.00 after 3% overseas fee. I got in on the deal at 6900 Yen. Now it looks like they jacked the price up to 7500 yen. It is also worth noting it's the number one sold accessory for Nintendo Switch on Amazon JP right now.

Whew! Glad I got in under the wire. I got my Discover card to register to my Amazon Japan account (no foreign fees) but couldn't actually use it on my order for some reason. Would like to use Amazon US for both quicker release and Amex 10% cash back on Amazon (promo rate).

Hell yeah. I hope my US switch will let me have the Japanese voices in this.

Any idea if there's a difference between the two versions?

Supposedly we can change the system's language on the fly which will determine a game cartridge's actual region, but I think that's a bit too weird even for Nintendo. I'd like to think the cartridge's manufacted region will stay play a factor if you want Japanese audio or interface.

I don't know if there's any changes in Puyo Puyo Tetris between the versions since it's really not my sort of game, but it's probably the usual differences if there's English or Japanese audio attached. Can't imagine censorship going on in the game, but stranger things have happened. Again, don't know much about it to say.

I think the price is still the same and Amazon.co.jp didn't raise it.

I ordered a few hours ago. And *i think* hours ago the Pro Controller was still 7,538 yen on Amazon.co.jp's page when I ordered it, BUT when I placed and finalized my order it was reduced to 6,980 yen plus 1,092 yen for shipping.

I think the 6,980 to 7,538 yen difference is just somesort of TAX or VAT, that automatically get's taken off after you enter a U.S. address, or probably just an international address outside of Japan.

Yeah hoping it's the same (dual language support would be sweet). On that Amazon.JP link though, it seems to list to SKUs of the game for the Switch, but for the same price? unsure whats up

Ah, okay, gotcha.

People really think this will be hard to buy? Or is this just GAF?

Plenty to go around.

They want to sell a boat load not just to hardcore gamers.

No offense but were you born yesterday?

Hardware selling out at launch and being hard/impossible to find for weeks or months is not that uncommon, moreso when it's by Nintendo. People who want to make sure to have one at launch without last minute hunting and uncertainty are wise to secure a preorder.

I preordered one hours ago shipped withing Tokyo and my order shows 7,538. So it's not related to international address...

Yeah, I don't know what that's about. Usually it's some extra little bonus thing they throw in but it's slightly more expensive. The first item in the SKU list supposedly is Limited Edition (First Press).

No idea what that entails bonus wise, but seems like it's bound to become unavailable after enough orders which will then default it to the second SKU which is the normal package.

Do we know the controller limit that can connect to the system? Is it 4 joycons? Does a pair of joycons count as a single controller? So I can use 4 pairs of joycons?

Would greatly appreciate it if someone can clear the confusion.

Yes, and here ya go:

Link

I can't find anything on amazon.jp other than the console it self, can you please link me colored joycons? same colored pair red and blue.

If possible, please link me a page with the accessories available.

I can't find a same colored pair, but they do have the Neon Blue & Neon Red pair. You can find that by clicking this link.

As for the entire accessory page, you can click this link for that.

So that pro controller is like $70 shipped to the US on Amazon Japan, but it's supposed to retail for $70 in the US anyways?

Ah, going for the first one then. Might be the preorder bonus package that includes those keychains

Might lock in a preorder then on Amazon Japan. Do they charge now or when they ship?

When they begin to process the order for shipping, so usually the same day it'll actually get sent out. There was one instance where I was charged about two days before it actually shipped, but it pretty much works the same way as Amazon US and other regions as far as I know.

Maaaan ordering the pro controller is super tempting but I'm still holding onto hope that it will show up on Best Buy so I can pre-order it with the Visa Checkout deal..

Haha it was actually on my cart for 6980 jpy but I vacillated over buying it until I clicked a new tab and looked at the item again --saw it went up to 7500 jpy. It was then I decided to jump on it, and I'm glad I got it for 8072 yen total (no foreign transaction fee).

EDIT right now it's 7538 jpy, so if anyone wants it better get it soon!

This your first Nintendo hardware launch?

No offense but were you born yesterday?

I think you guys are still traumatized by the Wii launch, when it was incredibly hard to find one for months and months and months. But that is the exception. Gamecube, ds, ds lite, wii u, 3ds, 3ds xl, 2ds, new 3ds, new 3ds xl were all possible to find in stores in the weeks after their launch. Even the Wii U, which launched right before black friday, was still on shelves continually in the Christmas shopping window - and you'd assume demand would be much higher than for a March release.

Correct, but with up to 20 hours of battery life it shouldn't be a problem as long as you dock them on the system in the dock when you're not playing.

And you answered my next dumb question. Yeah that's fine.
This is the thread for general switch info/questions, right?

How come the Switch Pro controller is not up for preorder on Amazon?

Amazon is waiting for you to go to sleep or otherwise be unable to get to a computer.

In all seriousness it hasn't been made available in the U.S. yet at ANY retailer. If you want one order through Amazon Japan before it sells out. Who the fuck knows why.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Pro Controller on Amazon Japan. I went ahead and pre-ordered there. I can't believe it's actually going to be cheaper to buy it there instead of the US! Even when it goes up in the US I might just keep this order.

And if anybody in the US is wondering, their shipping to the US is fast. It probably won't get to you by launch day but I've had stuff get from there to me (eastern US) in 2-4 days. Here their stuff arrives via DHL and they will generally send you a text message to either waive the signature requirement, reschedule delivery, etc. a day before it's scheduled to arrive. That may vary by region, though.

Based on the footage seen on Bomber Man R, it's safe to assume that up to 8 joy-cons can be connected to the switch. (They connect 6)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoFjV_hmgw0

I haven't found any solid information about how many controllers can be connected, so I thought of sharing this, might be helpful to some.
I remember the conference they said and showed 8.

It has a point talked since, even as a negative. (i. e. "only 8?").

going to hold off on the pro controller. Want to give the Switch controller a shot and possibly save $70.

I was in that boat until I read impressions that said playing with the Joy-con grip felt like you were playing a game on a graphing calculator. I think I'm going to get two Joy-con straps and dual-wield. I heard some people preferred that to the pro controller anyway.

EDIT: Here it is...
The default Switch control scheme docks both of the "Joy-Cons" – essentially shortened Wiimotes – into a plastic shell called the Joy-Con Grip. You've probably seen the photos and thought "wow, that looks like it might make for an awkward hold." And it does. The buttons and joysticks are smaller and tighter than the PlayStation Dualshock or the Xbox controller, and the excess plastic on the bottom juts into your hands in a pretty unsatisfying way. It feels like a calculator masquerading as a gamepad – and just like the Wiimote and Nunchuk, the Joy-Con Grip won't likely be your preferred medium to digest more conventional games like Skyrim or Super Mario Odyssey. It's not awful, and it certainly won't go down in the Bad Controller Hall of Fame with the Power Glove and "The Duke" – the original Xbox's first controller – but it doesn't make a great first impression.

Pretty odd considering I've read and seen a lot of impressions stating the grip was just as good as the Pro controller and largely invalidated it besides for the lack of a proper D-Pad. Naturally, it's all a matter of preference, but I think this one bit is more of an exception rather than the rule.

I've also heard good things about dual-wielding the Joy-Con as a control device since it's not as finicky as the Wii-Motes.

I just got a weird notification on my phone from the Amazon app, it said "We're sorry Nintendo Switch 32GB... is out of stock. Please look at other products..." (Not exact wording, what I remember from it)... For a moment I thought they cancelled my order or something. I clicked on the notification and it opened the app and showed me a bunch of Switch products. I checked my order and it's fine.

Maybe it has to do with the email alert notification triggering something.

That happened to me too, but i don't have email notifications set or have an order placed. It's pretty weird.

Came in here to ask about that, also got app notification but checking my order it seemed fine. Not sure what's going on.
