all Google did was clarify a section of their dev agreement.

Is it? I'm not sure how that prevents an instant video app on the play store.all? that is a big change
The biggest change I see is removing 'primary'.all? that is a big change

Apple has the same limitation and Amazon provides an instant video app on iOS.it prevents Amazon (or anyone else) from having an 'Android App Store' App on the Play Store.

This will make everyone buy firetv for sure.
That's not really the point, Amazon brings the value of a massive physical distribution chain, chromecast and Apple TV bring a digital distribution chain. Amazon wants a better deal when it comes to transactions on those digital distribution systems.
1) Open Amazon Appstore.
2) Search Prime Video.
3) Install.
Lots of hoops there.
The one in the play store says its for Google tv and hasn't been updated in a year. It's clear they want you to download the Amazon App Store.Amazon provides an instant video app on Android as well.. on Amazon.com
or for Google TV![]()
Not sure if you don't know what you are talking about or being intentionally obtuse.
How do i install Amazon app store?
Go to amazon, find and download the apk for their appstore
Get it on my phone.
Go into my security settings to enable 3rd party applications.
Install the apk
Open the app store
search prime video
install
This allows you to use a shitty service. Thats a lot of hoops for not a lot of payoff and something i would say 95% of phone users won't do
i hear that many Verizon phones come with the Amazon app preloaded. cuts down massively on that list of steps for most Americans.

If so, then there you go. You still need to enable 3rd party apps to be installed unless Verizon allows that by default as well... but that would be pretty ballsy by Verizon to open up such a gigantic security hole in every one of their customer phones.
well, i haven't used one in person to say that it does this for sure, but pre-installed apps can have special privileges that allow them to bypass the unknown sources check.
if i install the app store myself, when i want to download another game/app i have to make sure the security setting is enabled. I did this recently with Instant Video, so i knowi had to re-enable 3rd party apps after i disabled it when i was done installing the app store thinking that the rest would bypass it... i was wrong.
Oh god, we'll never see usable interfaces for prime video on other devices![]()
Just the opposite.Fire TV must be failing something fierce
They sell Roku's, etc, so it's more nuanced than that.Translation- we don't want to sell competing products.

Roku isn't a big competitor in the 'media and services provider' category. Google and Apple are.
Amazon could easily get slapped with an antitrust suit over this. Honestly, since their devices suck, and this is a shitty thing to do, I'm kinda rooting for it.
Yes, but Apple and Google are not exactly small companies. If they cared enough, they could very easily go after Amazon for anti-competitive/anti-trust behavior on this. It's pretty clear cut misuse of their market domination in online retail to harm competitors.Amazon has good lobbyists in D.C. and has had them for a lot longer than Apple. I.e., see the collusion government lawsuit against Apple and the book publishers.
Roku not having their own streaming/VOD service is why I see Amazon allowing them to stay.

Amazon being anticompetitive? Does this mean the DOJ is going to investigate Apple again?
I care about it in that I pay for Prime and I want to have access to what I pay for in a convenient way
Amazon has literally no one to blame but themselves. They've had years to make an AppleTV/Chromecast app and they haven't
depends on how many companies Apple colludes with to raise prices for consumers.
