America not getting regular size N3DS, confirmed.

To be honest, I'm COMPLETELY surprised that NOA didn't go a step further and just drop the XL moniker.

They could just call it the New 3DS. This leads me to believe the regular one will come later... one day.

Presumably because of your HUGE GAIJIN SPADE-LIKE HANDS.

Honestly I don't understand this at all. They run the same games, is it that expensive to issue a second SKU in a slightly different box? The unit inside is the same bar firmware anyway.

I bet most of the people crying over no AC adapter already have a charger from the normal 3DS, or DSi. Oh, and by the way, the chargers can be bought for as cheap as $ 3 dollars on ebay.

Also, XL is the superior model.

Video games, they're serious business.

Although I mainly wanted the XL, I am sad but not surprised that NOA did this. It's a real shame for all the people who specifically wanted the regular New 3DS for the faceplate and smaller size/weight. I was even considering one along with an XL.

And the AC adapter thing... Again, not surprised but it still sucks.

I guess we're lucky they still include a stylus in the box.

I'm european as well, I'm just saying this has a bigger impact, it's an entire (kinda) new system the US can't officialy buy. I hope there's some sort of reaction and we finally get rid of region locking.

If you think "reaction" will reach any of the fossils on the Nintendo board, you're delusional.

I live in NYC, and I see 3DSes on the train ALL THE TIME.

with that said, they're almost always XL's.

If you live in a large city center and take mass transit I am sure you will see them. I don't live in a large city center and I drive to work. I doubt I would ever see one in my life.

Isnt the XL the better model anyways? I don't own either so I don't know but I am interested just the same to hear what people say.

EU is getting normal versions.

I'm guessing they will want a cheaper SKU near the holidays. Probably going to take advantage of the launch period and maximize the profits by only releasing the more expensive SKU. Obviously, this is just a guess but we got the 2DS to make sure there was a cheap option, so it would make sense that we get a n2DS or n3DS (regular). Possibly before the holidays? Keep hope alive those that wanted the regular n3DS.

Did you guys see the new faceplates announced in the Japanese Direct?

I want the Majora and Kirby ones. :(

Why does NoA have to suck so bad?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see it has been posted.

Meanwhile in japan...

So I was looking to get the regular-sized nN3ds, but since it's not coming out in NA what are my options? If I pick up a PAL system I'm restricted to PAL games, yes? And what about the eshop? Am I able to set that up for NA on a PAL system or am I buggered again and stuck on the PAL eshop?

Kind of sad that all that I find appealing about the new model isn't even given a chance in the US. Love the form factor, faceplates, buttons, bright and well designed packaging that seems fun.

I guess NOA thinks none of that would have traction here especially looking at the ratio of N3DS vs N3DSLL sales in Japan. Ugh....

Yes, buy a new system and then wait for a shipment from ebay, nice. Xl is superior for you.

The new 3ds has better 3d, better screen, smaller and faceplates. That makes it superior to me.

Also you can't trade in the original 3ds without an adapter. Besides what does it matter what you prefer? You're getting the XL, move along. This is about the people who are not getting the system they want that's available in japan, europ and australia.

just tweeted at NoA. probably won't help.

post here if there are any organized ways for people to express their disappointment to Nintendo

this is some grade A fuckery

You need a twitter hashtag, you need to spam their facebook page, you need to spam miiverse, you need to write emails, you need to write real letters.

Start while people are still angry enough to care.

Yes, XL is better in almost every way. Some people dislike the larger screen because it makes the already non-HD graphics a touch more pixelated, while others bemoan not being able to fit the XL into their front pants pocket. It all depends on your personal preference but most consider the XL better for comfort and for the larger screen.

Not better. Just different.

I want my portable to be portable. I have both a 3DS and 3DS XL and the original is just a far superior portable device.

I had been fully expecting this.

Japan's n3DS sales have skewed in favor of the XL (or LL as they call it). It just makes sense that they wouldn't bring it over, though I can understand why those who want it are upset.

Hahahahahahahahaha

Hilarious. People in the thread yesterday were flipping out over this, everyone dismissed it as insanity.
Yeah, I knew to not underestimate Nintendo (or worse, the American market.) :/

Figures when I thought going to smaller would have been nice too. And with region loving in place so I can't go "well guess I can just import the smaller one."

People have been buying Nintendo's bullshit despite their awful practices for years now. I don't even have to act like my argument is ironclad. You have to have your head firmly in your ass to not see it.

Except they haven't been buying their bullshit?

The WiiU was DOA and is selling like shit and the 3DS is selling like complete shit compared to the DS.

I kinda felt this was coming.

Maybe not the size, but the faceplates. It seems like something that wouldnt sell to a mass audience here. I just cant see them competing for shelf space in retailers with Amiibos, games, systems, accessories and face plates.

Def sucks. But atleast it makes my decision on getting an XL 100% easier since its the only option... lol

Which makes no sense considering how much amibos and Iphone cases sell here.

I just read the news. I was really hoping to grab a regular size because I wanted something smaller than the XL to commute with. I'll probably just stick with my 3DS XL for the mean time.

EDIT:

Confirmed in EU stream. Launching same day as the N3DS.

same day

someone update this thread title to include the XL too, thanks

Just saw this in the other thread. I might pick up the XL, if it is available in the US. I haven't read the other thread to see if NOA is releasing it here.

Are there any chances that hackers might find a way to flash a different region of the stock firmware?

I think that's something they managed to do on the Wii. I've heard something about people forcing their Wiis into PAL region so they can get native SCART RGB output.

I'm not talking about modded firmware or anything, just forcing another region at the system level.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/poc-3ds-region-changing-proof.378110/

The answer seems to be that it is theoretically possible. There are a few challenges that would pose problems, though.

Apparently, the eShop and online games use some sort of serial number verification to check if your system is from the correct region; this may be able to be spoofed with a serial from the appropriate region, but you may run into issues if Nintendo realizes multiple 3DS systems are logging on with the same serial number and ban the systems outright. Additionally, people have really only just started figuring this out with old 3DS systems, and it requires a firmware downgrade. 2DS and n3DS systems can't be downgraded to the appropriate firmware at this time.

You know I'm talking about the Nintendo enthusiasts, who sometimes like to pretend that Nintendo's shit doesn't stink. There are many people in this thread claiming they won't carry their water anymore though. We'll see if they actually hold out.

Suspected this ever since the system was announced for Japan; got my regular-sized version that way with a ton of faceplates. Always planned on getting a US XL; never had an XL-sized Nintendo portable before and the Majora's Mask edition just sweetens the deal. Not bothered by this news in the least though I can certainly understand why many would be. I never thought the regular edition would come here as shelf space is at a premium and NOA has been phasing out that size for quite some time.

I'm not buying two new 3DS's in one year as long as the account system only allows me to use my software on one of them. I'll get the XL because AFAIK the small model isn't coming out, then if the small model is announced I'll feel betrayal on top of my disappointment.

It's decisions like this that confirm my iron-clad devotion to clicking randomly on all of my Club Nintendo surveys so their marketing team has to sort through garbage data

It's the only way I know how to fight back :(

;_;

Question, what's the size comparison between the old 3DS XL and the new XL? If the new one is even bigger I can see that being a bit unwieldy but if they're the same size I don't see what the problem is.

Though yeah faceplate options for XL would be nice

it's the same size...

but the problem is that people wanted a smaller option.
