American Truck Simulator |OT| Freedom gives me a Semi with a Heavy Load

The G27 is so bloody expensive here in the UK. Amazon have the Logitech Driving Force GT for £111 but it's currently out of stock.

Playing this and ETS2 with a controller has been fine, but I want the full experience.

Currys have the G29 for £160.

I got my G920 on Boxing Day from them for Forza and PC Racing and it's a beaut.

Now it's like £200 again. Damn!

Also, drove past a cop stationed at 60MPH..Nothing!

And in my last trek, I drove back 2 cops at 57MPH and they didn't turn an eye either! What is up?!

Depends on where you are. Only California has the 55 rule for trucks. In Nevada, it's whatever the posted limit is.

They need to tweak the cop car reaction times for sure, it's unreal at this point.

I randomly entered a slower max limit area, and before my brain processed the indicator on the navigator and sent an electric pulse to my hand to press the brake button I already got a 1500 dollar ticket because there happened to drive a cop car behind me.

It's stupid and unfair, especially if you have randomly switching speed limits for no reason. Some stretches have 4 different limits over de course of less than a mile. Come on.

Was in Cali, so it was 55.

Same just happened to me...then I saw a Truck indicating to come onto the Highway, but I could not go in another lane or stop in time, so I carried on and then when I was just past him...$900 fine for HIM hitting ME.

I've been spending a good chunk of time exploring. I've now been to all cities and towns, currently in Carson City. Once I cover the road between that and Redding (thus covering all CA-NV crossings), I'll start taking on jobs again. I'm currently LV 7, and want to upgrade my truck and get the fancy paint jobs.

How does the multiplayer mod work when so much of the game involves quickly passing time, like when you rest?

Does it go like "ok you rested, no time actually passed on the server but yeah locally you had some jobs finish etc."

You don't need sleep in MP last time I checked.

Travel time, then. When you go to do a quick job, or travel between garages, any time you get warped around the map really. They probably just make it happen instantly, I guess.

I ask because when you've got two garages and some employees out doing jobs, traveling between the garages is a big money maker. :)

Yeah, time don't skip if you teleport. :D Time is synced for all people if I remember.

So your AI Drivers also get messed up when I last played 2 years ago.

Just found out about them bugging in MP. F7'd for service, and went from 150k to 2 mill. That AI drivers truck also has like 300k miles on it now and a 10.0 rating lol.

But hey, I'm not complaining. Free 2 million dollars :D

Yeah, that's why if I ever do play Multiplayer, i'll use a separate profile.

How do I install mods? I downloaded the Realistic Police Mod and put the .scs file in the main game folder with the other scs files but it's not showing in the mod manager.

Edit: Nvm, found the Mod folder in Documents.

So what exactly is the radio station pulling from? Because I feel like ETS 2 had a far larger selection and if it's just specifically pulling from internet radio streams, it's missing a shit ton.

And god damn I don't mind the commercials but the SAME TWO COMMERCIALS EVERY FUCKING TIME makes me just want to make a playlist.

They are just ordinary internet radio stations that you can listen to in a browser by going to their respective websites. ETS2 probably has a larger selection because the devs have possibly added more to it over the years: you can add your own too by editing the station list, but not all of them work (in my experience). I sometimes used to listen to Planet Rock in ETS2, which I added myself.

I was just hauling a load of fertilizer through the desert in Nevada. Speed limit was 80, and I was hauling ass down a straightaway.

Journey's Separate Ways was on the radio, and the guitar solo kicked in. Right when it hit it's crescendo, a fucking fighter jet blows over me about 20 feet above the freeway.

This game!

Not sure where it's pulling from but what I've read for the comparatively paltry list is due to Clear Channel (iheartradio) having such a significant monopoly with online streams of local radio stations. Basically limits what the devs can get in game.

Yep, I got buzzed by a jet fighter at night time today too:

I also saw a shooting star down around Vegas at night too!

I like trucking in Nevada, you can really open her up on those long desert roads with the higher speed limits. I finally got up to Rt 50 and into Ely, that just might be my favorite stretch of road in the game.

Ely is a great little western town, just like I remember it, lol. This sight sure brought back memories, they did a good job with it!

I worked my way up to being able to take out a 400K loan and upgraded my garage, also hired two drivers and bought two budget Peterbuilts, so my fledgling company is on it's way!

I've did a lot of back and forth's today between California and Nevada, just bopping between towns choosing whichever jobs paid the best, working to pay down my huge loan bills. On one hand I miss the number of trucks and customization options from ETS2, but man am I loving the map and world of ATS more than ETS2. They did a great job with the map for this, it just suits trucking excellently and the towns have so much character and charisma.

ATS has it's claws into me deep right now....

This game sold me on a TrackIR. Ordering next week. Arizona (my favorite state to drive through) can't come soon enough.

yeah, the amount of looking around/behind/etc that needs to be done in this game makes it almost a requirement lol

also, ive come to use the shoulders for ease of merging onto roads after a on ramp. traffic will let you in if you get close enough without hitting them and you wont lose your speed having to wait at the end of the ramp.

cuz you can pretty much drive like a drunk monkey in this game, driving from shoulder to shoulder or down the middle of the road, just as long as you dont speed and dont contact* other vehicles :)

* "love taps" are still acceptable, but you try keeping contact with other vehicles to a acceptable level while going highway speeds swerving from one side of the road to the other!

Waited patiently for the weekend to play this. Got home, installed the game, dusted off my TrackIR, wheel and pedals. Installed all the drivers and set everything up. Realized I left my monitor adapter at work so can't play 3 screen eyefinity. No big deal...

Stepped on the gas pedal for the first time and heard several sickening snaps. Pedal no longer has resistance. First world problems I guess.

They forgot to fill up tank before giving to me again...

1 gallon left, fuel stop in sight...

Conked out right before Fuel Thing...had to get Serviced which put me back 2 hours and i'm now sleepy.

It feels like the rain in ATS lasts longer and has more variety than ETS2.

Usually in ETS2, the rain started and stopped quite quickly or always felt the same level of rain...

...however in ATS, I had a trip where the rain started heavily, then lightened up before turning into a thunderstorm and then lightening up hours later. All this lasted like 8 hours of game time.

Anyone feel the same? BTW, my probability of rain is like 10-20%, while ETS2's is 33%, so it isn't to do with that.

basically, just go here on map...

OH yeah, they put Nevada 375 into the game. In real life that's called "The Extraterrestrial Highway". I've been on it, there are actually signs along the road naming it that, lol! It's called that because it's the highway closest to Area 51 and many people cruise this highway at night looking out for strange lights in the skies.

That's a cool touch by SCS, I like that.

yeah, heres another pic of the stop...

seems its random if they show or not as I just sat there all night and nothing. maybe the "van hagar" scared um off....

HOLY SHIT, that looks very much like I remember it! I think they modeled the rest stop exactly! Do they have a parking sign that has a picture of a UFO on it, like it's for UFO parking only? :)

I'm gonna have to take a delivery that swings me out that way in game.

The jet was a cool moment but why doesn't it have any sound? Seemed real odd.

aside from the one on the pole in front of the building? dont think so. next time i kill alot of time out there i need to be in my own truck... damn late load :(

O my god FUCK the cops.

I feel like blasting NWA's Fuck Tha Police non-stop during my 17-hour ride.

yeah, I tried to roll with it, but after awhile I too said fuck the police and modded my game.

and then I modded it some more, think I have about 10 installed so far :)

I'm not sure how employees work. Mine has only 3 points in dangerous materials skill but apparently won't be bothered to transport anything else than flour, furnitures, or yoghurt.

depends on what other skills they have and what jobs are available in the city they are in. if no points in long haul they can only do short trips, just like valuable and fragile skills. also if they deliver to a city that doesnt have any jobs they can do, thay will return to your garage empty making no money but costing you money and fuel.

Just did my first 600+ mile delivery. Saw a few things:

Police sweatin' me
Stopped prior to merging on to the interstate, then jumped out and cut me off, forcing me to skid to a halt.

Whack-a-duck
There are at least 3 of these things which inflate up, then pop back down in some airfield just over a ridge south of this stop...

You know what all this reminds me of? Pilotwings 64. My favorite thing about that game (or any game) is flying around the levels searching for cool easter eggs like this stuff.

What's the deal with weigh stations? Just started playing the game is there any kind of indicator that tells me when I have to use a weigh station or? I haven't gotten a fine for missing one yet but i'm just not sure when/how they are supposed to be used.
