American Truck Simulator |OT| Freedom gives me a Semi with a Heavy Load

I honestly never thought I'd be into that kind of game, but goddamn am I enjoying this.
Bought my own truck with a loan and now trying to work enough to pay it back on time while slowly working on upgrades :P
Trucker FM + night time desert driving is just sooooo relaxing it's a ton of fun.

ONE. OF. US.

Yes, both ETS2 and ATS are addicting in odd and unexpected ways. If you had told me years ago that I'd have 130+ hours played on a truck driving simulator I'd have laughed out loud. Hell I already have over 40+ hours on ATS as well now. I'm just working hard to pay off my initial $400K loan so I can immediately take out another $400K loan to upgrade my garage to a 5-bay, hire two new drivers to fill the garage out, give one of them my current truck, buy a cheap truck for the fifth guy, and then I'm buying myself a brand new Kenworth W900.

By the time Arizona comes out I should have a couple of garages with fledgling drivers working their way up!

I roleplay so hard in this game. Trucking to support a family, took a gamble with the banks for my first $130,000 loan for my first truck. Hoping my company takes off or my family is homeless.

so I remembered a truck that came in to a job I was at years ago. really need to see if I can get a modder to make a skin..

Found this on reddit regarding the xbone controller:
Hey guys, in order to fix this quick you need to uninstall the KB3140743 update. If you don't know how to do that, go to Programs and Features and then click View Installed Updates over in the left panel. Find that update, click it, and click uninstall. Some guy on the Steam forums figured it out, but I couldn't find the thread back to give him due credit.

Sweet, will try this tonight!

I removed the Windows update and everything worked for a while but now my controller config is changing whilst I'm driving which at one point made my truck slam into a central reservation.

Bollocks.

how do speeding tickets work?
how long till you get your ticket?
how much over the limit is ok?

If you speed you get a ticket right away and the money is taken from your account immediately.

I go max 5 over the speed limit (sometimes more ;) ) and don't get tickets but be careful since if there is a cop near you you might still get busted for 2 or 3 over the limit.

Wauw that is one awesome paint job. in ETS2 SCS sure had some awesome paint jobs as well. Im only level 10 in ATS but i'm guessing there are some great ones in ATS as well.

You can browse upgrades even beyond your level. Go to the Main Menu, click About, then you'll find the Truck Browser or some such thing, and you can tinker with all 3 trucks.

Did they expand the economy/own your own business aspect or is it copy/paste from ETS2?

Copy paste. If they were to expand it, they would probably do it in both games. But at this point I think it is more likely that they will try to bring in complexity to the economy through the World of Trucks job system.

yes. go look on the ATS forums

I looked and found nothing..thanks.

All I find is new profiles mods, how hard is it to just make a mod to make the money a little higher...ugh

edit: fuck it, made a new profile with a money started mod...was the only way.

It's very easy:
Download scs extractor,
Extract the main scs file
Modify the file called economy.sii with your favorite text editor with the values you would like
Zip the file (only economy.sii) with 7-zip or winzip and put it in your mods folder.

That's the gist of doing any kind of mod that just changes values around, and sometimes it's easier to just make your own instead of looking for one that fits your exact needs.

My man, thanks so much.

For myself personally I'm not having any money problems at all. To be honest I'm liking having to start from scratch again and work my ass off to make ends meet, it's a nice refreshing change from my ETS2 career where I have two dozen garages filled with drivers and over $10 million in the bank where I can earn tens of thousands per day while not driving any cargo myself at all. In ATS I only have my first garage so far with four drivers working for me, and the four of them together can almost cover the cost of a $400K loan's daily cost, so the money's doing pretty good already.

yeah, in ETS2 I just dick around and let my drivers make enough to cover my expenses lol

now in ATS im like "Wha?!?!? I have to work too?!?!?!?"

Even at max level, my ETS 2 drivers are bringing in about 16,000 euros a day, compared to my jobs that can make around 100,000.

okay, it is getting higher.

I had a 10k loan and right now have a 100k and a 400k loan.
upgraded my garage, bought 3 trucks and hired 2 drivers.

we'll see if I start making real profit soon. :D

so, I turned off traffic offenses and fatigue simulation.

as long as the game doesn't reward you for playing more realistic..

No, the game doesn't care whether you play with all of the realism options on or set it as "easy" as you want to. That's one of the things I love about both ATS and ETS2, you aren't penalized for playing the way you like to.

Ironically enough, the other night I turned off both fatigue and fines as well just to do something different (I've never done this in ETS2) and to be embarrassingly honest.....I think I like the game better with both of them off! I no longer fear going a few mph over the posted speed as I now just drive at whatever speed feels comfortable, and I no longer get caught out in the middle of nowhere with a red sleep meter and no rest stops in range. Fatigue never bothered me in ETS2 and in fact I loved the mechanic, but in ATS I'm finding it more annoying to me than it ever was in ETS2. It just seems like my driver is always getting tired so very fast? I'm still stopping at rest stops at night when I have plenty of time on the job because I prefer daytime driving, but at least now I can freely choose when and where I sleep rather than panic about my screen going black on me in the middle of a turn!!!

That's definitely one of the main drawbacks about the 1:34 scale as opposed to 1:19 of ETS. I don't mind the distances being smaller as much as I mind the time passing so fast. I feel like I'm always in a hurry in ATS.

Yeah, I felt that too, but after turning off fatigue I'm no longer feeling that.

I think it was the second time I fell asleep at the wheel that I started to get really frustrated with the fatigue mechanics in ATS. I definitely didn't feel this way in ETS2. I'm probably gonna follow suit and tick these off. I know the fines are an INI edit, is the fatigue the same, or is there an option in the menus?

It's just an option in the menus, you can turn it off in two seconds from in game.

I have the fines on still (gotta obey them traffic laws!), but I do have fatigue turned off. I stop playing when I'm tired, not my avatar.

dang heh I love fatigue, I get into heavy role playing with this game. i especially like if i fatigue during the evening and then sleep until like 2am.

those dark drives are so nice with the starry night mod

Never really had a problem with the fatigue mechanic. Just a few close calls, where I only had like 20 minutes left to find a place to sleep.

Speeding tickets and especially accidents because of stupid ai were more annoying.

If it is green, just go and don't stop at the line..

Well I finally purchased a gaming laptop.. did it mainly because my new macbook pro ran this game like shit. I bought a gaming laptop. .mainly for ATS and ETS2. I may need some mental help.

Nah. Mental help lies somewhere between picking up a steering wheel and purchasing old Peterbilt interiors to convert your living room into a sim rig.

It seems like a new update has bugged my game. I've been playing with a Xbox one controller, and I turn on today and it says it's detected a new controller and won't read my controller. It than crashed my entire PC.

That's Windows, they managed to kill their own controller. X360 controller FTW.

Take a quick look at the forum on steam for the game.. first 2 pages are 90% people complaining about this. But if you have a 360 controller use it for now.. until MS fixes it.

New France screenshots.

Bonjour truckers!

We are on the verge of releasing open betas for a new update of both ETS2 and ATS, but we still need to iron out a few details and go through another internal testing pass or two to make sure that there are no profile-breaking issues.

So instead of talking Open Beta already, let us show you a little bit of new France that we are working on for Euro Truck Simulator 2. These are a bit raw screenshots where you still can see some placeholder models, a sort of a peek behind the shoulder of a map designer as he still keeps working on his area. Our goal with the new map DLC is to improve the feel of authenticity once again compared to any of our previous work.

Have any of you tried a map mod yet? I tried the coast to coast one yesterday and i have to say that it's pretty great for an early map mod. The scenery slowly gets greener as you go from west to east. The new cities are really small but it's a start right?

I am really starting to dislike the scale of this game. I did a 2000 mile trip in under an hour yesterday. It feels "off". Can't really find better words for it.
