America's most misspelled words according to Google Trends

Everything sort of made sense and then I saw Giraffe was one of the words. I need to know why that word is used so much it's the most misspelled word for a state.

Probably had to do with all those "April the Giraffe" searches.

Pneumonia will always get me. Chihuahua, I absolutely hate the name and the dog.

I've always use grey and gray interchangably. I used to work for a company that sold vinyl fabrics. Each manufacturer had their own names for colors.

Sauerkraut would be a hard one for anyone not in German areas, but in PA?

:D Mississippi cant even spell Nanny.

Mississippi: First in everything you don't want to be first in and last in everything you don't want to be last in.

I'll admit I'm a terrible speller and my wife (who's first language isn't English) puts me on the spot for the correct spelling of a word if she's having trouble. Make me feel pretty stupid.

I have trouble with beautiful. Even now I tried to spell it and I missed the "a".

But "Angel" "Liar" and "Grey"? I'm not that bad.

Watch this clip and you will never have a problem spelling beautiful again.

Before I zoomed in on the image I thought Oklahoma's word was patriot. I was disappointed when I found out it wasn't.

Wisconsin is fucking hilarious though, that explains their hard right turn and Paul Ryan so much.

there are two different ways you can spell gray/grey, and both are valid.

What is going on in your state that diarrhea is the most misspelled word?

That's a common word to go for in words often misspelled. I'm curious about the words nanny, beautiful, quote, sense, college, diamond, suspicious, and angel. These are pretty easily spelled words that are common.

I remember that scene with Helen Hunt in "as good as it gets"....

" conscience?.. makes no sense it's con and then science"

or something like that.

Why do people search "how to spell..." anyway? You just input the first couple of letters and it suggests you the correct spelling automatically.

This is kind of like your grandma searching "hey google i would like to know when is the next flight to new york?".

100% certain the most common error is using "lead" and not "led" as the past tense of "lead."
Yeah, I'd assume it's something simple like that. The chart is not really about most misspelled words. It's about "words whose spelling people are the most unsure of (to the extend that they'll google it)".

Tennessee should know better.

I went on that during an early-1990 vacation.

I'm gonna challenge this chart

They are using internet searches on how to spell these words as a qualifier

I'd argue these words would be spelt correctly based on those searches and not a true indicator of incorrect spelling

Yeah, a google search for "how to spell X" does not imply that X is frequently misspelled, nor does it imply that the intent of the search is to get the correct spelling.

But "words people seem to be unable to spell from memory" doesn't have the same viral hook as "words people misspell most frequently."
