As distasteful as the response has been, the reaction is, as Son of Cervantes said, very human. "Woke Male Feminist Ally outed as a sex pest" is, for the American Right in Current Year, what "Evangelical Preacher outed as homosexual" was for the American Left in the 00s. When loud, overbearing people who try to force other people to adhere to their moral standards are exposed as hypocrites, there's always going to be very public indulgence in schadenfreude. I don't think this thread could have gone any other way, particularly given the nature of the individual in question, and of the crime committed.

Projection is a hell of a thing. Usually the people who deny something so vehemently are the ones who do it the most. Hell, I am guilty of doing this back in High School. Would always promote green living and recycling, but I polluted more than most (though I have since tried to improve that in the ten years since).

Amir0x is a textbook example of psychological projection, as well as how not to act.

I think he was driven by guilt to do better.

There's only one person I'm aware of who's been obsessed with having an MMA match with me for the last decade, so it's safe to assume yeah. Also yuck.

That could actually be a very fun thing if it was done legitimately, you streamed it and gave the proceeds to charity! I know I’d watch the fight! You practice martial arts, right?

Speaking for myself, my hate for Amir0x wasn't political at all. I agreed with most of his publicly stated opinions (e.g. pedophiles are bad, trump is bad), but hated how he acted in debates. Particularly on the gaming side (and on IRC for years before he joined gaf) where the extremely low stakes made his belligerence and arrogance ten times more aggravating. He was a shitty poster who turned out to be a detestable human being.

I don't wish rape on him, or even cups full of urine. However, when he got drenched in piss and it made the local news in his area, it was one of the top 10 laughs I've had in my life. Perfect comedy.

Nah, hardly 99%. GAF still has the majority of its previous user numbers, actually, just quiet on the boards right now and it's finding its voice again and such, people are on lurk mode sussing it out and don't have the normal deluge of new stuff to read 24/7, etc. Things are a lot more readable overall than they have been in years, though, so it's a good foundation to roll with from here.

That stuff I described is ancient history and shouldn't be relevant at all, but when obsessive types push their own narratives off-site with bullshit along the lines of what I responded to while threads like this get appropriately locked (for being misanthropic and in poor taste and irrelevant, y'know, as pointed out by lots of folks above), the internet will apparently dream up bizarre neogaf conspiracy theories that try to fit the bullshit peddled elsewhere to the locked threads here when it suits them (e.g. Evil0re witch hunting season). Better to open up discussion on-site some and keep it grounded in reality. Should all still be a cursory search away in the post database.

It's not like I'm oblivious to trolling attempts, kind sir/madam.

How much of the previous traffic was low effort outrage posts like “gross” or “disgusting”? While losing that affects the raw numbers, nothing of value was actually lost. Quality over quantity.

I really hope you have noticed that the off site crap has by and large ended everywhere, except the site founded for the specific purpose of stealing what you built, and of course by those who detest free speech that they disagree with. Whether you have noticed the change in tone off site or not though, props for sticking with this new approach even in the face of the people claiming Breitbart this, alt right that, etc. Takes balls to stand up to that crowd in a public space, though I think long term you will be rewarded financially.

Take a look to the videogame communities. The ones I was interested (Etrian Odyssey, Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, Trails in the Sky, Dragon Quest) are all dead. To say nothing of value was lost is a vile lie.

You could try to create threads talking about the history of the games you love so much to get new people interested or try to resuscitate those small communities instead of complaining that they are dead/dying.

And I agree with Papa Papa . The majority of OldGaf posted the same low level, low effort shitposts with hardly any discussion outside of a small handful of threads. We have since had far more quality posts with members such as Dunki, StrangeHeadache, Kadayi, among others as a handful of examples. Good discussion on both sides has been had with the GamerGate, Liberals, and Colin Moriarty threads (trying to name examples that have both sides discussing/debating).

Not trying to get banned but I wish I had an update if something ever happened to this piece of shit as well - http://archive.is/0lQ5E

Titanoboa was his original name. A mod changed his name to Already Torn and then scrubbed his post history for several months, before banning him/her. If the archive link is screwy, basically this person admitted to having a tougher time drawing blood on patients who had differing political views than theirs.

I can't imagine a health care professional doing some shit like that to my grandparents, one who is terrified of needles. I would lose my mind.

Eh, I don't want revive those threads. I'm just pointing how hypocrite is to say that nothing of value was lost.

I like to think that the cancer that was excised outweighs the losses. It would be nice to have the community section be thriving again though.

NBA GAF was cut in half two years ago when users got axed/left voluntarily, Smokey, Moris, Blackace (de-modded), DY_Nasty, PSY.

Pop-Gaf (as distinguished from K-Pop Gaf which was still here and popular) was exiled. Footy-Gaf (soccer) was exiled ("cunt" controversy, I guess).

Mumei got in a disagreement with Tyler and was demodded.

Remember Devolution???

Those were massive communities, and users who attracted heavy traffic, who go caught up in all of that, gone before "shower-gate" was beyond our imaginations.

Now, when you cruise through the cemetery that is OT Community, you see that Hip-Hop Gaf got up to 17 pages. Black Gaf on 20. LGBT at 9.

NFL Gaf, CFB Gaf, Movie Gaf, Anime Gaf, PoliGaf...all dead.

And that's without even addressing gaming side (SalesGaf, Sony Gaf, Indie/DevGaf etc).

Rome wasn't built in a day, but the verve of a decade plus ain't ever coming back. The sighs of relief from the most active users present here that the political tone has shifted dramatically ensures that the minority groups mentioned ain't coming back.

OT as it is now is how I expect things to be going forward.

I don't know, many of the content creators here have gone... No matter how you slice it, it did not and probably will never "outweigh" the losses since great thread makers and the good active members have also left in large quantities.

I am going to have to disagree with you here.

The site is much better now that the left wing lynch mob isn't banning any line of opinion that deviates from the communist manifesto. I prefer when both sides can argue their points without some political crybaby begging the mods to ban someone because a disagreement hurt their feelings. Yes, the traffic has dropped dramatically, but it's something that will have to be built back up over time carefully to ensure it doesn't turn back into neogaf of old.

Drug use and addiction certainly don't mean someone is a bad person. Some of the best people I have ever known are or have been drug addicts. I'm 100% sure there are drug addicts on the forum right now. Don't lump people in with former mods of oldGAF - the very worst druggies don't even deserve that.

Agreed. Go back to old threads from before The Cull-ening and page after page after page was just one word replies. It made reading beyond the first post on a thread exhausting and incredibly boring.

It's just a side effect of a crowded place. Those who don't have much to say get to hit post first, and the low effort also means a lower barrier against not bothering.

I just want to share that I used to browse OT from time to time before the October incident and usually these left/right-wing, GamerGate, cultural appropriation, sensitivity stuff, etc. stuff are mostly unknown to me because I don't live in the US and these issues are not brought upon, or even bring effect, within my local community (we just usually discuss our local politics). I know what they are about but not fully indepth.

These stuff kept going on and on and it becomes unreadable because I personally can't seem to put myself into that picture for some reason (mostly about the Trump politics stuff).

In all fairness I'm sure you can agree it is way easier to keep up with the current state of things.

Perhaps people prefer the boards without all that excess?

Eh, I feel like it's snapping too far right at the moment. The bias in a lot of threads being made is very clear and I feel like a lot of conservatives on here have a severe persecution complex. The "Fake News", "MSM", "SJWs", and "The Left" are all out to get them and won't give poor Trump a rub on the head for when he skips a day of spewing verbal diarrhea on Twitter. There was a bit right after the Era/GAF split where it was a lot closer to a balanced left/right discussion, but it's been drifting more and more into the what GAF was but for the right wing.

I don't understand why other Mods protected him for so long even after he scammed forum users out of money and was a non stop problem poster.

People were banned for calling him out on his bullshit. He protected class around here. Same with LIME and all of their lies.

The mods came out after the arrest and acted like they never who he really was and they never liked him. We all know all of that is a lie.

Probably scared they got linked towards him in some sort of way or maybe even blackmailed to some degree. What if he scammed you out of money for whatever reason but your name is linked to his bank account and he can make up whatever he wants about you.

HF explaining that.

Dunno how long this guy is locked up, but i hope forever.

I still feel bad for people who go through terrible things and of course I never condone what people are doing that go to prison. I do believe they have issues that is hard to control and that prison is not fixing the issues at all. it's a tough situation to me

People need to be able to fix their issues with help, and things where people can have a chance to help them. Not sure this will ever happen in the US but I believe some countries are trying to fix it.
