And, if Nintendo hadn't created the Wii...

well yeah but i wish it was even about what the opening post was for even 2 posts in a row.

Shh shh... it's okay. It's okay.

Well i actually locked it because all the n-fans who formed a mob were actually too dumb to read the opening text, so they all just thought the dude was saying hardcore games were dead. After the 98th time that happened I said "that about wraps it up."

To be fair, I stopped reading the article once he called Cooking Mama one the Wii's biggest hits + started talking about Metal Gear Mama and Halo Sports. I didn't join in on the thread though, so I've got no idea how it turned out. If I miss out on a thread and I see a lock I usually take it as a cue to ignore the content.

I just wish the Wii would hurry up and get some more hardcore games so people would shut up about the mini-game thing. Rygar, Final Fantasy CC, and Nintendo's stuff can't come soon enough.

Yeah. Same thing happened with the DS (and the PS2 for that matter). Lots of crying about its initial success followed by denial followed by acceptance. Now no one cares.

The "denial" phase usually consists of spurned fans creating laughably elaborate "doom" scenarios ... ie: DS will turn all games into Brain Training! Why even make a Mario or Zelda game when you can just make Nintendogs for 1/10th the budget!! No one's gonna bother making RPGs for the DS when they could just make English Training. etc. etc. etc.

Or PS2 is so complex it will cost $30 billion just to make a regular game for it! The industry will crash! People will stop buying games and only buy DVDs. The PS2 is so complex to program for developers will ditch it for the GameCube + XBox!

etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum.

I miss Amir0x meltdowns.. Remember when we found out that Nintendo hadn't provided dev-tools for the wiimote speaker, even though we were three months away from launch? Good times..

I think it comes from the fact that Nintendo games aren't talked about much...after a while you forget which games are coming out and you slip back into that "minigame console" stigma until some new announcements/wave of info from announced games come. So i would wager that the majority of bitching will continue till the end of the year, and any more after that...well...they just need to get a life. :P

Maybe E3 will give us a break?

Or not. *sigh*

Freaky. Not only is that my favorite Futurama episode, but earlier today I was talking to a friend about it (and it's his favorite episode too).

The 1st 4 month sales figures show the WII selling only 300,000 more units more than the Dreamcast. DC was easily found on day one, SEGA could supply the demand, while Nintendo can only sell 20% more than the Dreamcast and turn away many customers, the problem is how long will it take for WII to become available to the average consumer? Another 6 months?.
Worldwide launch vs staggered launch.

how are 'market realities' supposed to hide or expose a person's inherent fanboy stupidity? nintendo fans want sales figures to be an effective reply to everything.

a: wii is doomed
b: but look at the sales

so far so good

a: wii hasn't got any games
b: but look at the sales

much less satisfactory

a: the controller isn't any good
b: but look at the sales

approaching irrelevance

a: you guys are loonies
b: but look at the sales

non sequitur

No. 1 and 2 are well within the "look at the sales" juridiction. 3 and 4 are trolls, so why even bother dignifying them with answers.

I really do think a big problem here is that Sony enthusiasts are at a loss for what to troll, which is irking them. hint hint.

Because no matter how rosy a future someone painted for Sony between 1994 and 2005, it turned out to be true.

if world war 3 should start tomorrow, i would not in retrospect praise the sagacity of all the bums i've seen with 'the end is nigh' written on cardboard placards. outside of the sales age mutual congratulation circle, i think it's pretty well understood that gafers operate on the 'broken clock is right twice a day' principle -- it's not to the broken clock's particular discredit if it's wrong, and it's not to the broken clock's credit if it's right, because it's only a broken clock and can only show the same time all the time.

if anyone is really under the impression that nintendo's recent success has made nintendo fans seem more reasonable -- or that even within the narrow arena of 'sales analysis' there's no longer room for nintendo fans to say stupid things -- i beg to observe that they're mistaken. the other day i saw someone propose that nintendo ought not to have released the snes, because it was only a horsepower upgrade and not a DIFFERENTIATED PRODUCT ON THE BLUE OCEAN PRINCIPLE -- that's a fanboy revision koji igarashi would envy.

It certainly makes their detractors much much funnier.

The reason you'd not give the crazy bum any credit for predicting World War 3 would be because you knew he was a crazy bum who ought not be listened to before the war started. If you met the exact same crazy bum saying the same things a few months after the war broke out and nukes had fallen on your country, it would be much harder to discredit him since reality reflects what he is saying and no doubt much smarter people are saying the same things.

My personal favourite is the belief every game should now automaticaly be developed for the Wii. Silent Hill 5? "OMGZ has to go Wii! Look at teh sales!"

I'm enjoying the Wii land slide just as much as any other Sony hating person. But I still want a broad console base. And I still want some games to be graphic power houses. There's room in my house for them all.

But is there room in your wallet?

(If you say yes that means you are richer than me, and that means I am forced to hate you. Don't say yes.)

Even in the most extreme cases of dominance and even perceived lunacy by a fanbase, there are always those that stand out like sore thumbs even to their 'own'.

That said, seeing as Nintendo fans are painted with a broad "NTard" brush around here, time was anybody that was a Nintendo supporter stuck out. Now the absolute reverse is happening.

The problem is, as soon as "anything" is announced, you have people saying, "IT SHOULD BE ON WII" along with, "NO IT SHOULD BE ON TEH NEXT GEN 360 FTW" etc. Each side is equally as guilty, really.

Frankly, I'm dissapointed the Wii hasn't gotten any significant new announcements yet. But I personally don't want every game on the Wii. Spread the love, etc.

As long as the Wii gets some RPGs, I'm a happy boy.

AniHawk said:
And in 5-6 years, you'll get those. But for right now, Silent Hill 5 should come to the Wii. Just look at those sales.

Don't forget that it was just made for waggle! I mean LOOK at it! WAGGLE! SH5!

That is truly all i care about. Just give me a flow of JRPG's and i'm happy for the rest of the gen.

In the interests of fairness, a lot of times the Nintendo fans are the ones who start the whole mess.

it occurs to me that the nintendo fanboy position has gotten less defensible in the places that matter -- it was a stretch to claim that eternal darkness and metroid prime were works of genius, but it's almost impossible to evangelize nintendogs or brain training without looking like a total charlatan. if cubedumbs were quixotic, wiidumbs are merely cynical. that they're largely the same people is kind of shocking...or would be if gaf were capable of shocking me.

Come now, surely you can come up with better epithets than those. The fanboys grow in number, but don't let that sap your resolve.

Well, sure. People who said equally ridiculous things about Sony wouldn't have had any shelter over the last decade, either.

Check the hilarious thread of Rygar Wii announcement.

The Rygar Wii thread had meltdowns. "THAT'S IT I'M QUITTING GAMING!!! WHY MAKE GAMES FOR WII??!!! RYGAR BELONGS IN HD!!!"

It's a two-way street, and anyone who doesn't recognize that is a fool.

It sounds as though someone is hurt and is being frustrated in their efforts to try to take out their pain on a formerly easy target...

Would you.... like a hug?

If they did that, then I temporarily retract my claims of 'Nintendo fans starting it'. Perhaps we've just not seen enough announcements on the Wii's side to judge.

But seriously, they blew up over Rygar? Who cares about that anyway?

There weren't as many people as one might want you to believe. Rygar's only had what, 2-3 entries in the series so far? I don't remember a lot of people lashing out. Or maybe I thought they were joking (because, as you said, who the **** cares about Rygar?).

You were wrong. I was right nanana.

And all your yammering does nothing to change it.

Oh and I forgot that other fans in the 360/PS3 camps claimed that Rygar for Wii was just a cheap side project to help fund a "NEXT GENZ" Rygar for 360/PS3.

There were only a couple meltdowns but there was widespread bitterness that Rygar (of all things) wasn't going to appear in HD.

What a weird discussion. Are we seriously debating whether "fanboys" are (still) stupid? They are, for the record, but carry on.

...God, I hate the word "fanboy". I've always felt that people who use it generally fit its description fairly well. It's a damn shame that people who like the things that I like can't all be level-headed and friendly, like me. :)

As someone who has been following Gaming Age since the very beginning, that is absolutely not true. Nintendo has always been very well represented on the various iterations of the GA forums. In fact, the brief Dreamcast fad was the only time that the Nintendo mob was outranked.

GAF will always have more Nintendo fans than others, just like GAF will always have more white teenage boys who wished that they were Japanese or lived in Japan than not.
