Haha, that requiem really surprised me... I was expecting something a la Verdi or Mozart and I got This!

Well, interesting stuff all around... time to look for some decent recordings!

Thanks a lot! :D

I wouldn't call this classical music...
on that note I give it a -10

Being able to play this song, I give it a +10 (masters level)

I'm not going to click through all of the youtube links but i prefer Conlon Nancarrow's player piano studies which were written almost 60 years ago.

OP knows his classics it seems. So I'll just ask. Any recommendations for classics that sound like Moonlight Sonata? I don't like the upbeat ones, an there's a lot of them unfortunately..

parallel 6ths in d7ths passages :D i did enjoy the sonority to that, a bit refreshing

sounds like a mixture of Liszt's frivolous chromaticism and Prokofiev

nobody who knows anything about 'classical' music would claim that, no.

view's great from up here on my high horse

are you referring to my comment? please say yes.
no, re: the thread title. and even then I was being kind of facetious.

but if you'd like to yarn me yo spiel, feel free. I have no lectures this week (exam prep), and I need a dose of musical expository writing to keep me sane.

Haha if you really want to experience that there are tonnes, a ridiculous amount especially during the Romantic era.

Look for pieces in Minor

SPECIFICALLY

Mozart in Minor. Put that fucker in Minor and you have MAGIC my friend (my favorite composer, I tend to ignore all others because when I'm in the mood for that style of music I rush right to him)

Chopin Op 48 No 1

My favourite nocturne. One of the most satisfying to play, as well.
i love the chord that comes out of nowhere toward the end of that piece (i think it's a neopolitan).

Yeah, that's true. Mozart's minor key compositions are special. Obviously the Requiem but also his piano music in minor keys. You can hear how much Beethoven was influenced by those pieces.

This is probably one of my favorite slow movements ever (Beethoven's Hammerklavier sonata, 3rd movement)

@ OP: Yeah.. sounds kinda cool but I wouldn't say it's "worth" being so hard to play. (impossible)

This is a fucking mess. Seriously? A masterpiece? Learn more about music. At the very least, if you're going to make this thread as a joke, spoiler that shit or something. Because now you just wind up looking stupid. Music isn't about a cascade of notes. There's so much more to it than that.
