lol idk what it means

Its been common knowledge for a long time, but I don't think he has ever said it outright. Nice that he finally did.

I'm hopeful this is Anderson's own doing (decision to come out), and not a publicity stunt for CNN since their ratings are so low.

Okay, seriously, I'm from the UK and have no reason to have a wide knowledge of who this guy is but I watched a few of his shows when I was on holiday and I dunno, I knew he was gay before I saw this post - must've read it online somewhere. He didn't really need to announce this to anyone; with the privacy he got, and the fact that a lot of people knew anyway but left him alone, he had it pretty good. I do hope this doesn't come back to bite him now that it's officially in the open.

Nevertheless, good for him. Guy is damn good at what he does.

Considering it was revealed on the Daily Beast, and came out of an email conversation with a journalist there who is friends with Cooper, I'm going to say it has nothing to do with CNN's ratings.

Of course, it's not exactly shocking news, but that was a well-written and understandable response. One of the journalists I really respect, just unfortunate that he's at a shit-hole like CNN.

I don't think he has ever said it in a public forum, but he would often show up to events with boyfriends from time to time. Plus it was pretty much "known" among the NYC gossip hounds because of his parents being such prominent socialites.

Little known factoid about Anderson Cooper:

Wiki said:
Anderson Hays Cooper was born on June 3, 1967,[1] the younger son of the writer Wyatt Emory Cooper and the artist, designer, writer, and heiress Gloria Vanderbilt, and is a great-great-great-grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt of the prominent Vanderbilt shipping and railroad fortune.[2] Cooper's media experience began early. As a baby, he was photographed by Diane Arbus for Harper's Bazaar.[3][4] He is also a descendant, through his mother, of Brevet Major General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick who was with Union General William T. Sherman in his March through Georgia.

I thought so too.

The EW article was interesting. Is it that big of a deal when someone actually makes announcements about their orientation?

It is if the person is a celebrity because their coming out could potentially helped/encouraged many gay teens out there who are struggling with their identity. Knowing that there are others out there who are like them but are successful in their career/life.

I say this as a straight man:

His boyfriend his HAWT! Like, if I was a woman I'd be crushed but would have to give Cooper a high-five.

Also, I want to know what the woman he interviewed about that "Lock up the gays" preacher thinks of the announcement.

The cover stories on entertainment magazines are usually happens when someone want to breathe some life into their career. See: Lance Bass, Ricky Martin, etc.

That's a good point I guess. I'm looking at it from Cooper's angle though. I understand the damage done when someone actively hides their orientation or pretends they're straight.

In some cases though, the people are living their lives as gay people and simply not making an announcement about it. Even with Cooper, it wasn't told in a bombshell type way.
