Nope. Texts are special data packets.:lol

My plan is to use google voice's email to SMS and never pay for texts again.

That's f'n BS. Looks like I'll be using my Google Voice for SMS as well.

Why even bother with forward facing cameras? Videocalling has never taken off.

I would use it if I had it.

I mean, I wouldn't conduct all calls through videocalling, but for the more social, bored and just talking to talk conversations, I think it's nice. Other than that, it makes a lot of sense for sharing, like showing someone something at a store, a car, something funny happening, etc. Calling someone to show them something just makes sense, I'd like the option.

So pretty!

That is one sick looking phone. My Nexus is a bit jealous.

Is that tiny trackball used for anything important?

The only use I give my track ball is for placing the cursor when editing words (sometimes easier than tapping) and for Replica Island.

Paznos said:
Not sure why it looks like that but it's a optical trackpad there's no ball.

ah. Okay. I was a little worried about mechanical parts breaking down. I guess if it's just a little optical trackpad then there isn't as much to worry about.

Still hate the back, but this looks like the phone I'll be getting. Wish the Nexus One was coming before it, though... I'd rather have that.

I got my Desire today.
Best smartphone ever!

Fast to surf with and is great for music and videos.
A ton of great and useful apps.

The best technical part is the screen. It is so bright and clear. TFT, nevermore!

If it weren't for the fact that it's a Nexus One with a slightly smaller battery and a better camera that costs $100 more (and the cashback comes in the form of a debit card rebate redemption, fuck that) then I might be tempted to give up my plans of getting an N1 on Sprint.

More internal memory too

EDIT: hrm, there doesn't seem to be a secondary mic to killoff noise pollution - how well does this work on nexus one? is it a feature that would be hard to do without?

I don't ever worry about the rebate. I just call Verizon and order one through a rep and they apply the rebate instantly and put the charge on my bill. Why would anybody do it any other way?

You've been doing without a secondary mic for forever.

Any chance of Incredible going to Euro-land soon?

Is it US carrier specific or is it GSM 900/1800/3G compatible?

http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/15/feel-goodroid-nexus-one-is-in-the-black-60k-android-devices-ac/

We'd heard a couple times that the Nexus One was selling at a mere trickle, but what we haven't heard is whether the phones that have sold are enough to generate a profit for Google -- and on its earnings call today, the company claimed for the first time that its superphone is indeed in the black.

Speaking both of the Nexus One specifically and of the platform as a whole, the company said that "it is a profitable business for us... we are driving the business to be a profitable business," some of the strongest language we've heard that Google intends to fully convert Android from a hobby into an integral part of its financials going forward.

On a related note, the company also boasted on the call that it's "seeing more than 60 thousand devices sold and activations daily," which -- by our rough math, anyhow -- would work out to close to 22 million Android activations annually. Certainly seem like these guys have cemented their position as a mobile powerhouse, doesn't it?

The 800 number?

Edit:
Update 3: We've confirmed that the phone will be up for pre-sale at Best Buy starting on the 18th, and per usual, this route will ensure you get the handset for $199.99 sans any mail-in rebate hassles.

From: http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/15/htc-droid-incredible-officially-official-for-verizon-april-29-f/

My only concern is figuring out how to get my discount through BB.

Online or the 800 number either one. It's a different number than the cust service line though. My last 5 phones have been done this way and everytime they apply the rebate instantly and put the charge on my bill.

Anyone know the difference between the HTC Desire and the HTC Incredible? Apart from their looks, they seem to differ only on the camera.

Didn't know they could do that, cool. My issue is that I can get the phone on Sprint and never have to pay monthly at all (my father would just take care of it) or I can get on another relative's family plan if I go Verizon which (I don't really know) might not allow me to order the phone like that. Do you know anything about that?

Regarding the internal memory thing, @tabsina, most Android smartphones come with 4gb or 8gb memory cards anyway, which I prefer for re-use and recycling purposes to internal memory. I use my Zune for all other media so it wouldn't really be too big of a deal for me :-P

Haha, fair enough then

Yeah it usually takes 2 business days to get it by UPS though(I think, might be FedEx), and you have to activate it yourself, but all you have to do is call the activation number. It takes 5 minutes. If you go on a relative's family plan, as long as you're adding a line to their account you are eligible for the rebate and can have the cost put on the bill. They don't do a monthly cost, you have to pay it in full when the bill comes due. I'm not familiar with how Sprint does things though.

8 GB of internal memory. The Desire, Nexus One, and Incredible aren't really that different from each other. The lines blur even more when you put Sense on N1, and that even runs almost perfectly.

i love my Android Nexus One, but my only complaint with Android is the lack of good games and apps(compared to the iPhone) and second is the fact that not all android software is compatible with all Android device since they all have different specs.

almost perfectly.

Where isn't it perfect?

I'm still undecided whether to go Android or iPhone (HD or whatever the next one is). Both phones are great smartphones but it seems like there are more killer apps for iPhone. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If I was to go for the top of the line Android in a months time, barring any major announcements, which would be the one to go for - N1, Desire or Incredible?

Good to know, thanks. I was worried about that because my relatives with Verizon aren't the most tech-savvy bunch and it might be hard to coordinate that kind of thing with them, but that sounds simple enough (they're smart people otherwise). With Sprint it works the same way pretty much, plus despite claims that their service sucks we always manage to get what we want out of them :P

The biggest issue is that bluetooth doesn't work perfectly. But some users have reported that it does. And the top of the line Android device is probably gonna be the EVO 4G on Sprint, but even the Incredible, Desire, and N1 have OLED screens over that. It's mostly a matter of choosing what you like better in a phone.

Guesses on Evo4g/Incredible prices unlocked to Canada? I'm having second thoughts about the X10 due to the back and forth from SE about its capabilities! I have an appointment for next week to get the phone.

They're both CDMA phones for sprint/verizon. it's doubtful that your provider will let you use a CDMA phone that they didn't sell you, even if you use a CDMA carrier

can't speak for the incredible, but yeah...Sprint phones don't come "unlocked". they don't use SIM cards, are CDMA only and use some kind of sprint network verification. No Evo for you :lol

Not sure if this is the right thread, but before I had it set that my wallpaper spawned across three screens instead of the same wallpaper on each screen. Now it's the same wallpaper on each screen and the wallpaper doesn't stretch to fit the screen turned horizontal. >.<

I've got my eyes on a Dynavin LCD unit for my car, and it got me wondering if anyone has an Android HU in the works. It seems to me that this is a pretty obvious direction the OS should take, but I haven't heard squat. I'm thinking that a $200 handset does more than any car stereo on the market. Android 2.1 will be nav unit, media player, mobile network, bluetooth and productivity rolled into one. PEACE.

Do any of you use screen protectors? If so, what's a good value?

Do I really have to shell out 20 bucks for a good one?
