Hey, I'm currently looking for a nice Android smartphone and I'm wondering if the current 1.5 and 1.6 devices (more specifically, the Hero or the Tattoo) will get updates for Android 2.1?

edit: Thanks for the reply.. but after some research I think I'm going to wait until the HTC Legend or Desire arrive.

Yes. Hero definitely will.

We don't know anything about the screen type or resolution yet do we?
I was under the impression that it was basically an HD2, WVGA LCD. If not, then I'll be very, very happily proven wrong :D

HTC's and Motorola's devices should.

Where do you think HTC's naming conventions will go from here? The HTC Fantastic? The HTC Unbelievable? They're working themselves into a corner.

unless you buy the unlocked Aussie version, which works with ATT's 850/1900 band

once the rumors came out that ATT was getting an android phone i wondered how they can possibly fuck it up... they decided to show me

It begins.

It began two and a half years ago.

Now it's just getting interesting. :D

Google should have used their Superbowl spot to plug the Nexus One imo.

Oh man. I've wanted an Android phone for so long. $529 to try it is a huge sum though. I don't want to get rid of my 3gs yet either

Don't worry... I think they'll be bringing the heat in just a few days :D

Couple of new stories for android-GAF today:

Wall Street Journal reports that it expects CEO of Sprint Hesse to make the Supersonic the centerpiece of Sprint's CTIA presence next week (fuck yeah!)

1.6 gets a bit of love with Gesture Search Support

now THAT'S what I'm talking about. The supersonic is hot shit on a taco

The only problem is their limited 4G network upgrade rollout this year.

the 4g network has already been rolled out. I have it in philly (and am using it through clear as my primary home internet) it's fast as hell. the rollout this year is just for additional markets- they're actually surprising me with the coverage so far, I didn't think it'd be nearly as expansive as it is at this point.

it's also 3g capable, and sprint's 3g is nearly as robust as verizon's. there is no downside to this phone.

Man I can't wait for CTIA it should be awesome so many phones to choose from between the Nexus One, Incredible and the Supersonic but don't think I can wait for the Supersonic.

It sucks living in Miami, because we might be one of the last to get 4G. 3G is fast enough, but 4G would be much better. PEACE.

It's on like Red Dawn. Now I can choose between this and the Supersonic. I hate the trackball (the lump), so I'm actually leaning towards the Supersonic. But I'll wait and just get the one with the best specs. PEACE.

all we know for certain is that the SS definitely has a larger screen, but other than that no one knows anything about the specs.

I guarantee you it wouldn't make sense to release it with WORSE specs than the nexus one though, especially if the rumors about sprint making this their flagship phone are true.

Yes, but they're network isn't very extensive. I was speaking about their plans for expansion for this year.

So I finally replaced my old G1 with a new G1, and it's nice to have a phone without several cracks in the screen and looking like it had been launched out of a cannon into a granite quarry.

I was thinking of just using my upgrade to get a myTouch, but then I figured if I'm going to get a phone without a keyboard I'll just get the Nexus or wait for something else.

Anyway, I posted this question in the stupid questions thread, but it'll probably be ignored: Do I really need to charge a new cell phone battery 12 hours before I use it? Does it make that big of a difference in battery life?

HURRY UP SPRINT! Damn it...

Well hot damn. They heard my cries for Nexus One!! :lol

now: SS vs N1

anyone have any predictions on a release date for Sprint N1? I know nothing has been said yet.

It'll likely be sales suicide for them any later than very early Q3 so hopefully by mid-April. The hardware already exists so I don't see why they wouldn't have them rolling out almost immediately. Just stamp a Sprint logo on em and they're good to go.

Hrm maybe they'll launch both the Sprint and Verizon ones at CTIA... nah. Would be pretty cool though.

The ONLY thing that was going to make me think twice about switching from android to iPhone came true.

Fuck. What to do, what to do.

Android FTW.

You'd want an iPhone now or wait until the new one this summer?

that's the only option if you're going to buy an iPhone D: buying one now would be completely asinine unless you just had money to burn.. in which case you might as well get the N1 for now.

I was hoping with the way Sprint kept tlaking about "release date coming soon" so much, even putting it in the title of their press release, that it might come out at CTIA maybe? The AT&T N1 came out of nowhere...

I know, but so many people do it. I don't get it.

I know, that's why I'm going to wait. I was like 90% sure I was going to hop off the android bandwagon and just give my hero to my ball 'n chain girlfriend and get an iPhone for me but now I'm not so sure. the N1 is such a sexy looking device.

On a side note, it's pretty fascinating to watch google vs. apple. I'm still surprised the iPhone is only on at&t. i know they had a contract, i don't know if an exclusivity deal is still in play but if it's not, it's funny to see google launching their flagship device on all four major carriers and apple's only on one.
