SO when are the games coming out Andrex? Get to work!

Soon! I hope. First step is getting the Replica Island source code to compile correctly. :P

If anyone wants to help me out with art/graphics it'd be most appreciated.

Is it recommended to do a clean install before rooting? I'm trying to root my Incredible, but I can't complete this tutorial. I always get stuck on the adb shell part.
I didn't need to do a clean install and I haven't read of people needing to do that either. Rooting the Incredible takes a bit of luck, you don't often get it on the first try and there isn't a 100% confirmed way to do it.

Called Best Buy to see about the Droid X pre-order, was given some strange news. Apparently only customers who are on non-data phones are eligible for the bumped up upgrade date. I really hope this isn't true when VZW puts the phone for sale on their site.

I have a BBerry Storm and I'm eligible for an upgrade on Aug. 25th. I hope I don't get the shaft just because I've given VZW more money over the years. I'll have to call a couple of other places and I'll need to call VZW when it's closer to the launch date.

I called VZW over the weekend to make sure that I'd be eligible for the early upgrade, and they confirmed that I would. We have only data phones on our plan (my wife has a BlackBerry Curve and I have the OG Droid).

I'm having my Eris replaced with an LG Ally. I've had nothing but issues with this Eris and am so happy to have it replaced with a physical keyboard phone, unfortunately I was on the phone with VZW for what seemed like forever. 66:22 minutes =/

This Ally decent? I just really Facebook, twitter, text, Feed RSS and SportsTap- so hopefully this gives me no issues.

Yeah the Ally is decent. Somewhat-stock Android 2.1 with a keyboard, can't really go wrong with that.

this question from another forum, but the guy called BB and was told "... only customers who are on non-data phones are eligible for the bumped up upgrade date"
is this true
No. What we were told along with the document up there both state existing smartphone users can do it.

They can't get enough AMOLED screens from Samsung... especially now after Samsung just put the Galaxy S on all the major carriers.

Anyone know why my EVO doesn't show the decibel signal strength in the settings? I remember it on my Hero but I can't remember if it was taken out in 2.1 or something.

Thanks for the reply, I just need something with a damn keyboard. They refused to give me a Moto Droid unless I paid 239.99 for a refurb'd one..ugh no thanks.

No way in hell this is true. Just the Samsung Behold II costs $380 out of contract through T-Mobile, and the MyTouch Slide is $430.

That's blasphemy!! Hardware keyboard and all, the Nexus One is a much better buy. If I had $430.00 to spare on a phone I would just save a little more and get a Nexus.

Nobody ever claimed that the phone prices in the US are reasonable.

No kidding. My brother recently damaged (water) his MyTouch3G, which was under insurance. Replacing it will cost him just $130.00. Seriously? On a MyTouch3G? A phone that was already underpowered from the get go?

So I finally stopped flip-flopping and cancelled my iPhone4 order and ordered a Desire this morning, only to find out it won't be delivered until 9th July. NooooOOooooOOOOoooo!

Oh well, looking forward to messing with my first smartphone. Is the OP to the android software thread a one-stop shop for when it comes?

Yes, it should be. Not sure if Andrex has updated the OP with some of the newer Apps on the market though. But just ask away...Gaffers will answer.

Well I'm a bastardized ATT user who's flip-flopped between the shitty ATT Android selection of devices and the iPhone 4. After the fiasco with the iPhone 4, Apple's disdain of it's customers and my wifes bad luck with her iPhone, I'm back on the Android bandwagon for sure.

I know it's far from the best Android device, but the Aria is competent, despite the lack of support for installing unofficial apps (which I hear there are workarounds) so I will be going with that. After reading many reviews, I'm glad to hear/see how quick it is even though it's only sports a 600 MHz proc and 384 MB RAM.

It's no Evo or Nexus One, but I'm still damn excited.

I guess, I don't know why they didn't put a camera flash on the phone (I've seen pics of dark area photos that look nice, but you need a super steady hand), and why they took off the front facing camera. I would rather have the Vibrant if it kept the Galaxy S stuff and added a flash. Touchwiz looks stupid, but with a root you could most likely just make it vanilla.

Y'all see the stuff on the Gingerbread?

sounds like it's on par with the HTC hero (about 528Mhz) which is mid to low end at this point. In no way is this on par with the Iphone4, or any of the current top tier Android devices (which I suppose is kind of the point, with AT&T dicking around with android support this way.) I also don't give it good odds of getting upgraded to 2.2 anytime soon, given the specs and the fact that it's on AT&T.

If you're sticking with AT&T, get the iphone. if you're serious about a competitive android phone, drop AT&T and grab an incredible, Droid X, Evo, Galaxy S, etc.

Nexus One lives to see another update. I think it will get the H update as well but after that is probably pushing it.

if you havent bought anything you can hold on for the Galaxy (whatever ATT is calling it), it'll be the highest spec ATT phone for a while

H update? Edit... nevermind. Brain just put that together lol.

Anyway with this news, I don't know about requiring 1GHz to run a phone OS. Seems a little.... bloated to me. As a N1 user, I would be in the clear for Gingerbread, but my phone is blazing on Froyo so hopefully that keeps up.

Anyone looking for a car mount that works with a case/skin or naked might want to check this mount from Arkon out:

ipm514.jpg

http://www.arkon.com/iPhone_4_Car_Mount.php
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZM3hqrcnk4

It's under the iPhone page but it works for pretty much any Android (or any slate style for that matter) phone except for the gigantic ones like the HD2 / EVO. I had their air vent one with the universal holder a few years ago and it worked quite well, that one would work for the bigger phones like the EVO.

I'm glad someone made a car mount that doesn't look terrible.

Asked in the Incredible thread but this one seems more active:

Will this 16GB MicroSD card work for the Incredible?
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDHC-SDSDQ-016G-A14F-Frustration-Free-Packaging/dp/B003AM8A0W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1277924587&sr=8-1

I assume it will but thought I would check.

Also anyone have the big battery for it from Verizon? Does it make the phone much more bulky? How much life is added?

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessory?action=accessoryDetails&archetypeId=12174

Any cases exist for the bigger batteries?

As for the microSD, according to phonescoop, the Incredible can accept up to 32 GB card.

http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=2708

A microSD card is a microSD card, so yes.

Edit: MicroSD is up to 2 GB. Anything larger has to be MicroSDHC due to technical limitations. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroSD

I want to buy android phone in coming weeks, and I left with HTC Desire and Galaxy S.
I'm almost sure I'll end up with Galaxy S, but maybe there's some advantage of HTC I'm not seeing. It's slightly cheaper (but I'd had to buy 8/16GB card), both have custom UIs.

I'm fairly certain that HTC Sense is the best customization of Android.

UK-GAF

T-mobile selling the Pulse for £99.99 on PAYG. There is an official 2.1 update out on the web (think its from Hungarian t-mobile) and modaco are doing their own thing with it. Thinking of getting it myself.

So I am ditching the living shit out of my Storm and decided to go with Android over windows because I use the Google cloud much more and have no social website accounts, so I do not need that kind of integration.

So this leaves the question:

Droid X
Big ass screen and awesome specs. July 15th release.

Droid Incredible
Very nice but smaller screen and awesome specs. Can't get until the 27th.

Droid 2
Lesser specs but physical keyboard.

Obviously I will have to go to a Verizon store and play with a touchscreen and keyboard but is the Droid X decidedly better than the Incredible?

There's no clearcut winner, but I'd say yeah. Bigger screen, some cool tricks like 3 microphones and a front facing camera. It should be the new king of all phones.

Biggest deciding factor for me would be the size of the devices. I don't want a phone that's as big as the Droid X so I would go with the Incredible because it's just about the perfect size for me. I like the Droid X specs, but I like the better pocketability of the Incredible more.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't believe the Droid X has a front facing camera.

Obviously, the screen size/overall screen size is going to probably be the key decider for you, but as an (overly satisfied) Incredible owner, some things to consider...

-DInc runs Sense UI, which, in my opinion, is fucking awesome. Maybe you can get them from the market (don't think so, but I'm not 100%), but the widgets are crazy time and, other than the bottom banner/drawer, much prefer it to stock Android.
-The screen on the DInc is stellar; 3.7" AMOLED = gorgeous.
-The phone is small and very pocketable.
-The meat and potato specs vs. the Droid X are very similar.

Obviously, you're needs and tastes are going to vary, but generally speaking, I'm not a fan of 4.3" screens as it adds way too much bulk and size to the phone. 3.7"-4" is my sweet spot. Also, the DX design is...eh. Just sayin'...
