No such luck on the Verizon discount, either for my current or former employer. Bummer. But AT&T's service is good enough around here to have me considering the switcharoo. I know it's nuts to switch from Verizon, but 22% is literally $30 off my phone bill every darn month.

And I was saving up for a netbook... but the Nexus One literally looks like it has most of the things I was looking for... Jesus, it is sexy!

Check Verizon's website to see if you get a discount there too. I do and I was never even told about it by my employer. They offer discounts to TONS of companies. From what I understand, some employers don't even know their employees get discounts. They're just given out to any company that has a business contract with Verizon.

I hope the HTC Incredible turns out to be awesome. I've been due for an upgrade since early March (still have my shitty LG Dare) and have been biding my time. I'm deciding between the Incredible or waiting on the BB Tour 2, but I think I'll go with the HTC if it lives up to the hype.

Having an upgrade around this time sucks though. It's too far away to wait until the holiday season for WM7 or possible LTE phones :(.

Just had it restart on me. But I think it was the application Astro. I'd just installed it and it seemed to really kill the phone. Shitty app is shitty.

Oh man, I've been having crazy weird problems in the past two days since I updated Astro - notifications never showing up, settings menus constantly crashing, and even having to force close android itself. Maybe I should try uninstalling it...

I was thinking about picking up the zdroid this weekend. It would be my first smart phone.... but I recently heard about the rumored HTC Incredible so I don't know whether to wait or not.

Verizon?

Droid is good + keyboard
Incredible will be good, no keyboard
Then there's Nexus One for Verizon which is cool but might as well go Incredible.

Pretty easy to choose.

yeah, my bad it was a typo. I meant I was thinking about getting a droid.

I am with T-Mobile and my contract ends in 3 weeks. I am pretty sure I will be sticking with them again and will be getting an Android phone. My problem is that all the android phone that I have seen in their store are pretty lacking. I really like the playing around with my friend's droid, but the most similar phone tmobile has is the Cliq and the G1 which are seriously lacking in the performance from what I read.

So it seems my only option is the Nexus One. I would really like an Android phone with a slideout keypad and a fast processor and I don't see anything coming out within the next 3 months that would satisfied my requirement. So should I just go ahead and get a Nexus or wait?

yeah i removed it and rebooted and the phone is flying again now... poor Desire!
even a shitty app can kill a great phone!

Is there a good QWERTY Android phone for T-Mobile?
nexus one is currently the best phone out there but there are a slew of new phones coming down the pipe like the htc desire.

edit: oh qwerty? i dunno.

You are awesome. The university I work for has a deal with AT&T, so I figured I didn't get a VZW discount, but I checked and I get 20% on service. Thanks!

Now we'll see who has the best phones in the next few months or so and go from there.

As someone looking to switch to verizon soon (please make it over iPhone!), I noticed that I actually get a better deal in the long run. I get the same 15% discount on both, but Verizon counts unlm. texting at the plan level so you get a bigger discount + I get a 12% discount on the data package.

So, I just ordered a HTC Legend. Was waiting for the X10, but now I find out the damn thing has Android 1.6 and I don't want to wait for an upgrade. Plus, the Legend seems to have a better screen. Did I make the right call?

Yeah. The legend has gotten a lot of praise, and the x10 has gotten a lot of "eh".

Got to properly test out the camera on the Desire.today at the zoo. Handled itself exceptionally well, especially as the weather was awful. Quality of pics are cool. Will post some up over the weekend.

I also found the stock video player hidden within the camera application.......how daft!!!!!

Nope. So far the phone has been amazing. Had an issue but that was down to Astro.

I love this phone and that's coming from a 3GS.

I PLAY A 800*480 video clip encoded at 2068kbps and it handles a dream. And looks better than anything I've seen on my Samsung HDTV!!!

Just ensure before you add contacts that you untick the Facebook sync contact numbers as it misses off the + before country numbers rendering you unable to do anything with it.

Well, I'm jumping into last year's tech with both feet, Verzizon sent me a text today saying that I was eligible for an upgrade a year early if it was to a smart phone. considering All I was waiting on was the contract renewal discount I jumped on it. I was really curious about the Pre, but I can't help but feeling like Web0S will be the dreamcast of cell phones; a beautiful failure.

I checked through the options and it seems like it's still the droid, which is probably why they are letting me upgrade early, as the new hotness is on the way it seems.

I'm super pumped, and I have some Android application ideas I can't wait to start working on :).

Can anyone compare iTunes Agent vs. Doubletwist for me?

I'm trying to prepare for my eventual Android purchase of the Incredible :-D

Not sure on itunes agent but Doubletwist works fine. although sending could be improved speed wise.

How about Songbird? I really wish Mozilla would make it less of a resource hog.

How the hell can it be a successful iTunes-alternative, if it can't improve on the one flaw everyone hates about iTunes?!

Okay guys, I'm really struggling here between the X10/NexusOne/Evo4G*

X10: Sleek, sexy styling. Great hardware and does everything I want it to do except live wallpapers...

N1: Google's phone. Always gets updates first, comparable hardware, tried and tested. Don't like the look at all.

Evo4G: We haven't even got pricing yet, probably won't work as is on Rogers here in Canada. Runs 2.1 and is a hardware monster. Plus HTC has a lot of experience with the platform.

The X10 launches here next week in Canada for $549 no contract, the N1 is...$549 from Google and runs 2.1 unlike the X10 with 1.6.

Am I really missing anything apart from the live wallpapers here? I'd rather get the phone subsidized at $149 from Rogers instead of ordering the N1 for $500 bones. Now if I had pricing on the Evo4G and it landed around $500, I'd be all over it. I was so hyped for the X10, but SE's smugness and pretentious bs has really turned me off of it, especially the multitouch debacle.

Tell me about it. Other than Evo4G which isn't really a choice for me, it kinda sucks that there's no one phone that's clearly better than the rest. They all come with their cons which makes the decision difficult. Someone just stole my phone too ;/, I think I need to find someplace that will let me test out all the phones in person.

X10 doesn't have the hardware for multitouch, I believe? That would be a dealbreaker for me. And 1.6.

I'm in the same boat as some others. I can do a early renewal with Verizon (and I so want to get rid of this turd called a BlackBerry Storm.)

I've been reading up on the Nexus One (which I hear Verizon is getting soon,) the HTC Incredible, and the Samsung Galaxy S.

Not sure how long I should wait.

the x10's screen is a generation behind the likes of the N1/desire ..no dual/multi touch ..and i wouldn't bet agasint that being the reason you hear all these complainst about it being less responcive.

don't think i saw a single show vid of the thing with out some one having to touch an icon a few times...

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the Cliq XT, only because I'm talking to someone willing to let a new one go at $175. I really like the N1, but the subsidized price is a bit steep for me. So...does anyone have any feedback for the XT they can share? Is it worth it?

I've been meaning to jump into the Android scene again (again) and have been waiting forever to get a phone. I like T-Mobile, I'm off contract and my plan would run me $59.99...and I won't pay more than that so switching carriers is out of the question.

It's 1.5, so you don't have access to some stuff, like Google Maps Nav, or any of the 2.1 features, but then again you do have more than standard Android because it runs blur, with more homescreens, Flash lite, pinch to zoom, Swype keyboard, an "enhanced" music player, a nice 5mp camera w/flash, etc. It's obviously not a phone the most hardcore Androiders dream of, but it is a solid phone with nice styling and a pretty good choice if you're not looking to switch carriers or throw $530 for a N1. It's a nice phone for the price.

I don't know if you've checked out any Youtube videos but I'd spend a few minutes checking out some reviews on there to get a feel for what it is.

How many people use the emulators available on the Market? I bought a couple SNES/GB games recently but dont want to go through the trouble of ripping them if the emulators available are worthwhile.

EDIT: I'll ask this is the software thread as well, since I asked this in the wrong thread :\ dumb eyesight.

To add, I cant wait for the HTC EVO. Might end up eating the cost up front since I wont have a upgrade anytime soon :(

Is there a release schedule for Sprint's Android phones (besides EVO)?

My contract is up this month, and I want to stay on Sprint to save money but the phones right now are meh.

Ok so I was just browsing the pitiful amount of Android phones available in Canada now. Rogers has this HTC Magic+ phone and I wonder what's the difference between that and regular HTC Magic ? Also, how does it measure up compared to the Nexus One ? Are there any plans to tie the Nexus One with Rogers or whatever on a contract ? Phones are expensive :(

Its the same phone afaik. Just the + is the updated one that can dial 911 properly.. ;)

The Magic is old and slow compared to the newer Android phones like the Nexus, Milestone, X10, etc.

Get a nexus one!! :D Or go to Telus and get a Milestone.

I see I see, this sucks for Canadians then :( I don't want a Milestone though because I don't like its rectangular shape. I like curve edges :lol

Not sure if this is the right place, but what's the main difference between a Google developer phone and a retail one? Just root access and unlocked, right? I'm planning to make a small project using the phone in place of a microcontroller, but I'm trying to decide on whether to buy the developer phone or a retail one.
