the 1st one i ordered wouldn't connect to my Desire, my w610i nor my ps3, so i sent it back and awaiting the replacement.

but yeh physically ..really impressed. hate how sony do those uneven leangth headset cords tho

Sorry to hear that...these thing happen with electronics.
The only hiccup I've encounter is when I walk into my apartment...but I think it's just the Nexus finding it's Dock in range. Other than that I'm very pleased with the MW600.

Yup the left cord is way shorter than the right one...But then I figured that the right earbud needs to hang over your neck (behind it). This way the extra cord length is not dangling in front of you.

it's prob that way so tht the thng is near yr mouth for voice calls....but meh ..i'm purely wanting it for audio playback. big o'l loops of cord behind around my neck is not a good look, or comfortable. still ..nothing stopping me buying other headphones to plug into it.. :)

Tmobile leading the way with android phones yet again. I will have too give emerald some thought. Could give my nexus one to my lady and pick this up for myself. We'll see if they fuck with android like I expect they will.

Just a wandering though: how long are the start-up times on the Incredible, Evo 4G, and Nexus One?

For the Droid and some other devices I've played around with, it's pretty long. I hope when Android comes to tablets and netbooks, the boot-up is faster. Same goes from Chrome OS.

Start up time isn't particularly long on my Nexus, though I can't say I've timed it. To be honest the only time I ever need to switch it off is when taking a flight. Other than that, silent mode will do the trick, so start up time isn't something I've ever been concerned about. Certainly shouldn't factor into any buying decision.

Speaking of Android hardware:

Huang revealed that by the end of the year we can expect to see some Android phones running Tegra 2 to hit the market, although he wouldn't reveal who would be making them.

One handset-maker he was happy to single-out, however, was Apple - identifying its A4 SoC as Tegra 2's primary competitor, as opposed to Qualcomm's Snapdragon or TI's OMAP (Intel's Moorestown wasn't even mentioned).

"Although it made sense for the first-generation androids to use available phone processors, the follow-on generations of Android are really going to go after performance," said Huang. "And iPhones are out there, the iPhone 4G is coming, the iPad is obviously a revolutionary product. The bar is pretty high for all of the mobile players, and so they need a processor that can keep up with the A4. If not, be much better than what the A4 can do because they have to take on the leader in the space.

"And so I think the second-generation Tegra has been doing incredibly well because Android is doing incredibly well. So we're going to come to market with the second-generation Tegra with the third-generation Android."

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time NVIDIA has publicly spoken so strongly of a focus on Android for Tegra. Apple has its own chip, Nokia is in bed with Intel and Microsoft has thrown NVIDIA's commitment back in its face, so that only really leaves Android anyway, but now it's official.

There are a couple of other mobile platforms out there: BlackBerry and WebOS, and we wouldn't be at all surprised to see NVIDIA court HP quite heavily over its newly acquired OS, which is expected to appear in a tablet before long.

Introducding the HTC Wildfire

Where it diverges from its predecessors is in offering a new app sharing feature -- which simply gives you the ability to invite your friends, via Twitter, Facebook, or email, to download an app you really like off the Android Market -- and deeper Facebook integration than we've previously seen. The latter now means that when you receive or place calls to your friends, you automatically see their Facebook profile picture, latest status update, and birthday if it's coming up soon. Sort of a lazy man's social phone, but we reckon that can be quite a useful thing for the targeted demographic of college students. HTC openly admitted to shooting for the same crowd as Microsoft's Kin, intending to make this phone both as cheap and as easy to text, email and socialize with as possible.

Looks like the hero got a face lift. An android for every person. Not the greatest of specs, but this is it seems like it will go after the value crowd that wants to test the waters of android.

yeah, that hardware is getting a bit long in the tooth but this should be perfect for casual users- especially if this device can eventually get the speed/performance boost that goes along with 2.2

Anyone have any experience with the HTC Desire? Will it work on a T-mobile 3g band? Kind of want to get it, but not sure where either.

Edit: Or should I just get the N1, since I'm in the US and on T-mobile's network? :lol

Seems like a facelift for the Tattoo. The Hero already has a refresh in the form of the Legend, and it sounds like this phone is going to be aiming for a much cheaper price than the Hero.

Actually it's more a cheap hero than anything. It's got a capacitative screen (HTC has said they've learnt their lesson with the tattoo and won't be touching resistive again) and it's also 3.2". The components to build it have probably become cheaper and the outer shell is much cheaper looking than the Hero with teflon and Legend with the unibody aluminium design.

They mean for it to spread like wildfire - the hero was sort of their flagship product and I'm led to believe it did quite well. This is another iteration for it built for the masses.

I think.

Salute to the pioneer!

Engadget EVO4 review is up

Anyhow, Hotspot seriously couldn't be easier to use: you activate it either through a dedicated Launcher icon or the EVO's settings menu (or a home screen widget, if you're into that sort of thing), you set your SSID name, your encryption type, and your password -- and that's it. Boom, you're surrounded in a cloud of life-giving WiFi. We connected the EVO to a couple of laptops we have lying around, and it worked great over both 3G and 4G. In fact, it worked so well that we'd argue it obsoletes dedicated mobile hotspot devices like the Overdrive and MiFi, because we were getting speeds as high as 7.5Mbps down and nearly 3Mbps up on WiMAX.

hero 2.1 update is out today and i'm going on 6 hours now trying to install this fucker. god i fucking hate this piece of shit phone.
Had it up and running within 20 minutes yesterday. What's your issue? A friend of mine had some problems and I told him to restart his phone and it worked out.
Also, the update is great. Hope it works out for you.

How do I do the Sprint Hero update if I'm on a custom ROM?

The zip won't install from the boot menu. I'm gonna try and nandroid back to my original config, and then try the update that way, but if someone running a custom ROM could kindly give me instructions or link to them, I'd be grateful.

I have the 2.1 zip file from Sprint.com, and HTC Sync, if that matters. PEACE.

EDIT: Hmmm, I might be having a blonde moment. I think I just run the exe from the zip and that's it. WTF was I thinking?

If you want to root do NOT flash the Sprint RUU. It hasn't been rooted yet so if you like things like tethering stick with the custom ROMs (which are still based off of the newest release).

Every ROM I've used is buggy in some way. It may be a small thing, but it'll nag me to the ends of the earth. I expect the new one to be rooted, and if not, I'm getting an Evo Day1 anyway. Thanks for the heads up though. I'm sure someone else will find it useful. PEACE.

Yeah that's understandable...especially if you're gettin an Evo!

So I just quit Best Buy and I'm still on the Sprint retailer plan ($20 a month), is it bad that I'm all of the sudden turning ethical and telling myself I should go to a consumer plan and buy an Evo? I hate my tech addiction...

crossposting this from the google announcements thread because maybe this where all you nerds hang out but I want some background.

I'm in canada, on rogers, will we be getting 4g any time soon? whats the best android on the horizon for us? what if I wanted to buy something late summer early fall to use my iphone's sim card in? what should I be pining over?

Urgh. So I've put on a custom 2.1 rom and now when I click Phone, I get all my facebook contacts in the list too. Yet there is no tick in the show facebook contacts.

How do I get it to just display my real contacts and have the phone synched to fb too?

there is an option for that in the pref. I had the same problem.

Hi Gaf, I am new to smart phones and I am looking to buy my 1st phone. I really like the LG Ally because of the droid software and the keypad, but I am not sure if its a good phone (i realize its not yet released).

The other phone I am looking to get is the HTC incredible but the only reason I dont like that is because it has no keyboard.

With that said should I just get the motorolla? Or are there any other phones such as these. Thanks!

Sounds like you're with Verizon, you should get the Motorola Droid if you want a good phone with a keyboard. Not the HTC Droid Eris which is an average'ish phone with no keyboard. Verizon seems to just like calling their Android phones "Droid" such and such. If you want a great phone and can get used to using only software keyboard, I'd definitely get the Incredible over the Droid though.

yea Im on verizon, I am tempted to go with a touchscreen just because it seems alot of the better phones do not have a touch keyboard. I am not a fan of the iphone keyboard so I am hoping this one will be alot better. But then again I have to wait another 3 weeks >_>

Ally is a decent phone. Meh processor but aside from that it has all the bases covered, even has a much better keyboard than the Droid according to reviewers.

The Droid is better than the Ally, from what reviews have said. It has a bigger screen, nicer look and layout, and is the most popular Android phone, so you'll have Verizon and Motorola pressed to keep people happy with updates. (edit: The Ally does seem to have the better keyboard, although it puts the spacebar in the line of the letters between v and b which annoys me to no end. I have no problem with the Droid keyboard, so everyones different. When I say layout I refer to the front of the phone, reviews have panned the Ally for having both capacitive and hard buttons on the front. 2 of the hard buttons are for call end and call answer, while there are two capacitive touch buttons above the 4 hard buttons. It's understandably an awkward set up.)

I'd go Droid over the Ally, unless you really, really like the Ally and just can't deal with the Droid for some reason. If you've ruled out the Incredible based on your criteria without trying it, it's worth a shot. It doesn't have a physical keyboard but the screen is big, the HTC customized Android keyboard is very smart, and it has haptic feedback, so you may end up liking it (which would benefit you, as it's the fastest Android phone on the market right now). Or not. But it's worth a shot.

Get the Droid or the Incredible. I think the Droid is close enough to the Eris in price that it makes the most sense. OTOH, the Incredible is even better and will last you much longer. PEACE.

HTC Incredible seems to be the choice, I love the Motorolla Droid I just want something newer (sorry), ive passed on every smart phone until now so I figure ill get the greatest of e great! (that verizon has to offer)

Is there any game-changing Android device due to land within then next two months? At the moment the Desire seems like the one to get, and its certainly top of my wishlist, just wondering if anything that will rival or at least pose a headache to potential customers is expected to land before my contract is up.

(Note: UK, so no US-carrier only phones please!)

No one knows. but the next generation of android phones will probably be late summer.

So a good friend of mine is planing on getting an evo 4g on day one. He currently has a hero that he bought maybe 2 months ago. Also bought one for his wife. Anyways he got those phones by doing a new contract as his was up. So when he goes to get the evo he will pay full price. His wife also wants to get one.

He wants to sell off his hero one or both to me for 150ish each.

Is this reasonable.
Going by prices on ebay it seems so.

Also does anyone think the hero will see 2.2 update?
I read all 2010 phones probably would but hero doesnt fall in there does it ?

Hrm, that's not the 2.2 YouTube widget... Also those buttons look small, but that could just be because the screen is massive (4.3 inches right?)

query: how come there are no Android mp3 players like the Ipod Touch or the Zune? I thought there would be something, but the closest I could get was that Archos tablet

There's the Creative Zii, but it's a dev-only version for now.

Dunno why more people haven't jumped on that though, seems like a no brainer. Perhaps getting Google to OK it for their apps would hold it back some.

If that's the Droid 2, then I'm pissed. The world of Android opens a lot of annoying shit that you can excuse or justify, even if you don't like it. But Motorola and Verizon releasing a successor something like 6 months after the first? Wtf, calm down.
