Wow at verizon killing the incredible so fucking soon. :\

dude these phones are coming out so fast 7 or 8 months is practically an eternity. And it's not "killing" the droid- it will most likely remain for sale, just at a cheaper price for downscale consumers.

you don't see me getting bent out of shape because the Hero is yesterday's news due to the EVO and Incredible, do you

They pretty much are. The Incredible comes out in May and this phone comes out two months later? Goddamn.

I'm getting an Evo, so I don't really care. :lol

I was just saying.

I don't understand why you think this means they're killing the Incredible. They can't have more than one slate Android phone? They're different flavors of Android anyhow.

The Ally isn't the death of the Devour or Droid.

By killing I don't mean not putting it up for sale. By killing I mean destroying all hype for it. Once the Shadow comes out, why even get the Incredible? But I'll have to see more details first.

It doesn't matter really >_>

According to that forum for the Shadow.. it seems like the processor is 720MHz compared to 1GHz on the incredible.. it isn't all bad to have an Incredible

The Incredible has Sense UI whereas this appears to be running some new Motorola skin. I'm confused about why you think the customer is going to automatically want the Shadow over the Incredible.

Some people don't want a huge 4.3" screen phone to carry around. That's the problem with Sprint's Android offerings at the moment. The only way to get modern hardware is in the 4.3" form factor of the EVO, there's no smaller option. With this Motorola phone at least Verizon customers have a choice for a smaller phone with the Incredible.

The Shadow is a nice looking phone.

June/July will be an interesting time with the EVO/iPhone/Shadow coming out. My contract is up June 2nd so I have some research on my hands.

:o
That thing looks badass.
Let's hope it's running stock android.

If that's the Droid 2, then I'm pissed. The world of Android opens a lot of annoying shit that you can excuse or justify, even if you don't like it. But Motorola and Verizon releasing a successor something like 6 months after the first? Wtf, calm down.
Droid 2 will have a keyboard. I'm sure.

Awww, there's my baby. Though not in use. I should bronze her. Orrr.... send it to you so the fact that you of all people don't have an android device doesn't constantly be a glaring, glare thingy.

It'd certainly make some aspects of updating these threads easier. :lol

That was MOTOBLUR 2.1 seen on the Shadow there.

Yep, that’s the Motorola Shadow. Or is it the Droid Shadow? This picture was leaked earlier today and appears to be the exact same device that our sources said would be hitting VZW shelves in June. That’s right.
Remember our “Mysterious Father’s Day Device” post? Here are a few of the details…
4.3″ Screen (not AMOLED) (check!)
Moto Blur 2.1 (check!)
Had physical keys (just like HD2) (and check!)
I’d say our sources were once again spot on.
And if you are worried about the MotoBlur, then do not buy this device. Stick it out and wait for the Droid 2 which will be standard Google Experience just like version 1 was.

I think everyone would rather have stock Froyo. Especially since it was a catastrophe getting the Droid bumped .1 to stock 2.1 and none of their Blur devices have been updated yet.

Stock Google (Gingerbread?) and Droid 2 FTW. This will be perfect since my one year upgrade will arrive in November - Just in time for me to go from my Droid to Droid 2.

I love me some Stock Google. :D

No, only the ones that Barnes & Noble put on it (2 games)

Google has hardware requirements for devices to have access to the android marketplace and the Nook or any other ereader do not meet those requirements.

Ah. Well, thanks.

Link to the requirements?

There are some interesting things people are doing with the Nook to get other Android apps on it (the equivalent of "jailbreaking.") Now that the Kindle has an SDK I don't think it'll be long before B&N opens it up.

But besides that, the vast majority of Android apps wouldn't be a good fit for it anyways. I'm sure it'd be beneficial if people tailor-made apps just to the Nook.

I hate my phone, but I think I'm stuck with it.

Fucking T-Mobile has awesome customer service and shitty phones.

G1 or MyTouch?

They were pretty slick when new, but I am sooooooo ready for a new phone. Probably get a Nexus One shortly if no new T-Mobile phones materialize.

This isn't an iPhone - Marketplace isn't the only way to get apps onto an Android device. There are even other marketplaces out there. :) Does the Nook not support installation of other applications via adb or similar?

Not out of the box I don't think.

MyTouch. I wouldn't mind a Nexus, but I really need a keyboard. I may even think about the MyTouch Slide, but that would only add to the problem, I think.

Cross posting.

http://phandroid.com/2010/05/24/t-mobile-expands-hspa-coverage-brings-4g-speeds-to-more-areas/
T-Mobile has brought its HSPA+ coverage to three new areas in the Northeast. If you live in a major city in upstate New York, Connecticut, or in Providence, RI, you can say hello to what T-Mobile is claiming to be 4G-like speeds. If you live in Washington, D.C. or Boston, you won’t have to wait much longer either, as HSPA+ will be finding its way there in the coming weeks.

T-Mobile is promising that their HSPA+ network will benefit several upcoming Android devices, including the myTouch 3G Slide and the Garminfone. The kicker (or what T-Mobile hopes will propel it past the 4G of its rivals…or Sprint)?

“T-Mobile customers with 3G smartphones who live in these areas served by the company’s mobile broadband network are now getting enhanced data speeds without having to buy a new phone or spend additional money.”

And maybe they are on to something, because it sure seems like no one is all too happy about the extra ten bucks a month Sprint is asking them to shell out for 4G speeds on the EVO. From what I’ve read, the speeds of the HSPA+ network do actually compete pretty well with the 4G of Sprint. Hopefully by the time they finish rolling out their new network they will have device that will really make it worthwhile.

Just did a quick speed test from my apartment. Speeds have at least doubled for me.

Go T-mobile!

Since this thread is very active, I'm going to ask here.

When an SMS message is sent to my Google Voice number, it now appears twice. Once in my Google Voice app, and once in my HTC Messages app.

How'd this happen? Kind of annoying! Any way to fix?

Disable notifications in the HTC Messaging app. Problem solved.

Edit: Err, yeah. Disable whichever notification service you prefer to get updates from the least.

You probably have SMS notifications enabled. Just turn that off in GV settings and you should be golden.

Done. This is the real solution.

Fatalah said:
Yes, that WAS the real solution. Thanks!

What exactly was happening here? I'm kind of confused...
It does the SMS forwarding so phones that don't have the Google Voice app can use it too. (Any phone that's not an Android phone that is).

Basically, both apps were set to look for text notifications. Thus, you just got notified twice. You have to be sure to disable at least one of the apps for texts, emails, etc., so you don't get double updates.

Now my brain *gets it*. Whew.

I'm going to test this thread again. My one gripe with my first Android device, is media management -- podcasts in particular.

There has to be a developer out there with a seamless iTunes-like experience on the Android. Does anything come close? (I've tried so many programs, I think I might be going back to Winamp!)

Podcasts - I use Listen. Pulls them right to the phone and syncs what you're subscribed to from your Google Reader account. It is all automatic once you set it up.

As for other media management, I use doubletwist just because it works. Other people have other solutions though, but you will likely have better luck in the Android software thread.

Have you tried doggcatcher? It's a paid app. Well worth the couple of dollars Imo.

Can't you just use iTunes and have an app set up to sync your iPhones Podcast folder to the Android device?

Do I....

Buy a contract-free Nexus One

Wait for T-Mobile to actually come out with a good second-gen Android Phone

Wait until I can get a Nexus One with a contract extension.

I'm impatient, I'm leaning to just jumping on the Nexus One. I think it's all the phone I will need for a long time.
