They want to send me a free ODROID-T or ODROID-S for the small amount of work I did on their forum.
I can... barely think... breathe...Then again, they could be punking me. Keeping hype low.Is it ironic or tragic my first Android device won't have Google's apps?
You don't have an Android device?????Andrex said:Uh, holy shit. So like, not even an hour after that post I got an e-mail... Dunno if I should talk about this just yet, but...

I said wow. As I said in the comments, at the rate that handhelds are evolving, we might not see consoles very much longer. Dreamcast+ level graphics being output at 1080p from a handheld is just amazing. All the sweeter it runs Android.
Full specs:
- Samsung S5PC110 Cortex-A8 1Ghz with 512KB L2 cache
- 3D Accelerator SGX540(up to 20M triangles/s and 1000M pixels/s)
- 512MB Mobile DDR 400Mega data rate
- 3.5inch 480 x 320 (capacitive touch)
- 1080p video playback via HDMI cable
- WiFi/Bluetooth
- Android2.1
- Geo magnetic field sensor
- Accelerometer
Also, small disclaimer, I've become involved in the ODROID/Hard Kernel community, with the hope of contributing to the source code... eventually.
Would be nice to get one of them, though. The originals are all sold out.
Andrex said:I thought I heard they scapped Hummingbird at the last minute and went with Snapdragon.
bigswords said:Nope, tell that to the phone that I am holding in my hands now hahaha.
Andrex said:Not doubting you (maybe I am >.>), but how could you tell something like that? Ignoring spec sheets and stuff.
bigswords said:It says that in the manual? other than a tear down, the only other proof is the videos of the Galaxy S outdoing all other android phones gpu
Andrex said:Huh. That's neat then.
But the Phandroid article says they're both using the same CPU (Samsung S5PC110) and GPU (PowerVR SGX540.) This, combined with the lower res, would make me believe the ODROID-S (hrm, maybe the -S comes from the Galaxy S...) could match or outperform it.
Then again I'm about half-clueless when it comes to nitty gritty tech specs like this. It could be the fact the ODROID-S is using a Cortex A8 while the Galaxy S is using... something better. Dunno how it all fits together, all told. :lol
bigswords said:Well whatever it is, at least you are getting a free android phone, grats on that. No easy feat.
4.3 Screen [LCD]
750Mhz TI OMAP3630 processor [Unconfirmed]
HDMI OUT
Android 2.1
A New Version of Moto Blur (Not as bad as what you may think)
Hardware Navigation Keys

Longer than what though? the Droid is stock Android and it still took over 2 months to get Android 2.1.hermit7 said:That looks awesome. What is the type of screen on it though? The only thing that I dislike is with manufacturer skins it makes it longer to wait for updates.

Man those pictures are hot, I really hope this comes out in early July like rumored.
Yeah I was wondering the same thing it might be 4.1" like originally rumored.XMonkey said:4.3" screen with all that bezel space? Probably going to be quite a bit bigger in person than it looks in the photos.

You're looking at it up above a few posts. That and the Droid 2 seem to be the next big ones coming out, both on Verizon (they really are kicking ass with Android lately...)NightHawk17 said:So i'm tired of my blackberry tour and was going to get an Droid Incredible but since they aren't in stock currently I was wondering if i should wait for another android phone instead, what do you think android-gaf anything better in the pipeline to hold off for?

Chris Pruett said:But the reason that the ODROID is the best device for playing Replica Island isn't just because of the game-like form factor and controls. Unlike most other Android devices, the ODROID is a combination of fast CPU and medium resolution screen. The devices with larger screens tend to be fill-rate bound; though the Nexus One and Droid have extremely capable CPUs and GPUs, the high resolution screens on those devices work against them when it comes to games (it's almost impossible to break 30 fps on those devices via the GPU, though they can crunch really complex scenes at that speed without breaking a sweat). On the other hand, the Magic/Dream class of devices have the same HVGA resolution, but tend to be CPU bound--rendering is fast but I spend quite a lot of time running the game simulation. The ODROID has neither problem--its CPU is pretty fast and its GPU has no problem filling the HVGA display. As a result, Replica Island is silky smooth on the ODROD--a constant, reliable 60fps. Add that to the game-ready control scheme and you have a pretty great game experience.
Pimpwerx said:If Sony is staying in the handheld market, it would be wise of them to make a PSP2 that is a Playstation phone and use Android. Then merge their PSN store with Market somehow. PEACE.
God. Damn. Yeah, I'll hold out for the deets on this. Please be available soon. I'm about ready to set my Blackberry on fire.giga said:
