If you mean the N1, I'd get something newer. If you're talking about the Evo, I wouldn't worry about it feeling old a year or two from now. The screen size sets it apart. PEACE.

Hopefully the N1 gets it's Wireless N and FM transmitter enabled!
Do you mean transmitter or receiver? A transmitter would be cool if it let me play my mp3s through my car fm radio. PEACE.

I know I meant to type transmitter. But I'm not sure which one it is in reality. From Google exploration and searches, I think it is transmitter. But no way to know for sure since it isn't officially listed by Google.

Of the three current crop Motorola Android phones (Quench, Backflip, Dext/Cliq) which is the best example of MotoBlur? Need to buy one this weekend.

Also, to the person wondering about the i5700, it's a good phone.. It has DivX/Xvid capability so it's a pretty good multimedia workhorse.
It's also got two processors: 800Mhz handling the bulk of the OS duties, and 225Mhz taking care of the RF/send/receive functions.
I found it to be zippier than the more expensive Sony Ericsson X10.
A decent phone to get started with Android. It will also probably receive a 2.1 upgrade in the coming months.

The Spica? Already has 2.1 officially! Thanks for the opinion :D Might buy it tomorrow

U serious? I heard there were 3g issues, multitouch issues, and seem lije too much of a hassle to contact google. Dont get me wrong, i do have my eyes on it. But is it worth the 529 dollars?

I was waiting for the Nexus and picked up the Mytouch instead, I have loved every moment. I may take a look at the Galaxy S coming up but I don't regret my decision. The Mytouch may not have the specs of the Nexus one but it is smooth as butter.

Android and Me has the first Droid 2 hardware hands on!

Basically a performance upgrade like the 3GS was to the 3G. And yeah, someone should tell him about white balance.

Yeah you're right. Well even then, the Droid is often overclocked... I just don't see the appeal in this new design.

Yeah, the day Verizon threw its weight behind Android was a huge win indeed.

I knew it was a big day (one that marked the change of the old, "let's take Wi-Fi out because we can" Verizon and the new, "Android/Google rules, yo" one), but Verizon still keeps surprising me. The impact of the largest US wireless telecom throwing its full weight behind Android really cannot be understated.

Have you picked a model for yourself yet?

PS - What's your tag mean?

I think I may get the Droid X, as long as it isn't too big in my hand. I'm really tired off my Blackberry tour, the app store sucks , the track ball is horrible and my contacts keeps deleting itself

-Droid 2...it's okay. Unless you absolutely needed a keyboard, why not just get the DroidX? Guess that's the point.
-Droid X is awesome minus that huge fucking bezel...ugly.
-Droid X teaser is fucking sick. Verizon just owns with those commercials, I wish the Evo would have gotten a commercial like that.
-I saw that someone on XDA got Wireless N activated on the Evo (Here. So if that 2.2 update about the Incredible is true, that means it'll hopefully be headed to the Evo soon as well.

That Droid commercial is pretty crazy. Android definitely owes a lot to Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T haven't done anything to let consumers know what Android is or make it seem cool.

Thanks. I'll flash this later and let y'all know. I'm having trouble getting the damn 2.2 ROM to flash properly. PEACE.

I'd love to get a Droid Incredible or Nexus One, however right now I am receiving a free ODROID-S in the mail. Should be here in the next 2-3 weeks. :)

My tag means... hrm, it's in Ancient Greek, if you can get someone to translate for you. ;)

I give T-Mo a lot of credit, they jumped on Android when nobody else wanted to touch it with a 12-foot pole. They were also the first (and only, officially) to get Google's own phone, too. T-Mobile's image however doesn't really sync up with the "power user" persona, while Verizon's always been somewhat of the "manly" carrier.

Trade offs. Better processor. No 4G. Bigger screen (wowza). No front camera.

But powerwise...yes, yes it will be.
The screen size is the same as the Evo 4.3" Engadget was wrong when they said 4.4.

Son of the anti-christ?

That developer phone you're getting sure is...interesting looking!

Played with a Dell streak at work today, it is an incredibly slick piece of hardware, I think Dell got it right on all fronts. Headphone jack too close to the volume rocker apparently but apart from that it is very nice.

Screen is lovely, I like Dell's spin on the UI (including their music app), device is incredibly responsive.

Will be an even more attractive proposition once 2.2 hits. I will say that you look ridiculous making phone calls on it but if you're anything like me (I barely ever phone people, all text, email etc) then you won't really care.

But those god-awful commercials for the myTouch! I can't forgive those.

I thought they were pretty good. And were the only real Android commercials in the US for a long while.

Ugh. I really wanted to get excited about this, but I'll wait until we get an official date for that. Thanks for the link!

Is the Incredible rooted yet? If so, I could put Froyo on myself then right?

all the phones based on the nexus one should be the same, with wireless n among other things

HTC Desire vs Motorola Droid/Milestone.... any opinions on what comes out on top?

I've used the Desire as my brother has one, but I've never seen the Droid/Milestone out in the retail wilderness. How do the two compare on performance, ui, battery life etc? My main concerns about the Droid are its weight, which seems pretty hefty compared to its rivals, and if the processor speed affects its performance.

One month until my contract is up, its pretty much going to be between these two phones unless something magical gets announced and released within the next 30 days.

I may getting the galaxy s i9000 the next couple of weeks. If I do, I'll post some impressions. Raw Power and SuperAmoLED should make it worth the price.

The Incredible has been rooted, but the process isn't an exact science yet and requires some luck. Also, you can't flash custom ROMs yet, but the ability to do that should be coming in the next few days.

Does anyone know anything about, or even care about the Motorola i1? It came out on the 20th, and it's hard to find anything at all about it.

I'm thinking about getting it. My current phone is a piece of junk that can't do anything, and I've been wanting an Android device for a while, but I don't know if I want to drop the $350 on it. Last I read, it only used Android 1.1, but that was an early build of the phone or something.

Also, for Google's GPS app, do you need to be connected to the Internet the whole time you use it? Ir does it save map data and stuff to the phone?

Why would you do that? said:

It doesn't buffer all map data to storage, but it will at least keep route info buffered if you lose data connection. So, assuming the route is good, you can still follow it while offline.

One major issue is is has Android 1.5 If that is not an issue to you then go for it, but if you want newer features that may hamper your experience.

Okay, that's very nice to know about the GPS thing, thanks.

Hmm... I haven't really been following Android OS too much, so sorry if this question's been repeated a lot, but any big features missing in 1.5 compared to 2.0? Upon searching, I see it supports multi-touch and virtual keys, but I can't find anything else on it...

I'd assume that the vast majority of applications support 1.5 anyway because of the high percentage of users still on it...

Android Software Thread covers 1.5, 2.1, and everything in between. Sorry about the Photobucket things, just know that 2.1/2.2 look a lot nicer than 1.5. Even 1.6 looks nicer.

Ah, I knew I should have checked that thread first! Thanks.

Well anyway, I guess I'll get the phone tomorrow and join the legions of Android users and maybe even try my hand at developing, if I can.
