Ah, I knew I should have checked that thread first! Thanks.

Well anyway, I guess I'll get the phone tomorrow and join the legions of Android users and maybe even try my hand at developing, if I can.

Ah right that's right, you also post in the "make a retro game" thread too. :o

I'll try and give you some tips if I can.

That's right! Also, getting an Android device means I'll actually be able to play your game! (Despite my continued work on my game, I haven't looked in the thread in a while... I really should do that.)

Thanks for offering the help, though. :D

Got tired of waiting for Desire (out of stock here because of display shortages) and got Galaxy S instead... :D

Charging now...

CNBC had the Droid X on just now. I missed it. :( I caught just as they cut away to a studio discussion about the Droid X against the iPhone4. The NY Time guy who got an iPhone4 to review was comparing them, and he was pretty fair for a guy who has to be positive on the iPhone. Droid X has Flash? That's what they were talking about. If so, that must mean it's running Froyo. :o

They're gonna talk about the iPhone4 next fyi. PEACE.

Ok, Droid X looks fucking NICE. I have to say I have a Droid Incredible and I'm jealous, LOL.

I wonder how much Droid X is going for on retail price. Maybe I can get a nice price for my Droid Incredible.

You know what? Fuck that. They can keep their phone.

Oh yea, EVERYONE who can upgrade in 2010 can get the a Droid X early upgrade. Sucks for people who have one in 1-2-11.

They just shouldn't be releasing phones with old software.
Realistically there's a good chance it won't see froyo until early september.. and a new batch of phones will be right around the corner.

They can't release phones with unfinished software so it only makes sense its coming with 2.1 and chances are those new batches of phones won't come with 2.2 either they will have 2.1

I just find it frustrating that
  • Google is launching a new iteration of Android. A pretty major one.
  • Motorola is launching a new phone. A pretty major one.
  • They have the CEO of Google out on stage.
  • They talk some yang about flash and how great it's gonna be.
But oh wait, everyone who buys it will have to play the waiting game with Moto and Verizon just like last year.
Granted, I am pretty damn bitter about how monumentally they screwed up the transition to 2.1 on the Droid. But to be fair, I have no reason to believe it will be any different this time.

I am just waiting to get a Droid. I want a smartphone bad, but want a good performer for a good price. Of course, the original droid is cheap now, so that might be the way, but I want the newest kid on the block if I jump in.

Waits for Droid 2 pricing news while trying to avoid the sexiness of the Droid x screen.

Because of my shifting OS mess this past much I haven't been able to code as much as I wanted to, however I've been doing some of the level designs and conceptual work. Hopefully will be ready to go before long... but I say that a lot.

If you finish yours before mine then I know I really need to kick myself into gear. :P

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Pics and details please. PEACE.

Coming from Nokia and Symbian devices Android feels refreshing and new to me.. :)
a lot of new tricks to learn..

Galaxy S is quite a fingerprint magnet but I guess it's to be expected..
But the screen is pretty nice in person... :D

Phone feels very light in hand.

Here's an image or two (compared to my old Nokia 5800)

And one from the camera

So far I have tried quite a few programs to see what are useful for me...

As a Sprint customer I'm glad Verizon priced their WiFi hotspot at $20, instead of $30. I hope it pressures Sprint to lower their WiFi hotspot pricing this Fall.

On Verizon, isnt mobile hotspot free with the Palm Pre? I was really hoping they would continue this trend with other phones, but it was a little too good to be true.

I'm thinking about upgrading from a Motorola Cliq (decent phone, but kinda slow) to a myTouch Slide. I went to T-Mobile yesterday just to browse around, and I started messing around with the new phones. I love how it looks, how it feels, and I love how much faster it is than the Cliq.

So, do you guys recommend me getting a myTouch Slide, or should I look into a different phone?

I believe someone here recently upgraded from a Cliq to a MyTouch Slide and said it was a pretty big leap. I'd say go for it if you don't have anything holding you back.

Droid X is hot. MotoBlur skin is nice.

Not hot or nice enough to be jealous or switch from Droid, especially with "late summer" Froyo for Droid X.

It's surprisingly easy to sit back and relax with a Droid as new phones shoot out.

Props to Moto for giving Android polish without being tacky like TouchWiz.

Wow! Looks nice. In that second pic, the screen is already looking amazing. Let us know how you like it and how the battery life is. You've obviously heard the Evo stories. :lol PEACE.

Get rid of tha POS Cliq real talk. I had it before getting the EVO phone was gahbage. Anything will be a upgrade over it.

My plan is up and I can get a new phone, but I havent been following to closely. If I get an incredible or an X, will I have to use HTC and Motorola's UI? Is there a way to turn it off without rooting?

Why the hell are cell phones so expensive without contracts? I really want the droid x but i'm in a family plan and my dad won't extend the contract, and it's not like he's going to a different company-_-

Now I gotta figure out a way to make like $600 by July 15th

Well, I don't know how it is with the incredible, but I know that you can easily disable sense on the Evo.

Just do a Google search of "vanilla android on HTC Incredible"

Anyone hear when VZW will have the X up for pre-order?
Still unknown :( but I hope they announce it soon.

It actually can't be disabled on the Incredible like it can on the EVO.

You aren't kidding. I still love my 7 month old Droid. I finally have it rooted, overclocked, and running Froyo. With all of these performance enhancing updates, it almost feels like I'm getting several new phones every year.

Definitely feels like my Incredible is getting lost in the shuffle! Meanwhile its specs and form factor are fantastic!

Never forget!

You guys in the US (and even in Europe!) don't know how lucky you have it :(. Right now the best Android phone in the Canadian market you can get on a plan is a HTC Legend - and that's only like... a week old.

Plenty of rumours suggest the Desire and the Galaxy S will be here within a month though.

Nexus one? Milestone? Xperia?

DroidX having MotoBlur a good thing or bad thing... Not sure what MotoBlur actually does?

Thanks!

Normally I'd say it is a bad thing, but at least it looks more streamlined here...

...either way, doesn't matter, if/when I get a Droid X it will be getting Launcher Pro slapped on it's face the moment it's activated. :lol

Haven't followed much about the Android software/hardware. Is it easy to push Outlook email to the device? I'll be switching over from a Blackberry Storm if that helps.

HTC Sense phones have it right out of the box, at least my Droid Eris does. I think non-Sense phones require a third-party app like Touchdown, but that's $20 on the Market.
