That's pretty awesome! I know I'm in the minority but I'm undecided - I don't know if I'd rather have something like Android powering my inevitable tablet purchase or a Windows 7 skin. A laptop/netbook in iPad's clothing is super tempting to me but I know not everyone sees it as I do (I would love to run true computer programs, from Chrome to Nook Study).

We'll see what happens.

The Sprint Epic 4G is the only one with a front cam out of the Galaxys in the US I believe. With it you can use apps like Qik or Fring (haven't heard of the Skype app having camchat but that's a possibility too) to videochat and it's not restricted to Wifi!
The galaxy s vibrant on bell in canada has front facing cam. Same as euro galaxy s.

Yep, they've put together a smartphone with some of the best components available, and then they've gone and shot themselves in the foot by seemingly duct-taping together some code from their other feature phones..... Derp.

Damn your avatar too, I can't resist the urge of scanning QR codes!! :lol
for the uninitiated, can this be fixed with root? its the best phone at the moment in canada and I'd hate to have to wait with my busted ass 3g much longer.

edit: sorta answered my own question, http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2010/08/galaxy-s-lag-fix-makes-phones-fly/

Looks like it's finally official.

Motorola Droid 2 (and R2-D2 edition!) finally official: Android 2.2, Swype, $200 on contract

Shit maybe I should have waited until next week to pick up my galaxy :lol

Got a peek at next weeks flyer, it is STILL 99.99 under a 3 year plan, with a 75 dollar gift card, with an addition 2500 in reward points (about 30 bucks). You heard it here first, I don't know why Best buy is insisting on beating Bell's in store price, but there it is.

if 1) I didn't get my Droid a couple of months ago
and
2) the Bootloader wasn't locked

I would totally want this phone.

Too bad 1 and 2 are both false >.>

IMO, the back button should always be placed on the bottom left....

Then again, I guess that's a western centric thought. I guess Easterners would like it on the right. So I guess putting it in the middle is a compromise.

Back on the left makes sense when I think of it logically but home and back are the most used buttons in my experience so moving them closer makes sense I guess. I'm sure I'd be able to adjust quick but I'm not getting a Droid 2 soooooo doesn't matter to me in the end.

The Streak is so nice!

Notion Ink Adam: Behind the Scenes

Looks like all the software has been finalized (31 apps and the "underlying OS," confirmed earlier to be based on Froyo), and SlashGear will soon show off the "new UI" and the first news on release dates. Excite!

So damn excited. I've been waiting on all of the Android tablets, and this one looks so very fun. I can't wait.

I'll be getting a smartphone at some point in the future. I'm torn between the Droid X and the Droid 2, but I'm leaning towards the Droid 2. It's got a better battery life, and I think that the physical keyboard is a nice addition. Which phone will perform better though? I believe they have the same processor.

Then they should perform the same right? same processor, same amount of memory, same Motorola UI.

I take it the rumors of Epic releasing tomorrow were cmplete BS. Looks like I'm stuck with my Evo since my30 days expires tomorrow. Luckily it's a damn good phone to be stuck with for at least a year.

Who knows what Aug 2011 will bring... Hopefully we'll have an all out smartphone wat on our hands with iphones an all carriers, gingerbread released, and Win phone 7 kickin ass. Great for consumers.

What is the price?

Unknown but the official statement:

"We will have the device before the year ends. It will be introduced at a major event after which you can order it online. It has to be placed strategically, as this is our maiden effort. Whatever has happened cannot be changed, but with the support we are getting from all, we might just become a part of the history. Also on the pricing, all the 3 devices will be lower than even the basic model of iPad."

Ive been following the adam as well. Its my first choice in tablets.
That price quote takes into account the three models which I assume are pixel qi, lcd and cheaper cpu unit spoken about on blog as a possibility. What isnt mentioned is memory. Their site currently has 4gb as the lowest option. Could still find pixel qi + 32 gb is greater than $500

My girlfriend just got an LG Ally from Verizon. It looks like it's the least expensive Android device you can get from Verizon.

I noticed it's a bit slow on the menus and stuff. If she were to root her phone, would things run smoother? Are there any advantages for a somewhat non-tech inclined person to do this, or should she just stick with the stock set up?

Rooting alone will not make the device speedier, just give you a lot more control over the phone and os.

If you are a non-tech minded person, and just use your phone for calls, texts and facebook, i don't really see the need. If in the future the Ally gets a bit of modding support behind it then it might be worth looking into, some of the modding communities that build up around some handsets lead to really good things (in the form of custom roms).

Take a lookie here http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-ally/ It should answer some of the questions you have and give you some idea of what to expect should you decide to go down the rooting path.

OH MY GOD.

Exclusive: Sony Ericsson to introduce Android 3.0 gaming platform and PSP Go-like handset

There's no question that gaming on the Android platform has heretofore been relatively underwhelming -- but that looks like it's all about to change. It seems that Sony Ericsson -- a company that has yet to even introduce an Android 2.0 device -- is at work on a project to redefine gaming on Google's mobile platform. We now know (via a trusted source) that the company is actively and heavily developing a brand new gaming platform, ecosystem, and device (possibly alongside Google) which are already in the late stages of planning. And we've got the goods on it.

More @ Engadget

THIS IS WILL BE MY PHONE OF THE FOREVER.

SONY FINALLY WOKE UP AND HEARD OUR PRAYERS.

Yeah right. I doubt anything will actually come of this, and if something does it will no doubt be disappointing.

I highly doubt it will have a Snapdragon processor unless it's a dual core one with a better GPU, and I can't see this being the PSP2 even if they got rid of the "phone" part of it.

So what are the best android phones out right now? I assume the htc evo, droid x/2, and nexus one are the top contenders, but I'm not entirely sure.

Long story short, my iPhone contract is up and I'm done with AT&T. What are my options phone wise that will be comparable to the iPhone?

ITT: GAF, what android phone should I get?

Cheese on rice, imagine the support if sony's first party developers are on board with this. Big plus if sony and google can pull this off. Hopefully everything will be accessible with other android devices.

If you get amazing service with sprint around your area, I'd go with the samsung epic. It's a galaxy S with a qwerty keyboard.

But honestly, don't buy a phone till the holidays, something is bound to come up.

I think all the top phones have something going for them.

Sammy Galaxy S is top dog specs-wise, I believe.

Nexus One should still be considered just because of Google and hacker support even though its hardware has lagged behind.

Evo 4G has its wonderful screen if you can deal with the battery issues. Not sure if they Droid X has the same battery issue.

Droid 2 has a hardware keyboard if thats your thing. Also, the first Droid is an overclocking monster. Perhaps the next iteration will share the same trait.

If you're okay with T-Mobile, I'd wait for Project Emerald.

That's what I've been recommending to all my T-Mo peeps. If for some reason it's not that impressive, could always go with the Vibrant.

The R2-D2 Droid 2 has been leaked/revealed
here.

It looks a little tacky I think. Had they gone with a little more muted color and styling I would like it a lot better I think.
