Hey guys, just got my Droid X in the mail. When I sign in, is there an option NOT to download all my old apps and settings? I want to start kind of fresh on this one, as I had quite a few apps on my old Droid.
Hmm I think in settings, under privacy uncheck both back up my data and automatic restore and you should be good to go.

The pricing is for USB modems only. Please stop thinking it is for actual phones. We won't know that pricing until CES at the earliest.

The LTE price is actually cheaper than their current 3G USB modem plans.
Yeah but what is too much?

$50 bucks for 5GB on a mifi/usb LTE device isn't going to be too far off from a LTE phone with probably a 5-10GB cap + overage per GB.

Right now on Verizon's 3G they're charging $29.99 for unlimited (not sure if its soft capped like Tmo-AT&T) but I would imagine LTE charges are going to go up at least $10 bucks to $40/month (probably not unlimited) but maybe a higher cap.

We have now hit the point where unfortunately carriers have spent the capital they've made from 3G and we're now moving to what's next and that is going to cost money. LTE is going to be around (especially for Verizon) for a good 10 years if not longer. People expecting LTE phones to retain the current prices for data need a quick reality check.

Quite frankly, the strengths of LTE aren't just in the speed but in the area of spectrum penetration, larger capacity and more dedicated bandwidth per user. From a data perspective it is sort of the jump from DSL to FiOS in terms of actual sustainable bandwidth to the device.

Agreed. I actually think the 5GB cap is pretty pathetic and $10 for 1GB overage is not good either, especially when you consider the speeds at which you have access to (12Mbps down, 5Mbps up), but I do think $50 is a fair price for these USB modems. I would guess most people who use them do it for business purposes and paying $50 a month to have those speeds in major markets anywhere is fair enough.

When the LTE phone plan prices come out I expect it to be $40/mo (with cap, probably 3GB) with a $30/mo option that will have a pretty small cap (~1GB or so). 3G Unlimited, which is actually unlimited on Verizon provided you are using data only within the confines of the phone, will probably stay the same price.

With these new LTE plans will we be able to use our phones data plans to replace cable and DSL in our homes? Will it be fast enough and will the cap be high enough? This is the day I'm looking forward too, and I'm willing to tether.

I haven't frequented this thread, but was wondering if there has been any discussions about Android Tablets here. I'm seeing these (presumably) shitty tablets popping up all over the place for really low prices and wanted to see if there was any place that has kind of weeded through the shitty stuff.

The Android Market and even the current version of the OS are not meant for tablets.
Honeycomb is going to change that.

All these manufacturers are just trying to get ahead and put something out. I myself will not even look at Tablets until the OS is officially supporting these types of devices.

The Vega seems to be OK and its pretty cheap. Modaco have already put out a custom Rom with the full Google experience and most people seem to be happy.

Will wait for the Nexus Tablet.
You know it's coming

Anyone else bored of phones? I like Android but the version bumps and spec bumps that live on slate phone after slate phone has gotten a bit stale. Not just Android, phones in general. I'm perfectly content keeping my Droid until something really interesting comes along - and that's not another Droid X/2 but this time with a Tegra2 for a heart.

I want something really awesome and different like the Fujitsu dual screen flip (I've always said I wished Moto would make a double screen Android RAZR)

The Continium was a nice try and HTC gave it a whirl with their speaker slider but phones are so similar and predictable. Palm supposedly has a lot of new form factors in the pipeline - "unique" ones - so I will be watching.

You'd think with an OS that's already made, manufacturers would differentiate by making unique phones and not fucking up the UI and throwing out the same slate or slider over and over again. Someone be original, please. Let's not wait for Apple to introduce a new type of form factor for the iPhone and then decide its time to wake up like always (most recently front cams).

The Nexus S is not it!

Depends.

How much bandwidth do you use? How much speed are you looking for? What do you find as "acceptable" in terms of speed?

I seriously doubt that Verizon will offer an unlimited LTE plan (but I'd like to be wrong) in which a person could ditch their home broadband and just live off their phone's broadband but that is a plateau that Verizon expects to hit sometime in LTE's lifespan, but not out of the gate.

As a FiOS user who users 7-10TB of data a month, I can't imagine a cell network trying to do that anytime soon nor do I want it to. Then again, everyone has different needs.

Not bored of the phones (this things are insane). But yea excited for new innovations.

That thing needs to have a beast of a battery.

Judging by it's bulge it does have a big hefty battery.
Nice to see a phone that doesn't try to be the slimmest ever. Day 1.

Hey guys,
I have one old samsung mobile phone and I need to replace it
I was thinking of getting one ZTE Blade (San Francisco)... what do you think about it?
It has a big and great screen, capacitive/multitouch, 2.2 rom already running without major problems... should I buy one?

I am amazed with all the leaks around the alleged Playstation phone, not one of these videos actually shows the device, you know, PLAYING A GAME. It doesn't even look like they have anything installed, gamewise. Who the hell do they having testing these things?!?

So i'm still rocking my Samsung Wave, which is neat but the Bada OS is just to limited atm. So i'm eyeing with a Desire HD , Desire Z (aka G2 in the states) or Motorola Milestone 2.

Desire HD is my favourite atm but the battery life is just shitty. I have no problems to buy another battery but there are rumours that HTC is bringing a stronger one. Desire Z is nice for the Hardware keyboard (liked this for my Nokia N97 Mini) and the Milestone is just fugly in my eyes but has good spec and is around 70€ cheaper than the DesireHD. I know and like HTC Sense but never tried the Motorola Android OS.

Am i missing any other good Android phones? I already have a contract with flatrate so i'm buying the phone from the cheapest place and selling my Wave and N97Mini. Maximum price for me is 500€ (Desire HD is around 480€, Desire Z at 460 € and Milestone at 430€)

Whenever they open the app drawer, it looks like there's a "Playstation" icon.

AFAIK, all Sony Ericsson Android phones have 3 buttons. This one has 4... maybe it's a dedicated PSP button?

Yeah there are a upon of subtle differences with it, kinda neat.

did you also notice the screen is definitely higher res
Yeah I did. Makes me wonder if this is the biggest reason Honeycomb is going make Android 1.x and 2.x look like legos and playdoh. :D

You mean the hardware buttons at the bottom (Front)?
If you look at the video those four buttons are set up just like the Nexus One.. From Left to Right: Back, Menu, Home, Search.

Exact layout.
Maybe this will be Ericsson's first and only Stock Android?

That Playstation phone is pretty ugly. Interested to see what the software support entails though.
Ugly for non-final hardware maybe. I think they (Sony) are realizing that if they want to move to the next level of competing with the iPhone gaming market, this is the way forward.

So if it has a thicker battery because I can download PSP2 game or whatever via the Android Market; I view that as a very serious threat to the iPhone game market.

Gingerbread's feature list solid, but I'm expecting Honeycomb to make a huge splash, along with whatever flagship phone it's released with.

Doesn't look like it, actually.

It's not a HUGE thing, but it's at least slightly irritating. I like having backups of everything on my SD card.

That's a no buy for me. I like to have the option of expanding the memory.
