No I know... but reading up on the lack of features on it is going to leave a lot of people pissed and wondering why they left out key components. I guess I'm saying... don't buy into the hype just because it has 2.3 and a nifty new hardware chassis.gcubed said:the single issue i have with my n1 is the touch screen... its the main reason why i want to get rid of it, but i keep waiting. There is also a million reasons why the Nexus S isn't going to mirror those issues... this will be just another phone launch

Everything I'm reading is that the Tegra 2 phones are the next gen of Android. If people were worried about 1.5 or 1.6 being left in the dust, 2.x is going to look like a joke compared to some of the features I've seen being worked on for 3.x.gcubed said:yes, the lack of extra oomph is sad when we are going to get some hardcore phones in a few weeks. The NFC is nice, the extra sensors, the nice screen... and of course the nexus branding... but its just missing everything else. I wish it would have had an HSDPA+ radio in it even without the dual core.
Still 99% of games are going to be built with this as a reference for the next year, so i'm not sure how crazy tegra 2 phones are going to end up being
Possibly, but I would speculate that Tegra 2 will be pushing Android 3.x further forward (think tablets) with more advanced GPU functions as well as for gaming.Luckyman said:I believe this will be the standard hardware for what games are targetting. The GPU is the same as iPhone/iPad and rest of Galaxy S line. Tegra 2 might bring higher framerates but that´s it.

Disappointing as fuck. Vanilla Galaxy S. It doesn't do what the Nexus One did to the Android scene. I won't be upgrading my Nexus One.
On the site it seems like it will be for T-mobile and AT&T as they specifically mention GSM but that is not confirmed.JordanLMiller said:So are there plans to bring the nexus s to other carriers besides tmobile eventually?
Not to worry with the slew of new phones coming out here in less than a month.JonnyBrad said:wtf at no sd card. I have over 16gb of music and was going to change from a 3gs to android. No buy for me now.

Gingerbread keyboard code includes Playstation buttons
In a bit of awesome news, the android.view.KeyEvent class (that's geek speak for keyboard controls in the code) in Android 2.3 has been updated to include support for what looks like Playstation phone controls. Included are new fields for buttons named A,B,C, L1, L2, R1, R2, select, start, X, Y, and Z. All I can say, is Konami Code lockscreen password FTW. [Android Developers] Thanks, Nick!
kamil said:I can see how some people are dissapointed with Nexus S and I think that androidandme is to be blamed for spreading rumours about dual-core Nexus S which have not been fullfilled. But new Nesus has nothing to be shy about:
- Hummingbird chip - the best SoC currently avalible in any smartphone on the market (alongside S. Galaxy)
- 4'' SAMOLED screen - the best screen on Android smartphones, possibly best overall (alongside S. Galaxy)
- stock Android 2.3 - best software option you can get with Android (alongside Nexus One)
There are better smartphones when it comes to RAM, camera and storage but I still don't think that any Android phone can match Galaxy S combined hardware and software strengths (other Nexus S strong points are front-facing camera, big battery and slim form factor).
I don't really think we are going to see dual-core phones anytime soon. The talk that 'they are just around the corner' lasts for at least half a year if not more. I think that especially unbelivable are LG/Tegra rumours/concpet phones. LG never made super phone and I don't even know of any mid-end smartphone in their portfolio. Similary Nvidia chips never caught traction in smartphone market and I wouldn't expect them to become a leaders out of nowhere.
I think that Qualcomm will be the first to offer dual-cores but I expect them to release higher clocked Snapdragons before - they hit 1Ghz mark on 65 nm process and I think it should be expected from them to speed up things a bit as they finally switched to 45 nm (unless upgrade to Adreno 205 took all die real estate but I think its unlikely scenario).

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw another 'Google Experience' phone from Moto next year.JonnyBrad said:Thats true but i was hoping for a nice vanilla OS and not having to wait months for updates. C'est la vie.

I have no issues ...just as long as you don't get burnt with the hardware like last time. :lolPctx said:Was wondering what people thought of me running the 2011 thread for Android?
Andrex is banned and I was going to use some of his images for the new thread to keep continuity but aside from that come up with some other graphics.
Anyone else claimed it or want to help out?

Also...should be a smartphone thread and a separate tablet one.
The Interrobanger said:No one doubts it'll be the best phone available when it releases, it's just disappointing that a "flagship" phone has no truly revolutionary features. It'll be outdated hardware wise much sooner than the Nexus One was.

Samsung didn't want to be #2. Thank God. That lets HTC use the N2 name after Google ditches Samsung.
The S stands for "second".

I do not have problems with the gingerbread because it was mentioned by the time google hired palm guy, it was already too late to implement his ideas in this iteration of the os. thats why i believe we will see a completely refreshed gui in honeycomb. , but the phone hardware itself is another story and utterly disappointing. This would have been the perfect phone for google to, again, break the benchmark with phones with dual core and tegra. But somehow i think google got greedy with the potential sales this holiday.alternade said:Wow what a let down. Just reading through the users guide(http://static.googleusercontent.com/external_content/untrusted_dlcp/www.google.com/en/us/googlephone/AndroidUsersGuide-2.3.pdf) it looks like nothing was changed at all. Same crappy music player, same useless gallery app. What did they hire that guy from Palm for? Green here and orange there?:lol
I was dead set to buy this phone because I thought it would push the envelope like the N1 did, but it clear that Samsung is holding there big guns for the Galaxy 2. Hopefully HTC will come through and build something to eclipse this.
