LOL, 360 would be in last place if its gaming library was as pathetic as Android, and iDevices have GPU's that are WAY faster than Android devices, which is not true with PS3/360.
I'd argue the same thing if its gaming library was the same as iOS.

And you'd be wrong. You might not be a smartphone gamer but many people are, and iOS is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to that. If mobile gaming is important to you (and don't want to carry two things with you), you but an iOS device.I'd argue the same thing if its gaming library was the same as iOS.

If you've been using IM for 15 years then you probably know how to appear offline or busy.
WHAT was going on with that last page? FaceTime is superior to Skype/Gtalk because mothers can't be offended by an unresponsive online indicator? Aside from the fact that until recently it didn't even work if not on Wifi, and still only works on Apple devices. THE MIND BOGGLES.
Who randomly video calls someone unannounced anyway?
First is not a valid criticism, many Apps like Android were not available for Android until recently and JB, which is said to be the only smooth Android OS, is only available for very few devices. Only working on Apple devices ensures that you have a decent experience when using it. Facetime still has better video/audio quality than anything else.Aside from the fact that until recently it didn't even work if not on Wifi, and still only works on Apple devices. THE MIND BOGGLES.

Clarify the bolded, if you would.
What on earth does Jelly Bean's uptake have to do with Facetime and video calling? 1. Apps such as Instagram are new to Android, just like facetime over cellular is new to iOS.
2. JB is not officially available for most Android devices and not being used, chart is october 2012:

I think what he is asking is, what do you mean by 'many apps like Android are not available for Android'
I think he meant Instagram. Still not sure what that has to do with FacetimeI think what he is asking is, what do you mean by 'many apps like Android are not available for Android'
I see lol, replace the first Android with Instagram.I think what he is asking is, what do you mean by 'many apps like Android are not available for Android'

I'm saying Facetime is a totally proprietary and closed technology. I'm not saying that's bad in and of itself, but that it's completely useless if you don't use an Apple device. So it's not 'better' if the person you need to talk to doesn't have an iPhone/iPad/Mac. At least Skype/Gtalk etc are cross platform.
I've been Android-curious for a while and yesterday I got to play with a SG3 for about an hour and I liked it.
I'm currently on an iPhone 4. I like iOS and I'm waiting for the 5 to be released in my country to upgrade. I'm not super excited about it: it's more a matter of needing a new smartphone since my 4 is pretty battered up. And I have no idea when the 5 will be available here.
However, since my contract is over, I could walk into a store today, renew it for 2 years an get a SGIII. Today. It's really tempting. It's basically the app ecosystem that's holding me back: I've been using iOS for over 4 years and I've spent like $400 on apps.
The SG3 runs ICS with that Touchwiz thing on top, right? How easy is it to run stock JB on it?
3. ICS is not smooth as iOS and WP, that's a fact that doesn't need explaining, you can't even scroll down web pages smoothly.
Are you remotely computer literate? Know how to operate a couple of command lines? If yes to all, then it's relatively easy.
Cool.
Now, there are serveral custom ROMs for Android out there like CyanogenMOD and Paranoid Android. Anyone have experience with them? Are they preferable to stock JB?
I don't own an iPad. My iPhone is my only Apple device.

Guys, guys, this debate is over.
The Lumia 920 will have a cyan version, /thread WP8 wins.
This is simply not true. Web browsing is pretty much lag free on ICS, and that's even with flash ads and videos loaded in too.
Not an iPhone 5, but speed of scrolling in iOS has always been pretty smooth. Browsing scroll comparisons around the 4min mark.

If the sluggish UI held you back from Android in the past, ICS almost completely addresses the issue. I say almost completely because there are still some minor hiccups and a couple of more reasonably sized problems with the OS' responsiveness.
The biggest issue for me is the delay when operating any of the ICS buttons: back, home or the task switcher. While tapping a folder on any of the home screens results in an instantaneous display of its contents, hitting any of the three ICS buttons just isn't as responsive. There's a noticeable delay between when you hit the home button and when you actually appear back at the home screen. It's a delay that's, at least in my opinion, a bit too long. More frustrating is the delay in bringing up the list of recently used apps. It's less than two seconds but it should be in the milliseconds.

The funny accent guy in your own link says there's some lag in the Android. I also know from my experience that ICS performance is crap. Here's a more reputable link about ICS smoothness:

LOL No. The overwhelming majority opinion on Touchwiz is that it's shit.Perhaps Samsung's Touchwiz ICS UI corrects that then.

I'd hardly call it 'crap' - it's completely acceptable on my Xperia S.The funny accent guy in your own link says there's some lag in the Android. I also know from my experience that ICS performance is crap. Here's a more reputable link about ICS smoothness:

I hate how this mobile phone wars shit has made people tune in to an OCD-level of pickiness with perceived smoothness and FPS of scrolling on their phone. It's outrageous. Why isn't the same standard adhered to for desktop OS? Why is it suddenly a bullet point? That said, CM10 JB on my rooted One XL is faster and more responsive than any iOS device I own, so they must have fixed something up after ICS.
Yes.I have to admit, yes there is some lag, even on my ICS GSIII (open a browser, and just quickly swipe up and down, and you can see the delay quite clearly) but is that crappy performance?
Good for you, for me that's unforgivable after years of iPhone usage. So yes, the phone is a bit laggy, and no, not as smooth as any (newer) Iphone, but then again (for me) it's much more useful.
Our iPhones are a bit laggy as well when browsing certain sites. Even my GF's iPhone 5. Nothing deal-breaking at all, but I've also yet to use any device where I can scroll for a long time without any lag at all. Just set your pages to 100 posts on GAF and browse Threads with gifs and pictures. It's never really satisfying. Menus are laggy on my old 3GS even.Good for you, for me that's unforgivable after years of iPhone usage.

I don't know about the new iPad though, I've not used that, and that's an iOS device as well so I'd like to exclude that when making this statement.
Yes.

GAF threads with tons of animated gifs lag even on a powerful Sandy Bridge laptop, so I would definitely cut some slack for mobile devices there. But going from an iphone 4S to SGS3 is a distinct step back in smoothness, and that's a dealbreaker.
And I get labeled as the anecdotal evidence guy, when there's crap like this around.News flash buddy, I have a 4S and an S3 and find the S3 to be the better and smoother performer. I've had every iPhone since the 3GS. It's a myth that any of the OS's is completely lag free. They both lag and hitch here and there, and I actually find my 4S is far more unreliable when it comes to stalls and crashes than my S3 is.
And I get labeled as the anecdotal evidence guy, when there's crap like this around.
Only android device I own is an HP Touchpad running a nightly CM9 build from August, so ICS but not JB. It's got pretty beefy hardware, but the OS is just crap in my opinion. I hate everything about it from the very subjective matter of design, to the soft keys at the bottom of the screen, to its sluggishness, super ugly fonts, the fact that it signs me in to google talk even when I close it, etc.
Android to me reminds me of dealing with Windows PC's in the 98/XP era. I do not want to customize anything besides the basic stuff. I am not OK with a single OS being made to run on millions of different devices. The best OS is just a firmware tailored to one or very limited number of hardware. That's the way I want it. Android's for nerds who have too much time to mess with their phones.
And I get labeled as the anecdotal evidence guy, when there's crap like this around.
Someone who owns both phones and does regular comparisons vs someone who owns one and has likely never even used the other. Which do you think is more reliable?
A video that visibly shows the differences in web browsing smoothness between the two vs a random quote from a guy about an unrelated element of the UI of some old version of ICS. Which do you think is more reliable?
