Android, iOS, WP8 phone debate thread

My first ipad 1 lags all of the time. It is actually a piece of shit, but it is only used by the three year old.

My "the new ipad" lags at almost every context switch from app to app. Want to see it lag on a constant basis? Don't use the double click button, but swipe/gesture task switch instead. The double click time -> select app -> gives the system enough time to mask the lag.

IOS is smooth and nice for sure, but it lags as well. Also, when your interface is a chicklet 90's web button interface, and your os fake multi tasks, it better have minimal lag.

Also, I forgot to mention #cameragate before.

And I get labeled as the anecdotal evidence guy, when there's crap like this around.

I have a 4S, S3, ipad 2 at home plus multitudes of friends with 4S's plus a couple of 5's. Having had extensive experience with them, your assertion is mindbogglingly stupid without a shred of proof; the G3 keeps up fantastically with the 5, nevermind the 4S. You have never used a S3 in your life.

Kindly stop talking about things you don't know anything about.

This is what I mean. IPad 1 was always laggy, crashy and slow as shit but now "lag" is constantly used as a completely unacceptable downside of Android, as if iOS has been flawless forever in that regard. My iphone 3G became so bad after one of the iOS updates that it would sometimes take about 20 seconds to open the messages app. It was bordering on unusable by the time I was upgrading!

You'd probably get the same answers regarding iOS devices from most Android pundits in here, given the staggering amount of knowledge about the platform coming from them.

Yeah I would never take seriously anyone who's only impression of iOS was a version hacked to run on a device it was never intended to run.

Really cause I see far more Android users that own multiple devices (iPad, iPod touch, Macs) than Apple defenders here who are almost always exclusively Apple.

Hell, lots of people WENT to Android from iOS and somehow he brushes it off as anecdotal whereas his usage of a hacked together Android ROM on an HP WEBOS TABLET is somehow a definitive Android experience.

Well, my Haxus 7 says screw you, buddy ;)

I don't actually have a Nexus 7 running iOS.

I didn't think anyone should have let it come that far to discredit coldfoot, and hell, I am on the same side on the fence as him and even I think he's a nutjob.

A N7 that dual boots JB and iOS would actually be perfect.

Hey guy, he owns an HP TouchPad, ok? You know, that Android tablet that HP made... LOL

c'mon dude, it's running a CM nightly from August! it can't be that bad! well, except for the whole camera-not-working-so-no-video-chat thing... but don't let that get in the way of a good reply!!!

wait, when was sound fixed?

The sound works fine, only the camera is not working.
There are also plenty of video comparisons and reputable reviews that say the S3 isn't as smooth as the iPhone.

Whatever, can't wait for the iPad mini so I can return to an Androidless life.

why wait, just return to Web OS right now. they have Skype, a cross platform video chat app that works. it's pretty good.

My first ipad 1 lags all of the time. It is actually a piece of shit, but it is only used by the three year old.

This is exactly my situation. I snagged an iPad 1 on clearance from Verizon back when iPad 2 launched (32GB for $249, who could resist that?) for my son who was 3 at the time and already a veteran iPod Touch user. The amount of educational apps is fantastic and he treats the device very nicely. Flash forward to now, my son is 5 and he's pretty much been the sole owner of the thing besides my wife watching Dancing With the Stars on the ABC app from time to time.

That thing lags, and crashes up a storm to the point that I am assuming there is some kind of hardware failure involved. My kid gets so upset when he will be in the middle of an app and it will crash back to the home screen (Especially a drawing app), and even from the App Store. The lag when typing in a search box is insane too.

The Apple creedo of saying "It just works" is such a bunch of BS from my standpoint. Even a clean wipe restore has never helped. I swear that every incremental iOS update has made it progressively worse.

And while I have been a majority Android user for three years now, I realize how well endowed the App Store is for the types of things my son can take advantage of from using it. I really love the vast amount of educational apps on the platform. The three iPod Touch's we have owned never had this type of problem in comparison either. At this point I am ready to bail and get him a Nexus 7 because he's been getting into reading books off my wife's Nook Color and the size is wonderful. Plus he'd have access to my Play and Amazon apps from the start.

iPad 1 is garbage, you should never buy first generation Apple products.

Right around the 3 minute mark you see scrolling and zooming in and out, it's more glitchy for the S3 where the iPhone is super smooth.

That's the best comparison you could come up with? A split second momentary issue? LOL. Here's a better and more thorough comparison.

Not sure if the iPhone 5 Page loads entire websites when it loads a site or just the upper segments. I know on the S3 it loads the whole thing. That might make a difference, though at this point it doesn't really matter since performance is fast and smooth on both.

redrawing multiple Flash elements vs redrawing none.

Not my problem. It's very apparent in that video. But maybe these videos will drive the point home:

1) moving finger WAY MORE/MUCH FASTER on the iOS device. plus, isn't that not the default browser for the gs3?
2) facebook, google+ and app installs happening in the background

BS. They're both showing the same thing. The videos will work on the iphone when you click on them, so you're peddling BS here.
You also see that he's scrolling at 2:55 but the page doesn't move down on the copycat phone. It's getting stuck there while the page is being fetched from memory.

BS, it's about the same. iPhone just responds faster, that's why you see that. The lag is pretty much apparent in every video of GS3.

2) facebook, google+ and app installs happening in the background
Proof of them actually taking place?
