The lockscreen on the EVO is a Sense lockscreen. It has some positives and negatives when compared to the stock Android lockscreen.
Will installing Lockbot disable the Sense lock screen?

I tried it out. The widget is cool but takes up the whole screen. The app itself is nice, but takes forever to load Facebook pictures next to names in the feed and everywhere. I'm gonna let it run and see what happens.

just bought Snesoid on DIC. Any recommendations on what to play first? I'm thinking an RPG because anything else may be too tough with the touch screen.

Does that come with the games or how do you get them? And how much was that? Yeah, I'd think an RPG would be the way to go with a touch screen.

You can use the LG Ally FB/Twitter app+widget on any 2.1 device, apparently.

I'm gonna give it a shot now. Maybe it's not garbage. Probably is though.

http://www.droid-life.com/2010/05/29/download-lg-ally-socialite-app/

I installed this over the weekend but I think it's draining the battery a bit too much. Took my phone off the charger this morning and before 2pm it was already below 20% battery.

Also noticed the sync icon was constantly 'on'. Only thing I did was install Socialite and setup exchange calander sync (in froyo).

Anyone else have this problem with Socialite?

What phone are you using?

Gameloft announced they have changed their no-redownloading DRM policy. They're still abstaining from the Market and releasing shitty versions of their games, though.

I'm probably old, but I just noticed that if you are typing on the keyboard, if you hold and drag your finger over the top of the keyboard, it brings up another shortcut keyboard with numbers and common symbols

Neat!

I just found an app to take screenshots in the browser for non rooted.

I know a lot of people aren't rooted for one reason or another. There's a cool app called Site Shot, which adds to your list of Share options. So in the browser, settings>share>site shot, then you can position where you want, hit menu-capture and its saved to your sd card.

It's not the simplest method in the world but atleast a clever dev was able to find a way to make it possible.

Is there any worth being rooted and on 2.2? I might do it this week

I still check my ota update option daily. I can't believe we've had to wait this long. I blame the interwebs for making me believe we'd get the update at the conference, rather than weeks later at an unspecified date.

For anyone that was interested in Caligo Chaser before but the size was a turnoff, they finally updated with a SD install option. At most, it's 8 megs internally. Everything else is installed to SD. :D Does require Wifi for the install however.

So I've bought this phone unlocked outright and I'm using a carrier other than the one it is branded for - and that make me want to root it to flash a stock desire rom on there

is there any big red reset button if things go wrong? (like "restore to factory conditions" for iphones

I would also like to recommend Appbrain. It's a better version of the android market. The hot apps section is where I found lots of new cool apps.

thanks.. done

My favorites and some useful ones are

Where's my droid - text phone to find it by making it ring
Mobile defense beta - see and control your phone from online for free
Mybookmarks - get your browser bookmarks onto your phone
isyncr - best for syncing itunes
3banana - best note app with syncing to and from online
Automount - because telling the phone to mount whenever you plug is annoying
Dropbox or Droidbox
Fandango
Gesture Search
Listen
My Backup Pro
Newsy
Oi File Manager
Qik
Photoshop mobile
Shazam
Shopsavy
Status notes - put reminders/mini notes in notification pane
Status toggle - quick wifi on/off within any app from notif pane
Slacker radio
Twitter or Twidroid
Urbanspoon
Wifi File Explorer or Websharing

Keep meaning to post about my friends app on here, it's called ShareMyApps:

  • Basically allows you to share the names and market links for some or all of your installed apps, you can then email or copy the list.
  • You can also do QR codes, etc.
  • The list it generates has links to the marketplace (you can change it to do links to websites like androlib, appbrain, cyrket) that you can simply click on from your phone and it will take you to the marketplace to dl them.

Here's mine for example (let me know if this is too long and i'll pair it down some more):

Does anyone know of a way to mark new gmail as read directly from the notification panel, without having to actually open the full app?

I'd like the ability to perhaps long press on a new mail notification and be prompted to mark as read or delete.

I'm going to get a evo. I'm on a iPhone now and I'm tired of only being allowed to play mp4 files. What apps on android are good for playing divx/xvid?

Hi, my HTC Desire just arrived and I was wondering, what is my best option in regard to a skype app? I have a few friends who I only contact over skype so it would be really helpful. :)

verizon has a skype app, but i'm not sure you can use it anywhere else yet. They are supposed to be releasing a general android one this summer

Don't have my EVO yet, but supposedly Fring does Skype as well as everything else. Let me know as well because I plan on getting that.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I'm expecting a Palm Pixi in the mail soon but am already considering exchanging it for a droid because of how sad the app scene is. Without going through 8000 pages, what do people think of the Droid Eris so far? It sounds like it's a really good phone except that it develops lag issues after weeks/months of use.

It's a decent phone. To people who love AAA handsets and want the newest one everytime, it's nothing amazing, but it's a nice size, performs well and is cheap. If you're ok with what you see going in (size screen, performance, etc) then you should be fine. It has 2.1 now, so you're all good.

I'd add that I would probably exchange if I were you, but it's your call. My main issue with the Pixi is how slow it is. The screen is a nice size for that form factor, and the keyboard is good-ish. But it can chug at times. webOS has some cool apps, and phones aren't all about apps. If you enjoy the core experience and the OS then stick with it, who cares if you only have 12 note apps to choose from and not 20. Android definitely does have more apps but it's not limitless supply of AAA offerings.

This is pretty much how I feel. I have an Eris and it can do just about everything an Incredible can do, albeit a little less snappy and a little smaller. It does lag sometimes, especially with the dialer, but it's nothing major.

Anyone check out the latest LauncherPro update? You can use custom icons for the dock shortcuts now.

Which brings me to my question...has anyone made an iPhone-style icon for NeoGAF that I could use with BetterCut?

I was regularly frustrated with my Eris until I rooted it and overclocked it. Now, using LauncherPro, it's the phone I wanted it to be to begin with. Not everything is totally smooth (pinch to zoom for instance), but it doesn't lag and get unresponsive like it used to. It has literally doubled my enjoyment of my phone <3

Just create a bookmark shortcut on your home screen. It will use the Neogaf icon in full.
