Does anyone know how to solve the "Failed download" error in the market? I've already tried to clear the Market cache, kill the app and restart the phone with no results...

i find uninstalling the app and installing fresh helps. Worked yesterday with chrome to phone

is it any better then just using google docs?
I can think of two reasons it is better:

-you get to work with versions compatible with the superior MS Word.

-you can actually edit documents instead of just stare at them

Clock: "Moto Droid Clock Widget" by Factory Widgets (Market)

Wallpaper: Flavoured by ~Digitalshiva

Status bar: Suavesque V1.1 by sleepy3194

Vibrate/Wifi Widgets: SwitchPro

I've just discovered Google Listen and podcasts

Holy fuck!

By the way, which are the best applications with root user support? Dunno, for random stuff that cannot be done in stock

Edit:

Not really "elegant" but works for me. Side home screens have the friends/messagging widgets from LauncherPro

By the way, automatically uploading images from the phone to imgur.com is a blast!

How do you go about doing that?

Search for "imgur" in the market, there are a couple apps that work more or less the same. Then you just have to go to an image in the gallery, click "Menu -> Share -> Imgur" and it will provide you with the hotlink.

Edit: Imgur Android is better, as it keeps track of all the images you upload, with delete links and stats and all. If you don't need these features, the other one is less bloated as it doesn't keep track.

Ok, Tweetdeck really needs notification settings, I am about to uninstall it because every 30 seconds my LED goes off with new tweets. :lol
They're there. Go to your home, hit your settings button, go to manage columns, then you can turn off notifications of your home or me columns or both.

Edit: I set mine where there is only a notification for posts about me.

Haha, you confused the heck out of me. I got really excited, and reread all of Andrex's posts so far trying to find the connection.

Anyway, definitely going to follow it, Andrex. I do code (also for a living :( ), and have actually done a bit of dabbling myself with making an Android app, so this will be a learning experience by proxy for me.

Ha, cool. I hope you get something out of it. :D

Why :( for a living? You're living the dream man! :3

I don't believe you can even change the aspect ratio. Then again, I haven't really researched it much. There are different settings you can play with, like the inertia and bouncing effect to reduce that parallax effect though, but like I said, I haven't looked into it, but honestly, it bugged me at first, then I stopped noticing, but now I have it static.
Thanks for the replies.

I did some more reading on my own, and it appears that Android only accepts wallpapers that are twice the size of the screen, horizontally. So, if your screen is 480 x 800, the wall paper will always end up being 960 x 800. (The phone will scale images for you, but they always have to have that same aspect ratio.)

Third party apps can be used to "pin" the wallpaper, so it doesn't move when you scroll between screens. That's kinda the opposite of what I'd like to see.

There's another app that lets you designate a separate wallpaper for each screen. In theory, I could make a wide 2400 x 800 wallpaper that would be big enough to "cover" 5 screens, cut it into 5 equal-width chunks, and then use that app to assign the chunks to their respective screens.

Alas, that app seems quite buggy and poorly supported. So, the search continues.

(In truth, I'll probably just get used to the extreme-parallax look that Google decided to force on us. It's not the end of the world.)

Oh damn, I thought that was for turning off the column, not notifications. Thanks!

Now all they need is the ability to import my custom columns from the PC version and I'll be set!

*edit* doh after a few restarts and settings restores.. finally let me move it :p

Not sure what you're talking about. Just hold-click and drag just like anything else.

Can we come up with a better phrase than 'rooting' with regards to getting root access to an Android phone.

If I told anyone in Australia I was rooting my phone, I'd get some weird looks.

Rooting is a euphemism for sex.

Most of the LP widgets require you to long press at the very top of the widget because long presses can perform other actions on items in the widgets.

Also, if you long press on a widget to move it but don't move it, it will let you resize it. When you're finished resizing, press Back.

What ROM are you using? I'm using OpenDesire and I hate the neon blue-ish colour they use for the Power Control widget. I want my green back.
That's actually SwitchPro [$.99 from the market]. You can customize the notification color :D

I don't know if it's the right place to ask, but what's so good about the Cynogen Mod? I have a Nexus One.

I used it on my Desire for about a day and I really liked it from a performance standpoint, everything felt very, very snappy and responsive. The only downside was battery life. On the CyanogenMod 6 nightly build I tried, the display under Battery Use would be up at 75-80% and cause massive battery drain, totally ridiculous. I'm on OpenDesire now and battery life is much more realistic. I really enjoyed Cyanogen and wouldn't mind going back to it as soon as they fix that problem, though.

Ah I see. I'll wait until they release an update that stops the battery draining. I'll hold out for now.

Which RC are you guys on? RC3 just came out and its fucking fabulous.

Desire only has RC2 out so far, though I don't even understand what that means.. is it level with the Nexus RC3 stream, but called 2 because it is simply the second RC for the desire?

I have no clue, one thing I can never seem to find for cyanogen is a proper changelog between the versions (though i'm sure there is one somewhere)

I'm personally using OpenDesire v3.2, but given the good things i've heard about cyanogen, I'll probably give it a go once 6.1 becomes stable (so a while from now)

cyanogen on hero with 2.2 . Man I am in heaven.

Dude, how's battery life? I'm on FroydVillian, it's pretty nifty and all that but my battery is really taking the hit. Still gonna give it a few more days cause you know, it's hard to gauge the battery life if you're messing with it installing shit and looking for new features every 2 seconds.

RJNavarrete, what's that calendar agenda on the third screen? (also, they're overworking you)

I'm on FroydVillan and the battery life isn't that bad. do you have google backup running? that apparently takes loads of battery.

My Mrs has went back to work at a mobile phone shop. They are pushing Android and she has no clue, neither have I (we both have iPhones).

They have gave her a new Android phone to take home, check out and use to help her sell to customers.

GAF can you help? with a nice summary of how to's, must have apps (pref free as this is a temp phone) etc. for us to follow and mess around with tonight so she can be awesome at Android at work tomorrow.

Which phone is it?

I can give a little guidance on the development of things, and the rest of the people here will fill you in on the worthwhile free apps and stuff. :D

Anyone have any recs for a rooted N1? I finally did it yesterday so that I could update with the Korean radio. I did ask in the N1 thread but thought this would probably be a better place to ask as it has a wider audience.

Nope :(

Something is rather strange. It's either the screen, bluetooth or the doubleflip from gesture search. Can't put my finger on it. Still testings.

HTC Desire

Strictly speaking, you can even buy paid apps and get a refund within 24hrs. Just FYI. Also the Desire is awesome <3

Where can I get flash for my phone? I just updated to 2.2 and its not in the marketplace. Also, what app are you guys using that gives the battery life within the battery icon?
