Is 4G coverage actually good enough to consider nowdays? Kind of surprising how small the coverage is here in Finland right now.
4G anything right now is sort of a misnomer. Roll outs are happening now but widespread coverage of "4G" advertised speeds are not commonplace yet.

The phone is obviously meant to attract customer attention, and from what I saw (despite the early hour) it was working. Like moths to a flame, I watched a handful of customers walk up to the phone and start playing with it, and even the employees seemed intrigued. It probably helped that the display was right at the front of the store.

I wish Google would tell manufacturers to stick with the same Home, Menu, Back, and Search arrangement.

When I went from my N1 to G2, I kept on hitting Home when I wanted to hit Back and vice versa.

well first i would ask google to actually stick with the same arrangement. Lead by example

Has anyone else tried using Beluga? I just saw the Techcrunch article on it and I've always been looking for a group chatting program for Android and iOS.

So I guess this is going to become the default thread for hardware and software. I might as well start off by telling everyone to get this.

Jet Car Stunts just came out for Android, this game is pretty fun.

Anyone know what chip set HTC will be building there next gen phones off of? For the longest time, htc has always been with qualcomm, any word if they are jumping ship with nvidia?

I went from N1 to G2 too, took me a week to get used to the key placement. Now I can't go back to my N1 :p

Hey gaf, I just got a desire hd and it's weird. It has a column of pixels on the left third of the screen running from top to bottom. Dead pixels you say. No. It shows different parts of this column depending on the home screen and they dont show up in the picture viewer or the browser. Bug ? Or what. Help, I Don't want to send it back and wait, but I don't want a not 100% performing device, either.

??? Strange. Can you take a picture ? Definitely doesn't sound normal. Hope it's not a hardware fault. If it is a software problem you can try to put the newest HTC Stock ROM on it.

I'll post pics tomorrow or the day after. My camera is full with x-mas pics, I'll have to transfer them first. Really looking forward to sending it back :/

Ps: how to get rid of the awful auto-correct?

I just bought my first android device, Flytouch2 10" tablet with 1024*600 screen [mine model is branded as Wowpad].

So far im liking this tablet a lot, but one major problem is that i dont have MicroSD card yet and tons of programs require it. Oh well, that will be fixed soon.

Alright - looks like I'll be getting an Android phone early next year. I'll be watching CES closely, but does anybody happen to know when the dual-core phones are likely to be available? I'm leaning towards the Nexus S right now, but I'd like to hold out for a dual core phone if they're coming out sooner rather than later...

Running a Gingerbread ROM on my Incredible right now and I'm amazed at how slick it is so far. There's a lot of little UI tweaks that make Android feel a lot more consistent in design language. It's not the UI overhaul some people wanted, but it is a solid improvement. Amazingly this early ROM actually seems faster than Froyo was, which I didn't think would be noticeable. The "CRT effect" when you turn off the phone is too cool.

Was looking around, saw emulators/roms in the android marketplace for free download and started playing Chrono Trigger on my moms Droid Incredible 3 mins later... I fucking need a droid phone lol...

I'll have to wait until July though =[

so long story short my original droid phone broke and am in need of a new one. I kinda wished it didn't die till a few months later as there are new phones coming out the next couple of months...

Is there anything coming out soon that I should wait for? Otherwise how's the nexus S? is it even available on verizon?

No Nexus S on Verizon, sorry!

hey guys, i'm thinking of getting a Samsung Galaxy S, and i have some dumb or very dumb questions.

1. how is video playback? can i just drag and drop .avis and stuff and it will most likely be able to play them? if i just watch a 20min episode of a TV show, will that drain a lot of battery life?

2. does it support flash or not? there's at least an app for Youtube videos, right? can it play the HQ versions of YT videos smoothly?

3. does the nice big screen scratch easily? i fear having it in my pocket with my keys or random coins etc could ruin the screen..

4. there's apparently a NeoGAF app? how does it work, what does it do? explain like you would to a 10 year old.

5. any way to link it up with a PS3 to transfer files, either through USB or Bluetooth maybe..?

thanks in advance :P

What's the most powerful Android phone right now? I like my Xperia 10 but Rogers is pissing me off so I'm going to cancel and just buy a phone outright. I'm looking at the Nexus S(For Google updates) and the Droid X. It HAS to work in Canada though. Thanks.

Do like me and just get the Nexus S. The fact that it's pure google automatically makes it better than the rest. The hardware is better too.

edit: keep in mind the wind unlimited everything promo for 40 bucks ends on december 31st.

While I agree with your Nexus S recommendation, the fact that it's stock Android doesn't automatically make it better (being the Nexus series does though as far as updates are concerned). Skinned devices have gotten new versions before stock devices (EVO for example). Unless you're not referring to timely updates, in which case it's purely personal preference. I love Sense personally.

4G is finally coming to San Jose but I'll only be here till January 3rd. Think there's a chance the signal will spill into Santa Cruz? :(

I played this on my friends iPhone. Great game, will have to pick it up some time.

There's no WIND in SK -_-

1. Yes

2. Yes but only on 2.2 or higher. HQ is smooth

3. nope, it's mode of gorilla glass. My phone goes through fuckloads of abuse and is still flawless.

4. www.secondapps.com/neogaf

5.No idea.

Got a nook color - ran autonooter...wow this thing is freaking sweet now.

Installed ADWlauncher and a few of my fave games, along with dolphin HD browser for pinch to zoom and tabs.

Best part is that it can be exactly like stock with shelves and everything one second - then hit the N button (I bound to ADW) and bam - "full" android tablet.

Comics looking great, found a new app that takes advantage of landscape well with the NC, called perfect view.

I can't believe how easy the root and setup was and love how everything works.

Hey GAF, my original Droid has been having annoying issues with the headphone jack and the touchscreen and I was gunna go get it replaced by Verizon (got insurance on it).

It is currently rooted, how do I unroot it and remove all traces of the rooting?

Also, will they replace it with the original droid or maybe pay a bit and get a newer model or something?

Oh cool, so you can just exit out of the nook software basically and have a full android tablet? Will it get future updates like Gingerbread?

Got the San Francisco for Christmas and its pretty awesome, especially when you think of how cheap it is. The performance is good but i imagine once i get a custom ROM without the Orange crap on it, it'll be even better. Anyone else have one? I think brain_stew was going to get one.

Yes - basically you do the root and then install your own launcher (like ADW or Launcher Pro) then you can bind the "N" to your launcher so it bumps you instantly into running like a tablet (or giant phone). Autonooter also has soft buttons allowing you to access the typical android 4 buttons at any point. Works awesome actually. I just checked out a library book, so no effect on DRM epubs, etc.

As far as updates - well I'll head back over to XDA devs the next time an update comes out. People have dumped ASOP Froyo and it runs (but a bit slow, not an optimized rom).

To be honest, I don't want to give up the normal nook color interface, so I plan to wait for the official Barnes and Noble 2.2 update to come out and get hacked, then update. I like to jump over to using my own launcher, but use the Nook software for books, including checking out library books, etc.

Community is working pretty fast, I am sure they will have gingerbread working at some point - but that is likely to be a full replacement rom, turning it into a tablet without the nook software at all.
